2 Kings 2:1-14

Dear Crossroads Church, A number of years ago a colleague of mine mentioned something about Jesus' ministry that’s always stuck with me. As he was describing Jesus' ascension to be with the Father after resurrection my colleague said, “The gospel is always on the move.” He went on to point out that the life of Jesus is never static; it is always fluid. And if we look at Jesus’ life and ministry and at the early church, we see it is always on the move. Always moving forward; always seeking to hear what God is saying and responding as faithfully as possible.

Back in 2007, Amanda and I were sure that we would return to West Virginia after my time in Divinity school at Duke University. When our plan transitioned to moving to Fayetteville, North Carolina, to plant a new church, we were as shocked as anyone. The last 13 years have been an amazing time for us and our family. God has brought people into our lives, like each of you, that has created a depth to our lives we could have never imagined. We have learned so much about what it means to be the church and to make church more like family.

Along the way, we’ve also learned from living in Fayetteville that people are always on the move here and we often have had to say goodbye to dear friends as they were taking next steps in their lives. We also have had several moments where we’ve had to discern if it was time for us to move on to God’s next thing for our family. Up until now, we never felt like it was time to take our next step. Over the past six months God has been speaking to Amanda and I in ways that we haven’t heard him since 2006 and 2007. We’ve been hearing a call from God to take our next step for our family.

We have decided to step away from pastoral ministry and to free up our flexibility on the weekends to be present with our children in ways that we are unable to do if pastoring a church. We will be moving back to West Virginia and starting a new journey there. We are excited about this next step in our life. And at the same time, we are very sad to leave the people known as Crossroads Church that we love so much. Every week we have asked one set of questions to the people of Crossroads, “What is God saying to you?” and “What are you going to do about it?” That is what Amanda and I are doing our best to do right now. We need and appreciate your thoughts and prayers for us as we make this transition. I will be preaching on Sunday mornings for most of May and look forward to sharing with all of you our hopes, thank you’s, & highs and lows as we prepare to take this next step forward in our lives.

We also are excited about the next steps for Crossroads. It is amazing to think that Kyle — along with Lauren — who started coming to Crossroads in the early days, and after accepting a call to ministry, attending Duke Divinity School, and in some miraculous way being able to come back to launch Crossroads North, is now taking the reins as lead pastor of the Crossroads Church movement. Kyle and the Lead Team will have lots to share in the coming weeks with all of you.

As we plan for our new life, Amanda and I hope to find a small glimpse of a Gospel-centered community in West Virginia like the one that all of you, through God‘s grace, have created here in Fayetteville.

We love you with the love of the Lord,
Chad Pullins

John 20:19-23

Easter was just the beginning. At the end of Jesus’ embodied ministry 2,000 years ago, we see an astonishing transition. In three movements, God’s power was on full display. In the Resurrection, the Ascension, and Pentecost, the authority and power of Jesus is entrusted to the church as they continue to engage in the work that Jesus began.

The Christian faith prepares us for transitions and new beginnings. Explore The Transition with Crossroads Church tomorrow here on Facebook Live at 10am!

General information

The Vision of Crossroads is to "Reclaim our city by establishing Gospel Families." We know that the work of Jesus was to restore hope and wholeness to our broken lives. Scripture and experience both teach us that lasting growth happens in the context of small groups. We call these groups Gospel Families and we believe that God will use these groups to restore life and hope to our city.
