EVENT- Following Women’s Bible Breakfast, we’ll have Flower Fun with Margi. You are welcome to join us- from ~11:30-12:30. Bring your vase (8-10 inches tall X 4 inches wide) and a pair of SNIPS. If you have flowers or greens from your garden that you’d be willing to share, please bring them. Stem lengths of 12-25 inches are ideal. When we are done, you’ll have a beautiful bouquet to take home.
Pentecost: 40 days after Easter, we hang red Paraments and side banners in celebration of the Holy Spirit descending upon Christ’s disciples. It is a time for Confirmation and remembering our Baptism.

Preparing the arrangements for the Sunday’s Altar, Red Asiatic Lilies and Alstromeria were chosen, complemented by daisies from the Tucker’s garden.
Learning curve- Dogwood prefers to stay on the tree. This, the Redtip and the Wisteria were harvested from Neighborhood sources.
Soon after our Florist closed for the COVID-19 foreseeable future, the Altar flowers became a volunteer task.
This is the home concert from my High School. St Pauls Lutheran High School, Concordia, MO. Something very uplifting to listen to right now. Please enjoy.

Former congregant (I visited there with my kids years ago before we moved out of state) offers story, asks support:

Trinity IV
Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear.

Our nation seems to be in trouble. There no longer remains intelligent or thoughtful debate over issues, but rather violence and accusation. These things do not matter. Keep in mind the words from Luther: “Take they our life, goods, fame, child and wife; though these all be gone, the victory has been won. The Kingdom ours remaineth.”

Pentecost Sunday
God shall arise; His enemies will be scattered.

God has risen on Easter Sunday. The resurrection of Jesus places the seal of approval from the Father on the Son’s death for the world. Today, with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit the entire force of Satan is scattered. As Luther teaches, “He’s judged. The deed is done.”

Exaudi Sunday
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your steadfast love.

Luther writes in his Small Catechism that “we daily sin much and indeed deserve nothing but punishment” (5th Petition). The “we” does not merely refer to you and I as Christians, but all of mankind. We are linked by way of flesh and blood. It is only through the flesh and blood of Jesus that we can pray for the mercy of the Father to be placed on all of humanity.

Come and see what God has done.

When two disciples of John the Baptizer follow behind Jesus and ask Him where He is remaining Jesus says, Come and see.” When Philip tells Nathanael about the Messiah he says, “Come and see.” So, the invitation to you all to ‘Come and see” what God has done – laying upon this altar for you.

Cantate Sunday
Oh, sing unto the Lord a new song.

Proponents of contemporary worship might point to Ps 98 above as advocacy. “Every Sunday is a new Sunday. Every Sunday deserves a new song.” Well, not quite. The new song that we sing is not a matter of novelty or innovation, but rather one of substance. That is to say, the new song is one of atonement and resurrection.

Jubilate Sunday
St. Mark

Mark is an interesting study. Once he ran away from Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. Once he ran away from Paul while on a missionary journey. Yet he becomes the writer of our second Gospel. Maybe more than all of the biblical heroes, Mark most parallels us. We fall away from God, yet are drawn back to Him through contrition and repentance.

Holy Week—the Greatest Week Indeed! - International Lutheran Council by Timothy Quill If professional pollsters had existed on Palm Sunday, they would have been shamed out of business in less than a week due to totally erroneous predictions about Jesus’ popularity among the people and His political prospects. Death Has Been Swallowed up in Victory!

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Holy Week greetings to you in the name of our crucified and risen Savior!

This week we mark Christ’s journey from triumphal entry, to the upper room, to the garden and to the Cross. It is a solemn week in the life of God’s people. But even as we come yet again to the Cross, we do so knowing how the story ends. We look forward to Sunday’s Easter celebration of life overcoming death.

This Easter comes at the end of an eventful year in the life of God’s people and our world. It seems almost surreal that only a year ago many of us held worship in nearly empty sanctuaries, with God’s people able to gather only at a physical or technological distance. As we begin to approach normalcy, we do so with a number of emotions. We mourn the absence of those who have died, but rejoice as they even now enjoy the immediate presence of the resurrected Jesus. We celebrate those who have worked hard and sacrificed much to provide for those in need of body, mind, or spirit. We give thanks for the technology that has enabled so much this past year and, at the same time, we weary of the virtual interactions and physical distancing. We long for the day when God’s people can again gather close together—in our homes, at social gatherings, and, most importantly, as the whole family of God gathered in our churches around Word, font, and table.

The coming weeks and months will, yet again, bring with them great changes and challenges for the Church. Easter is, above all, a season of renewal and resurrection. We pray for the return of absent friends, and we look forward to the restoration of our unity as God’s people gathered in this place and time. We pray for our pastors as they continue to provide God’s gifts of Word and Sacrament to His people. We pray for all who serve in the Church to be strengthened as they care for the needs of God’s people. And we pray for those who do not yet know the sure and certain hope we have in Christ our Savior.

May the Easter “alleluias” this year be louder and sweeter than ever. As Isaiah promised, “He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken” (Isaiah 25:8 ESV).

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

Easter Sunday

Now all the vault of heaven resounds

Alleluia!

Palmarum Sunday
I will tell of Your name to My brothers;
In the midst of the congregation I will praise You.

Where Jesus is praised, there is the Father and Spirit. This is nothing new. However, did you know that in the same assembly of the congregation (Jesus’ brothers), Jesus Himself praises you to the Father? Why would we not gather together?

Lent IV
Laetare Sunday

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”

Where God has placed His name, that is where His presence is. Where God has placed His presence, that is where His throne is. Where has placed His throne, that is where heaven is. Gathering together as a community of saints here means to gather about God’s throne, His presence, His name, and heaven.

Oculi Sunday
My eyes are ever on the Lord,
for He will pluck my feet out of the net.

St. Luke writes that Jesus “resolutely set His eyes on Jerusalem,” – the city that kills those set to her. This is why the Father sends Jesus there. Lent is the season of many things. For this Sunday it instructs us to keep our eyes upon Jesus as He heads for Jerusalem to die for you.

Reminiscere Sunday

Make me to know Your ways, O Lord, and teach me Your paths.
The world is a fascinating place. Just when one aspect of life is defined the world changes the definitions. Be assured that the world will change its mind again. As Christians we look to the Father for objective definitions of life and how to live. These never change, for He never changes.

Septuagesima Sunday

From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears.

Ask anyone where heaven is and they will immediately point up to the sky. Actually, heaven is overlaid upon the earth; specifically, at the altar. At Solomon’s dedication of the temple he prays that God would “hear in heaven,” that is, the place of His dwelling – and through the divine liturgy God answers you.

Transfiguration Sunday
How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts.

Peter suggests to stay with Jesus, Moses, and Elijah on the mount of transfiguration, volunteering to build shelters. Dwelling with such Old Testament giants must have been, at least, a lovely site. What Peter, as well as the rest of us, doesn’t realize is that the dwelling place for the Lord of hosts is Calvary. How much more lovely can it get?
