Disaster Food and Nutrition benefits applications will be taken at the DSS building at 1225 Ramsey Street beginning Friday, Sept. 28, through Saturday, Sept. 29, and Monday, Oct. 1, through Saturday, Oct. 6. Hours will be from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day. No applications will be taken on Sunday.

Cumberland County has been declared a disaster county by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. These declarations authorize the Department of Social Services to administer the Disaster Food and Nutrition benefits program.

This program is designed to authorize food stamp benefits for eligible households that are not currently receiving food and nutrition benefits and have experienced a loss as a result of Hurricane Florence. Residents may qualify for assistance for a one-month period if their home was damaged or destroyed or they have disaster related expenses, or they lost income or had food loss because of a power outage or household flooding resulting from Hurricane Florence. Eligibility is based on available income and resources.

Residents currently receiving food stamp benefits, including those requesting replacement benefits, are not eligible for this disaster program.

Applications for Disaster Food and Nutrition benefits will be taken at the DSS building at 1225 Ramsey Street beginning Friday, Sept. 28, through Saturday, Sept. 29, andMonday, Oct. 1, through Saturday, Oct. 6. Hours will be from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day. No applications will be taken on Sunday.

Applications for residents who are age 60 and older and any individuals who are disabled with mobility issues will be taken at St. Luke AME Church located at 522 Hillsboro Street, Fayetteville. The days and hours will be the same as the DSS location: Friday, Sept. 28 - Saturday, Sept. 29; and Monday, Oct. 1 - Saturday, Oct. 6 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Individuals applying at both locations will be asked to provide verification of identity. This will not have to be picture identification; any document that shows their name, such as a utility or other bill, will be accepted.

Because long lines and wait times are possible, individuals are encouraged to bring medications and other necessary items. Due to limited space, individuals are encouraged to limit the number of people accompanying them and to consider arranging child care if possible. Residents should come prepared for inclement weather while waiting outdoors as no outdoor shelter is available for those waiting in line.

No food vendors will be allowed in the parking lots at application locations. In addition, no donations will be accepted or distributed at application locations.

Due to the possibility of large numbers of applicants, neighboring residents and businesses should expect heavy traffic and parking in the area.

[06/07/17]   Good morning!

"In their hearts humans plan their course but the LORD determines their steps."
Proverbs 16:9

"Stay In Sync"
Have you ever tried something and got the results you wanted and then tried the same thing again and got different results? This happened to Moses in the Bible. The Israelites needed water in the desert and God told Moses to strike the rock. He struck the rock and water flowed out freely. Another time they needed water again and God told Moses, “Speak to the rock.” Do you know what Moses did? He went over and struck the rock. Moses thought, “Hey, it worked last time, it’ll work this time.” But it didn’t because God had a different plan.

The point is that we have to stay open and make adjustments to stay in tune with God’s plan. You can do the same thing the same way you did last time and get different results. It may not be something major but like Moses, maybe it’s just something small. Sometimes a small tweak or adjustment can make a major difference in the outcome.

Today, make sure you aren’t doing things just because it’s the way you always did it before. Instead, listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit of God inside. Follow His leading and stay in sync with the wonderful plan the Lord has for you!

Prayer For Today:
"Heavenly Father, I submit my mind, will, and heart to You. Help me to see clearly what Your plan is for me. Help me to stay close to You always, not living in the past, but pressing forward to the new things You have in store for me in Jesus’ name. Amen."

God bless

[02/23/17]   Good morning!

"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."
Romans 12:12

"Be Joyful In Hope"
God has given you everything you need in order to enjoy your life. Think about that for a minute. What is keeping you from living life to the full? You may not be in the home you want. You may not have the exact job you would like. Maybe you’re single and really want to be married. If you focus on these temporary things, it opens the door to comparison and frustration.

It’s good to have big dreams. It’s good to want to increase. But if you start comparing yourself to others, it will steal your joy. If you don’t learn to be positive & filled with God's joy where you are, you’ll never get to where you want to be. But if you’ll choose to be positive, refuse self-pity and refuse to complain, then you are sowing good seeds for God to take you where you want to be in your future.

Today, realize that God is directing your steps. You have a future and a hope. Take joy in knowing that He is working all things together for your good according to His divine plan. Stay in faith, focus on Him and obey His commands. Soon, you’ll see those new doors open so you can walk boldly into the place of blessing God has in store for you!

Prayer ForToday:
Father, today I choose to put my hope and trust in You. I know that You are working all things together for my good. I refuse self-pity. I refuse to compare. I choose joy and the divine plan You have prepared for me in Jesus’ name! Amen.

God bless

[01/18/17]   Good Afternoon!

"So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."
Luke 11:9

"Look For God's Favor"
When you go about your day, are you looking for God’s favor? Do you expect His goodness to overflow? Many people wake up and just believe to make it through the day, but God has so much more in store for you. What He has laid out for your future is more than you can imagine! What He’s got arranged for your family is more than you’ve ever even dreamed of. I believe that if you will take hold of this truth by faith, you will see supernatural doors begin to open. You’ll see promotion like you haven’t seen before!

No matter where you are in life, no matter what’s happening around you, start looking for more of God’s favor. Don’t settle for where you are. Don’t settle for just barely getting by. Believe that God is good, and He wants to do more in and through you. Remember, what you seek, you will find. So seek Him first, and He will pour out His supernatural favor on you!

Prayer For Today:
"Heavenly Father, today I lift my eyes to You for You are the source of my help. I believe that You have good things in store for me, and so I look for Your favor on my life. Use me today for Your glory as I keep my heart and mind stayed on You in Jesus’ name. Amen."

God bless
