What a blessing to be able to share a beautiful assortment of fruit and vegetables along with non-perishables week after week on Fridays! Once again we give thanks to our food bank, Cultivate Abundance garden partners, church contributions and additional SW Florida community partners who make it possible for us to distribute nutritious food each week. This week we were able to serve 512 community friends! Pastor Miguel and his 🤎 potato reminded us all of God’s call to love with all our heart and to serve others in our midst with great compassion. Special thanks to our “COVID Response Team” who keep showing up for Friday distribution! We also give thanks to all who continue to lift the work of the mission up in prayer, those who help load the food, make masks and for those who have shared financial gifts. God’s abundant blessings lead us forward!
We stay at home now,
so that when we gather again,
no one is missing.
Cute idea as a project for kids—-of all ages!

Thank you so much to Carol and the others at Dollar General! They called and said they wanted to donate a few cases of toilet paper for our clients. Imagine our surprise and delight when we got there for pick up and there were so many items donated that we had to call friends to bring a truck. Besides toilet paper, Meals on Wheels got toothpaste, body and hand soap, lotions, shampoo, laundry detergent, dishwashing soap, disinfectant sprays, cases of chips, and so much more! Thank you Dollar General!

"Go out into the world today and love the people you meet. Let your presence light new light in the hearts of people." --Mother Teresa
Today’s “Peniel light” brought to you by families receiving ice cream treats on a hot afternoon, people expressing concern for the reality of these times but finding grace and compassion with those they meet at the mission, volunteers whose eyes shine bright about the face masks masks worn, partner food banks (Midwest and Harry Chapin) that help sustain us with food to distribute week after week, our partnership with Cultivate Abundance that works alongside the mission to bring in fresh produce from area farms and gardens (ECHO, 12 Seasons Farms, Covenant Pres Church, Lehigh Pres Church), volunteers coming specifically to be able to communicate with our Haitian community friends, masks made with love by so many individuals and church friends of Misión Peniel and distributed directly to farmworkers through the CIW on Friday afternoon, the abundance of prayers lifted up and supportive actions taken to be in solidarity with our vulnerable farmworkers and their families in these times, financial and food commodity support by familiar and new friends of the mission...
Once again, in the midst of what can be dark and heavy times, the radiance of God’s light is carried by so many! We thank God for the ongoing blessings of such available light! We are currently looking for full-time residents to permanently be a part of our kitchen crew. The hours would be 7am-11am one day per week and would be helping the cook prepare and get the meals ready to be delivered. If interested, please message us so we can get you in touch with the kitchen coordinator. Current safety measures are in place following CDC guidelines, including sanitizing and wearing masks in the kitchen. If this is a volunteer opportunity that interests you, we'd love to have you!

"Beloved people of God, on this most holy night, the Great Easter Vigil,
when our Savior Jesus Christ passed from death to life,
we gather with the world
in vigil and prayer."
Prayer and text courtesy of the Book of Common Worship which is available from the PCUSA Store at https://bit.ly/2Nfoli7.
In the midst of darker times, we find the blessings of God’s light: Light on the faces of those who share in the outreach of the mission as volunteers and community members, Light from the hearts of those reaching out with words of appreciation and gestures of support, light, Light on all the donations of food and funds that allow us to keep serving, Light from prayers uplifted for our farmworker community, Light that inspires compassion and creativity for working through obstacles, Light that reminds us each day and week and beyond, that we are in this together and that some of Gods brightest Light can be seen and felt in all the ways we lean into it with hope and perseverance.
Blessings on all our more humble Easter celebrations this year. May the witness of the cross bring us renewed hope in the midst of despair, light in the midst of darkness, and loving transformation in the midst uncertainty and doubt! "Every morning is Easter morning from now on..."
Prayer for Holy Saturday: When all hope is lost and we see no way for goodness to overcome evil, God, come to our aid. When darkness overwhelms us and paralyzing uncertainty fells us, God, come to our side. When the liminal space between cross and resurrection feels eternal, God, come abide with us. Amen.
Join us for worship online tomorrow as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord!
The service will be posted on the church website at 8:00 AM.

"Good Friday is the day we remember Jesus’ crucifixion. The hours of noon to 3 p.m. are particularly significant as these commemorate the time Jesus hung on the cross. It is an especially important time to pray for the church and the world for whom Christ gave his life." More information and history about Good Friday can be found at https://bit.ly/2JCwhdM.

Maundy Thursday Worship, April 9, 2020
Worship with us on Maundy Thursday, as we remember Jesus’ last supper with his disciples. The service will be on the church website at 5:00 pm. The Presbyterian Church has authorized “virtual communion “ during the pandemic, so you may want to have your own bread and cup at home (you don’t have to have grape juice; any beverage will be fine). Or if you prefer, you may hold the elements in your heart, instead of your hands.

Thank you Rotonda West Mask Makers for 48 masks!

I've been going into our office every day for a week now and I have seen so many people drop by with donations. We've received coolers (still need some), handmade cards for our clients, a few bandana masks, food donations from restaurants and grocery stores and also some monetary donations. Thank you Englewood for your generosity!
Sadly, in times like this, con artists are quick to take advantage of people's good intentions. The Presbytery Office notified us today that in at least two different congregations in our Presbytery, people received emails claiming to be from their pastor, asking for money or gift cards. Someone used the first part of the pastor's email address, but changed the last part, so at first glance it appeared legitimate. If you receive a message like that claiming to be from our pastor, or any other pastor, please be advised that it is a scam. Delete and do not respond, and please let the church office know if you receive one!
Another common scam going around right now is the "grandchild scam." Someone will call or email pretending to be your grandchild or other family member. They say they need money for some kind of emergency, and ask for money to be wired, or for gift cards to be purchased. Please beware of this kind of scam! If you have any question, please hang up immediately and call your family member. This particular scam often surfaces in times of crisis, because people are more likely to believe that a loved one is in trouble and needs help.
Also, remember that neither the IRS nor any government agency will call you and ask for personal information like your SS# or bank account information.
If you have any questions or concerns, or if you have been victimized and need help, please call a trusted family member or call the pastor or church office. We are here to help.
Be sure to join us for online Holy Week Services! The Maundy Thursday service (including communion) will be posted on the church website Thursday at 5:00 PM, Good Friday service posted at noon on Friday, and then the joyful celebration of the resurrection will be posted Sunday at 8:00 AM!

During the pandemic, the Presbyterian Church Office of the General Assembly has approved “virtual communion.” CPC traditionally celebrates the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of the month, as well as Maundy Thursday. For those services, you are invited to participate in the sacrament at home with your own bread and cup, or by holding the elements in your heart instead of your hands.
Join us for Palm Sunday Worship online! April 5, 2020
The service will be posted on the church website at 8:00 a.m.
Creator God, we are grateful for cats who purr obliviously on our laps, for dogs eager to go for walks, for birds chirping outside our windows and squirrels scampering across the grass — each of them a reminder that much of life continues uninterrupted, regardless of our anxiety and worry.
