Another "Hall of Famer" HERO has passed away. Bill Mack, the MIDNIGHT COWBOY rode on over the horizon to his Heavenly home. He will be missed!

Billy Rothfus was inducted over 20 years ago by founder Calvin Wills. She continued her support of Gospel Music in Texas for over six decades as a "singing school" singer and a local promoter of many concerts and programs. She is just one of over 100 Texas heroes in the Hall of Fame!

"Hall of Famer" Charlie Campbell passed away today. He was inducted in 2005 at the very first induction ceremony at DBU. For nearly four decades he was the friendly radio voice on KCBI FM every Sunday morning. He was a great supporter of all Christian Music everywhere. Since his college days singing in a "double quartet" (one of his favorite stories), he especially loved the sweet harmony that belonged to traditional Southern Gospel Music. Charlie was also known for his "warm Texas style" Emcee work at programs and concerts all around the North Texas area. [this photo: Rudy Gatlin, Tom Ellis, Charlie, Randy Wills]

TGMHF has posted "Scap-Iron" quartets before, and told the background (history) on that catchy name. SO - can you name the 5 members of this quartet? Four singers and one piano player? All are inductees of the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

Gary McSpadden, from Lubbock Texas, got his first quartet singing job at the age of 19 with Bob Wills and the Inspirationals. When Jory Waldon left to attend school, Gary took his place. He joined John Hall, Roger McDuff and Bob to sing with the very young and popular male quartet.

The word about Walt's Memorial Service got out - there was a full house yesterday at Moore Funeral Chapel. WALT MILLS lived a blessed life for 83 years. So many great memories were shared: his wife Betty was there, son Paul, grandson Jeremy spoke as did granddaughter April. Pastor J. Don George led the way as several others spoke in the service: W. H. Yarbrough, Dean & Mary Brown, Del Way. TGMHF Board members, Joe Willis, Randy and Cindi Wills were in attendance - as well as "Hall of Famer" John Hall.

03/07/2020

Our last post was about the one year mark since Lou went on to heaven - now another beloved Hall of Famer has joined her there. WALT MILLS passed away this week. These photos are from the Wills Family 70th Anniversary Concert in 2008. All the Wills and Mills had a special "home town" connection to Arlington. We will post memorial service details soon.

It has been one year since our own Lou Wills Hildreth passed away. She was a member of the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame, as well as, the national Gospel Music Association and Southern Gospel Music Association. She was a pioneer of the Gospel Music industry across the U.S. and all of her wonderful Wills Family still misses her.

Still going after many years of music ministry: Chris and Diane Machen were inducted into the Hall of Fame on Sept. 28 at DBU. As singers, songwriters and speakers, they are staying busy sharing their amazing talent. Look them up at: mastersmusic.com

Congratulations to ROD TREME! He was inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame with the Calvin Wills "Quartet Man" Award. He sang Gospel Music for over four decades winning numerous awards through the years with the quartet (in this photo) Paul's Journey. Board member, Darrell Bledsoe is also pictured after sharing some special memories about Rod and his family.

A special event: JOE WILLIS was inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame. His wife, Irene, and most of his children and grandchildren were there. Joe's career as an owner and manager of Christian Radio stations and promoter of Gospel Music is only part of what makes him so loved and appreciated by so many. He served on the Board of Directors for the TGMHF - pictured with him are board members: Larry, Cindi, Darrell, Liz Ben, Randy (tgmhf.org)

Jane Robin Ellis passes away at the age of 101. The only TGMHF Inductee to have a school named in her honor. She supported everything about Gospel Music in all of North Texas - especially some of the Wills Family that were in her award-winning Arlington high School choir!

This week will be 3 months since our dearest Lou went to her heavenly home. We have so many great photos and memories. Here she is 5 years ago with Guy after he was inducted and Jim Brady the year before he was inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame!

03/01/2019

Sad day for our TGMHF fans. Executive Director and Co-founder Lou Wills Hildreth moved to her new address in Gloryland today: February 28, 2019. She was an amazing inspiration to Gospel Music lovers all across the country - not just in Texas! She was our connection to Mr. Gaither and she is the one to remind us that our organization must carry on the heritage of our Christian music in the great Lone Star State!!

01/29/2019

Our founder and first President, Calvin Wills, knew ALL the great Gospel singers. Do you recognize this man? (just a test to get some FaceBook comments - thanks)

12/07/2018

Another TGMHF Inductee has gone on home to heaven: Les Beasley. He was a native Texan, always supportive of the work here, even though he spent most of his long career in Florida. Some of our Texas Team (Liz, Gayla) where able to attend his memorial service - he will be missed.

10/12/2018

TGMHF Hall of Famers get promoted to their heavenly home. On August 20 a beloved member of the Wills Family, Lillie Wills, passed away just three weeks before her 90th birthday. More recently an original member of the Galileans, Paul Delatorre crossed over after a brief illness. He and his wife Anita have lived in Tyler the past several years. Texas Music heroes that will be missed!

08/22/2018

TGMHF Inductee as part of the First Family of Gospel Music in Texas, Lillie Wills, has passed on to her heavenly home. The Singing Wills Family (1938-1998) added Calvin's wife, Lillie to the group in the early 1960's - so many fans loved her sweet soprano voice and fun, outgoing spirit! She will be missed.

05/24/2018

In 2011 Jack Taylor was inducted - he turns 90 years old this year. He was actually included in both Induction Concerts: 2011 with Guy Penrod and 2015 with Jim Brady. https://youtu.be/kPTavDtuW-c

10 years ago Marie Ellis was inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame at the SGMA of Texas Convention. In this photo with Marie are Lou Hildreth and Randy Wills. Her commitment to Gospel Music and her husband Tom Ellis became a much deserved legacy to everyone who knew her.
Three weeks ago on December 12, Marie was called home to join Tom and Calvin and so many other Gospel Music heroes in that heavenly choir! Read more about Tom and Marie on our website: tgmhf.org

Wayne Christian, The Singing Christians, The Mercy River Boys and ALL of the talented Texans who made up those groups were inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2015. Here's a collectable photo with inductees: Lou Hildreth and Bob Wills from the 1970s.

10/07/2017

TGMHF Quiz! Our previous POST showed Board member Rudy Gatlin singing with Bob Wills in a "Scrap Iron" Qt. just a few weeks ago. He also sang along with Bob over 20 years ago with these other two well-known Gospel Singers: who are they?

09/27/2017

Fabulous! Now here is a great "Scrap Iron" Quartet put together for the Stamps Building Tribute. Ralph Green, Bob Wills, Rudy Gatlin and Big John Hall. Randy Wills at the piano.
