[03/02/14]   A Moment in Haymount Presbyterian Church History

An excerpt from the July 29th 1902 Wilmington Messenger

FAYETTEVILLE NEWSLETTER. Interesting: Church Services Prominent People Coming and Going;. (Correspondence of The Messenger) Fayetteville, N. C, July 28. Children's Day was observed yesterday afternoon with interesting exercises at the beautiful colored Presbyterian church at the foot of Haymount, of which Rev. S. P. Smith is pastor. The training of the children reflected great credit on Annie McNeill, the bright daughter of Richard McNeill, by whom they were conducted, and fine music was given with the organ and cornet by Alice Henderson and D. B. Bell. The address was delivered by Rev. H. T. Graham, of the First Presbyterian church of this city, which was a masterly effort, and the collection amounted to over $16.00. Rev. Mr. Thrusdon, of Indiana, who is spending the summer here for his health, assisted Rev. H. T. Graham yesterday in the services at the Presbyterian church. A striking feature of the exercises was a magnificent instrumental duet, with Mrs. W. G. Hall at the organ, and Miss Kate McNeill, of Stanton, Va., with the violin.
