3/28/21 – Can You Hear the Hallelujahs? PALM SUNDAY

Would a parade for Jesus be announced today in our city? If so, would you attend? Imagine. . . What if all the churches decided to cooperate, agreed upon a time and date, set the music in place, arranged some sort of a ticker tape parade (modern-day palm branches)-- How many would show up? We could experience what occurred on Palm Sunday sometime around 30 A.D....

3/21/21 – Mercy Me: Jesus Changes Attitudes

Attitudes can make all the difference. Have you been in a restaurant where the waiter had a great attitude? Or perhaps you've experienced a clerk in a store who went the second mile for you? Attitude makes a difference! Attitude makes a difference to God, too. Often when Jesus did things publicly, like go to a party or teach in the synagogue, or heal someone, the Pharisees would have the wrong attitude....

3/14/21 – The Work of the Church

What do you think that the purpose of the church is? Some may say, "to worship God" or "to study the Bible" or "to fellowship with others." All of that is true. The church, though, is not necessarily about itself. While we love and care for one another and it makes a wonderful difference, we also love and care for our neighbors, who may never darken the door of our--or any other--church building....

3/7/21 – Sunday Morning Preview

If you have not been to First Presbyterian for awhile and attend this Sunday, you might be shocked. Here's a preview: Yes, like many in the DFW area, we had a flood on the last day of the snow and zero temps. So you will enter past a pile of wet carpet on the patio, have to maneuver around some stacked chairs, and walk on an uncarpeted floor....

2/28/21 – The Power of Attitude

A man named Zig Ziglar said, "Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude." Do you remember Zig Ziglar? He lived in the Dallas area. He wrote thirty books. He said things like You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want....

1/31/21 – The Sword of Faith

Years ago a pastor named J. B. Phillips, an Englishman, translated the Bible into modern language. Afterward, he wrote another book entitled Your God is Too Small. He wrote it not only for skeptics but also for believers. Just putting two and two together, to translate the entire Bible takes word for word slowness to understand and interpret it. Imagine going through the whole Bible word for word....

1/24/21 – The Balm of Forgiveness

Have you heard the song, There is a balm in Gilead, that makes the wounded whole. There is a balm in Gilead, that heals the sin-sick soul. 1/17/21 – Disabling Our Natural Inclinations

Do you ever do something and afterward say, "Sure do wish I hadn't done that!" Or, you find yourself noticing those same shortcomings in others. Old habits die hard. That's shared humanity. Do you have something from which you need rescue? We are all becoming weary of "the plague." What spiritual actions will help defeat the plague or any other enemy? 12/20/20 – Lessons & Carols, A Christmas Presentation

The angel Gabriel told Mary, who wanted to know how she could possibly have a baby when she was a virgin, "Nothing is impossible with God." 12/6/20 – Jesus Bears the Burden of Being Lord

Often the Bible talks about the impact of faith on nations. There are 151 such verses. During Advent many of the Scriptures we read talk about the nations seeking Jesus (called Immanuel or Messiah in the Old Testament). While this may seem a foreign concept to you and me, it is quite prevalent in the Bible. Jesus, as ruler and judge of the nations, brings good things, like peace, equity, stability, and fair judgment--things hard for nations to accomplish....

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I hope that for you this is a day of exactly that. We are blessed by God even in times of trouble.
