The theme of the Conference: T.G.I.F.: Today God is First (Matthew 6:33)
The Stephen Gill Spottswood Order of the Chancel Ministry, the Acolytes of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church is inviting all young people, directors, non-clergy, clergy, pastors, priest, Presiding Elders, Vigers, and Bishops throughout the body of Christ to participate in the 1st Annual Virtual Acolyte Conference.
This exciting virtual conference will focus on “Strengthening our Fellowship” through our three pillars which are leadership, discipleship, and service, from the perspective of the COVID-19 pandemic, racial inequities, and mental illness.
We are praying you will support and participate. God Bless you all
Please help. If you recognize this church would you let me know? My mom and dad were married there in 1942 but don't know the name or town, except that it's probably near Fort Bragg.

Many thanks! Flo
If St. Ann Cathlic Church wants to celebrate something worthwhile, try the Montford Point Marines. And we are blessed with one our midst, in the form of Mr. Cosmas Eaglin, nearing his 106th birthday. He was awarded the Gold Congressional Medal of Honor, along with his fellow Montfort Point Marines.

Please look these Marines up and find out what they endured to become and remain Marines. This is history in OUR times!
Doodling in my morning thoughts and prayers today!
Are there any marriage retreats coming up anytime soon? (Not virtual ones)
It was very uplifting returning to church last weekend. Welcome and thanks to Fr Mike for coming to St. Ann as our new pastor. I look forward to attending Mass and experiencing the joy of seeing old friends -- even as we practice safe distancing. Pat Stewart
My name is Nickolas Sifuentes and I am a Scout in Troop 711). Due to the COVID-19 virus, I am unable to earn my way to camp and other great Scouting adventures by selling a camp card. What I can do is invite you to purchase camp cards that will be given as a "Thank You" to our local "

Front Line Heroes", the essential workers in our community. For every $5 donated to "Front Line Heroes", a discount card or "camp card," will be given to an essential worker in the county my unit resides in. $2.50 of every $5 donated will also go to my local Scout unit to help me attend camp and go on other Scouting adventures!

The card pays for itself and is a great way to help essential workers save money and show them we care! Featured discounts on the card include:

$5 off a purchase of $75 or more at Harris Teeter $10 off a purchase of $50 or more at Dicks Sporting Goods$2 off a haircut at Supercuts$5 off a purchase of $50 or more at Apex Outfitters (Wake and Durham Cards)

You can order online at

https://grow.ocscouts.org/give/289037/#!/donation/checkout

Make sure to enter (Unit & Number) and my (name) in the comments section to help support my local Scout unit too!

Together, we can give back to those who give to us selflessly every day. I hope I can count on your support.

Sincerely,

Nickolas Sifuentes

PRAYER DURING CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

O clement, O loving, O sweet Mother Mary,
We, your children of every nation,
Turn to you in this pandemic.
Our troubles are numerous; our fears are great.
Grant that we might deposit them at your feet,
Take refuge in your Immaculate Heart,
And obtain peace, healing, rescue,
And timely help in all our needs.
You are our Mother.
Pray for us to your Son.
Amen.

Critical race theory and Catholicism go hand in hand
The Bible says truth matters. Critical race theory is a truth-seeking tool.

PATRICK SAINT-JEAN, S.J. Published July 20, 2021
Recently, during breakfast with a good friend, the conversation suddenly became tense when I made a comment about critical race theory (CRT). My friend felt strongly that CRT has no place in the Catholic Church; I disagreed. She went on to say that Catholics who support this theory should be officially sanctioned. I respect my long-time friend’s opinion—she is a theology professor at a prestigious Catholic university—but I could not agree. I insisted that CRT intersects easily with Catholic social teaching; in fact, CRT shines light on our journey as followers of Christ. At this, my friend pushed back her chair and left the table without even a goodbye. I stared after her in disbelief.

The City flag outside City Hall is at half-staff to commemorate the life of Council Member William Joseph Leon Crisp. Mayor Mitch Colvin issued the declaration to lower the flag this morning. Crisp, known as “Bill”, passed away yesterday at age 81. Crisp was first elected to the Fayetteville City Council as representative for District 6 on November 6, 2007. Crisp served six consecutive terms and became affectionately known as the “Dean” of the City Council.

Crisp recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the “Bill Crisp Senior Center” in West Fayetteville. The Senior Center construction is in progress beside 7572 Raeford Road.

“We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of former Councilman Bill Crisp,” Mayor Mitch Colvin said. “He was a true role model and a servant to his country and his community. Mr. Crisp was a U.S. Army Veteran who protected our freedoms both here and abroad. He was a true example of a servant leader. I would like the story of his impact on my life and the lives of others to be a story that’s shared throughout our community forever.”

The City flag will remain lowered through Friday at 5 p.m.

The 24-year old gymnast, who has broken world record after world record, has been open about the role her faith has played in her life.
Simone Biles made history in 2016 by breaking the world record for medals earned by a gymnast. In winning the 24th medal of her career, a gold on the balance beam, the then-22-year-old Biles surpassed Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo’s record of 23 medals, which he has held since 1996.

Parishes got more tech-savvy during the pandemic and it led to connected communities of faith.

As #COVID19 cases rose rapidly in March 2020, dioceses around the United States responded by closing church doors to keep their communities safe. For many Catholics, the lack of in-person access to the sacraments was a particularly painful aspect of the lockdowns. Rachael Harvey, pastoral assistant for youth and young adult ministry at Sacred Heart Church in Enumclaw, Washington, remembers the sense of longing she felt after Masses were cancelled.

Catholics clicked with online ministry. Will we keep it up? Many parishes have utilized technology in new ways during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some practices are worth keeping around even as in person worship returns.
