~Too Busy For God~
“Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” ’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.””
(Luke 12:16-21 )
It’s very possible everyone gave this rich farmer raving reviews in his community. He may have been a good husband, dad, provider, entrepreneur, one to gain insight from on how to build new barns, and so on. Many may have called him a very wise man; but not God. God called him a fool!
He was rich in the world but bankrupt toward God. He was too busy for God.
“What profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?”(Lk 9:25).
Are you too busy for God?
Life happens my friend, and it happens quicker than we thought. And being busy is the way of life for many. But busyness without godliness defines a “fool” in God’s book.
Put the Lord Jesus first and He’ll direct your ‘busyness’ (see Prov.3:5ff).
Father, we ask that You awaken some busy one today before it’s too late, in Jesus’s Name, Amen.
Wednesday Night Service
~Christ Who Strengthens Me~
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
(Philippians 4:13 )
Phillips Brooks wrote, “O, do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men! Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks! Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle. But you shall be a miracle. Every day you shall wonder at yourself, at the richness of life which has come in you by the grace of God”.
God’s grace is sufficient in times of much and in times of little, for the Lord empowers us to live in both.
What Paul is telling us by the way of God’s word, is that we learn that Christ Himself is our significance and sufficiency.
And God cares!
Call upon Him today for all your needs. He loves His children perfectly.
Paul had a flourishing faith that was fueled by the Lord Jesus in all circumstances.
“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen”(Phil.4:19,20).
Today we had our Young at Heart meeting at Church. We play Bible Trivia and had Devotion time. We ate a light lunch, Hawaiian Rolls, Ham, Chicken Salad, Pimento Cheese, Chips, Cake, Cookies, Punch & Tea.
Thanks to all 19 that attended. It was great fellowship. GOD IS GOOD!
Sunday Bible Study
We begin a new series this week in the book of Genesis. We will be looking at Abraham and learning better how to better follow the Lord in obedience as we experience Him greater as we do.
We want to know Him better as Paul said in Philippians 3:10.
A Six Week Series: Walking in Confidence.
The Basis for Confidence
Scripture: Genesis 12:1-8
The Point: Confidence Comes from Trusting God.
1. God Calls Us to Follow Him (1-3)
2. We Are to Respond to God with Obedience (4-6)
3. A Relationship of Trust Leads Us to Worship (7-8).
There are 3 Apps at the end of study:
We will fill in the form tonight and Sunday, Lord willing!
~Yes He Is~
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.”
(Psalms 23:1-6 ).
So many times people requests the 23rd Psalm be read at their funeral, and that’s good.
But I want to draw attention to the first three words of this Psalm: “The LORD is...”. David did not write this after he died. Note he said “The LORD is; not the LORD “was”!
The LORD is present tense; the Lord is now my shepherd!
He is now my God; my Gracious Giver, my Guide, my Governor, my Guard, my Grace, my Goodness, and my Guarantee.
The 23rd is the testimony of the sheep that belongs to the Good Shepherd.
Is this your testimony today?
Bless His Holy Name today!
~Pathway to Joy~
“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”
(Isaiah 26:3 ).
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
(John 14:27 )
““These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”
(John 15:11 ).
“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus...”
(Philippians 2:5 ).
“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”
(Philippians 4:4-9 ).
I don’t know what might be heavy on your heart and mind today, but God does. And He sends His word to you.
He is “...the God of peace...” who gives peace to those who turn to Him for peace. Follow His pathway today in Jesus and meditate on His word!
Bless His Holy Name!
Today is Day 11 in “On Mission Together”, 30 Day Prayer Guide.
Take time to read and pray.
Thank you MHBC for all your kind words of encouragement today on Pastor Appreciation Day. Amy and I greatly appreciate your faithfulness and kindness. Thanks so much for encouraging gifts of love.
The Lord has been gracious to us. We pray the Lord will be exalted in these days and many will come to the Lord.
Also thanks to our CARE/PRAYER Ministry group tonight. Many cards where written, and prayer visits were made.
Let me encourage all of us to keep up with the contacts and invites, you are making a difference.
Sunday Morning Service
“I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. And I urge you also, true companion, help these women who labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life.”
(Philippians 4:2-3 ).
Are you a “companion” in the Lord’s ministry?
This unnamed partner had his name in the “Book of Life” (3).
But he was a partner with Paul in the same spiritual yoke working in the Lord’s field.
Let me ask each one: Are you a “true companion” in Christ’s work, in His field?
Maybe you’re a Euodia or Syntyche in need of being urged to have the same mind. Maybe you’re the unnamed one to help the ladies get there. Or maybe a “Clement” who we know nothing of other than he labored with Paul. Or maybe you’re one of “the rest of my fellow workers” who were also laboring.
Friends, our local churches greatly depend on you the individual who may feel unnamed. God knows your name, for He has your name written in His “Book of Life”.
Let me encourage us all to get back in that classroom with that one or two kiddos; or adults; or get back to seeking the lost and the fallen away ones.
Paul suffered greatly in the prison at Philippi for the sake of Christ and His church.
Let’s shake off that dust of despondency and despair and tighten up the harnesses of His yoke for His glory and good of His local church as we reach people for His glory!
May God be Glorified!
[10/08/21] Would y’all join me today in praying for the healing of our nephew David Dyson, in Jesus’s Mighty Name, Amen.
PRAYER MINISTRY TEAMS
The C.A.R.E. Teams meet Sunday eve at 5:30.
Prayer Teams we’ll have much to pray about and for.
There are many who need an encouraging word or visit.
Looking forward to our joining the Lord in what He is doing in the lives of others as well as your life.
May God be glorified in our all...
Got your 30 Day Prayer Guide?
Got your 30 Day Prayer Guide?
Heyo Y’all, hope you’re kicking high tonight. I’ve noticed a good many prayer request today and tonight.
It is increasingly evident in these days that prayer is our great need and ministry.
God is calling us to join Him in what He is doing in the life of others and the world today.
What a fellowship! What a joy divine to be partners with God in His eternal purposes!
There is no greater calling!
The local church is God’s plan today for this world. And each born again child of God is be a part of a local fellowship.
Do we allow attitudes and personality differences to limit God’s work at MHBC?
Remember those who sat with Jesus at His table on the night He was betrayed were as different as night and day in some ways. But God was greater than their differences.
We are to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God that He may exalt us in due time!
The needs are great my friends, and God has called and equipped us for such a time as this. You are it, you’ve been tagged by God!
~Chosen in Christ~
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.”
(Ephesians 1:3-6 )
I love the Book of Ephesians, for it is as someone has said, “so deep it can drown a theological giraffe and yet shallow enough for a child to wade in”.
Paul praises God who has so greatly and richly blessed us in Christ Jesus our Lord!
God so loved us that He chose us in Christ before He ever created the world (4); and positioned us before Himself in Christ blameless (4). This speaks of the imputed perfect righteousness of Christ that God has declared for those whom He has saved. Although we had nothing to offer but our sin (Rom3:23); God declared us right with Him in His Son.
But notice His choice of us was before creation (4), telling us that God’s choice was not motivated by human influence or merit (“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (2:8,9)).
Many get a case of “spiritual hiccups” here because they can’t wrap their minds around the greatness of God! Friend, if we can explain God, then I guess we’d be God! But we are not and never will be.
I join Paul in saying, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ...”
Heyo Y’all, we’ve got a few special opportunities upon us in October.

~Someone is Waiting for
Us at the Foot of
“When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a l***r came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.””
(Matthew 8:1-4 ).
Jesus had just completed teaching the Sermon on the Mount (5-7) on the mountain. And having finished He comes down and there are multitudes awaiting His return.
Here’s a great ministry picture for each of us. It’s always good and necessary to spend time at the feet of Jesus in His word daily (privately) and weekly (Bodily ), but we just as necessarily must move out to the people Jesus called in His parable the people in the ‘Highways and hedges’. This l***r was an outcast so to speak. He represents many today who stand in need of hearing and experiencing the healing touch of Jesus.
So let’s guard against being “hearers of the word only, but be doers of the word” as God’s Spirit says in James 1:22.
Who comes to your mind today who needs to hear God’s good news of Christ? Will you take a step toward them and pray for them as you do?
May God be glorified in each one today, in Jesus’s Glorious Name, Amen.
Bible Study. Session 6
Sure of Salvation
1 John 5:1-5,11-13,18-21
The Point: We can be sure God saves us when we trust in Christ.
1. We can know we are born of God because Jesus is the Christ ( 5:1-5)
2. We can know we have Eternal Life because God’s Word says so (5:11-13).
3. We can know we are saved because our live have changed (5:-8-21).
