Mision Peniel

Two years ago on August 15th, Cultivate Abundance began the transformational work in the backyard space of Misión Peniel. With the help of local and nearby community friends, along with grant resources, this vision became reality! Today, this flourishing garden continues to provide nutritious and culturally appealing food for the farmworker community in Immokalee! Thank you, Rick and Ellen Burnette, for your dedication and commitment to creating a more sustainable way to provide much needed food sources directly to those in need! We will be featuring this tremendous work in the next issue of our newsletter. Visit our website to subscribe: www.misionpeniel.com

Please pray for those affected by this terrible storm. CPC members Spencer Marty Stigall are from Cedar Rapids, which was devastated by the derecho.

Please also pray for their former church, FPC Cedar Rapids.

PDA is virtually deploying National Response Team members to the Presbyteries of North Central Iowa, Des Moines, Prospect Hill and East Iowa following the derecho storm earlier this week. We are working with the presbyteries to assess the needs. To support this response, gifts can be designated to DR000015. bit.ly/DR000015

Mision Peniel

"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."
—Leo Buscaglia
I was inspired to share this quote as a prelude to this weekend’s post because of what we received just before we began serving. “Ella”, a high school sophomore in Naples, has filled her summer by learning to sew. Her first project: face masks for those in need. What began as a way to use her time creatively with a sense of purpose, Ella began sewing masks for family and friends as gifts and then as a way to earn some money (to fund the purchase of more supplies). A few turned into hundreds and on Friday she delivered her most recent efforts of 400 masks to the mission in hopes others would be able to use them. It was evident by smiles and words of appreciation, that each was a cherished gift! Over the months of this pandemic, we have received a number of sewn with love face masks that have gone out the door almost as fast as they have been received. For Ella and all those individuals and groups who have helped the farmworker community to control the spread of COVID -19. THANK YOU, MUCHAS GRACIAS and MÈSI! Your acts of kindness have meant so much to all who have received them!
We give God thanks for the many expressions of compassion and support that have sustained the work of the mission throughout this pandemic. Let us never tire of affirming, we are truly IN THIS TOGETHER! May we look for ways to carry God’s blessings of love and compassion in the days and weeks ahead!

We will celebrate the Lord’s Supper during worship on August 2. You may want to have bread and cup ready, so that you can participate during the service. (You don’t have to have grape juice; any beverage will be fine). Or you may simply hold the elements in your heart, instead of your hands.

Worship with us ONLINE tomorrow!
We are TOGETHER IN SPIRIT, if not in person.

Worship service will be posted on the church website in the morning.

Choose your own parable — Christian education at home

pres-outlook.org When I was younger, I was enamored with choose-your-own-adventure books.
