Mision Peniel

Another beautiful Friday filled with “Peniel” moments shared among all who came to the mission! Many thanks to the our friends from the Korean Presbyterian Church in Miami who bring a children’s ministry the first Friday of every month! They also provided haircuts and reading glasses. They were joined inside by friends from the Immokalee Soccer School and Academy and Naples friends. Together we served 539 friends from the farmworker community in Immokalee! Partnership in mission is a beautiful blessing!

Rev. Bill Teng, who is currently serving as Interim Pastor at Ardmore Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, is co-leading a mission trip through The Outreach Foundation from October 21 to November 6, 2019 for you to learn about God's work in China — to increase your exposure to the ways in which the church is thriving in China today and the endurance that carried them through the challenging circumstances of past generations. You will visit the cities of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Suzhou, Nanjing, Qufu, Jinan, Xi'an, and Beijing; with special attention given to Presbyterian heritage and opportunities for continued partnership. Total trip cost is only $3,800 (including airfares) from/to Philadelphia. The deadline for reservation is June 21. For more details, please contact Bill Teng at [email protected]

Are you preparing? Attend our seminar with representatives from both Sarasota County and Charlotte County, June 19 at 1:30 in Kastner Hall.

“My father said that, ‘My girls will become the men one day,’” Mukuna wrote. “He sent us to school, he taught us different skills saying that ‘I won’t like you to become the slaves of people.’ All this because he was a Christian.”

She attributes that to her father’s birth in Luebo, also home to the first American Presbyterian mission in Congo.

What a blessing it is to work alongside such great teams of volunteers on Fridays! Many thanks to our friends from Burnt Store Presbyterian Church, Punta Gorda, Cornerstone UMC, Naples, our doorman, Tom, from Buckingham PC and the Immokalee Soccer School and Academy! Together we welcomed 499 community members with “Peniel” hospitality! We are so very thankful for food donations from the Midwest And Harry Chapin Food banks, along with fresh garden produce from our own mission garden and Gardner friends! This week’s grocery bags were filled with nutritious food! We are also grateful for the clothing donations from churches and individuals. It makes it possible to distribute needed clothing each week. For a list of our current needs, please contact us or visit our website link to “current news”. Partnership in mission is a beautiful thing!

We want to thank those who shared their hands and hearts in Friday’s outreach among the farmworker community that came to the mission on Friday. Our team of volunteers included friends from the Edison Congregational Church, Ft. Myers, First Presbyterian Church, Lehigh Acres, Buckingham Presbyterian Church, Quaker Friends, the Immokalee Soccer School and Academy, and a special volunteer from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (they will be sending a service learning team as part of the World Mission Initiative in Jan. 2020). Together we shared the welcoming hospitality of Christ with 405 people from the community. It’s such a blessing to work together and share the love of God in simple but powerful ways! Partnership in mission is a beautiful experience!

Please consider joining us on Fridays and for other outreach opportunities!

Won't You Be My Neighbor?

In conjunction with our May sermon series, “Lessons from the Neighborhood,” we’re going to show the 2018 documentary, Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Called “one of the best documentaries ever made,” the 1 hour and 35 minute production “takes an intimate look at Fred Rogers,” an “unassuming minister” who lived out his call as “a creative genius who inspired generations of children with compassion and limitless imagination.” (Quotes from Focus Features movie promo.)

“One man reminds us that a little kindness can change the world.”

Join us Wednesday, May 8 at 3:30 in Kastner Hall!

See how a little kindness makes a world of difference. Won't You Be My Neighbor? is an intimate look at America’s favorite neighbor: Mister Fred Rogers.
