Dr. Barbara Parker is a consultant and teacher with a passion to help others discover a life of Christ-centered meaning and purpose. "I love working alongside leaders to bring out their best. Providing a fresh perspective can bring new energy and encouragement as well as focus to both experienced and emerging leaders." For more information go to parkerministries.org. In 2005, Barbara was called to start a prayer ministry and founded United in Prayer, a community prayer group for DeSoto, Texas. That ministry later grew into First Tuesday which meets monthly in churches to pray for local governments, businesses, and churches. From 2007 to 2013 she served as the Director of Women's Ministry at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Cedar Hill, Texas. She is currently serving as a Leadership Consultant with the Dallas Baptist Association. She also remains active in women's ministry so she can speak to you with a fresh voice of someone who has experienced many of the same challenges you do in ministry. Barbara has a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of North Texas, a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Dallas Baptist University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Christian Education Advanced Track degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

As many churches went online for the first time and everyone made digital their default, the long debate about whether online church is ‘real’ or not is settled.

And even if it’s not settled theologically (a few still have questions and objections and always will), it is settled practically.

Of course physical gatherings will return with joy as restrictions lift (don’t ignore the probability that the restrictions will lift partially and gradually), but to think that the world will suddenly go back to 100% physical when people have experienced digital is highly unlikely.

In the future church, if you care about people, you'll care about digital church.

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today - Mormon Tabernacle Choir

“He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'” Luke 24:6-7

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square present "Christ the Lord is Risen Today" in Lyra Davidica 1708, lyrics by Charles Wesley, arranged...

Imagine you’re watching Jesus hang from the cross. The only way He can breathe is by pushing Himself up using the nails in His wrists and ankles.

As the day draws to an end, He musters what little strength He has left to pull Himself up again so that He can cry out: “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?”

If we’re being honest with ourselves, we’ve all probably had moments where we’ve asked God, “Where are You in this? Why have You forsaken me?”

How should we respond when we find ourselves in situations where we feel alone, anxious, or forsaken?

The words Jesus spoke on the cross were actually taken from Psalm 22—a prophetic lament written by King David. In many ways, this Psalm is about Jesus, but it also provides us with three action steps we can follow when we feel alone:

1. Be honest with God about how you’re feeling.

Relationships start with being real. So if you’re feeling forsaken by God, tell Him that. Ask God your questions, and prepare your heart to hear his answers.

2. Give God glory anyway.

Our feelings don’t change the fact that God is worthy of being worshiped. In fact, it’s often through worship that we discover the cure for our worry. When we focus on who God is, our perspective eventually shifts—even if our situation doesn’t.

3. Remind God of his promises.

Throughout Psalm 22, David basically tells God, “I know who You are. And since You’re always true to character, deliver me like You’ve delivered Your people before me.” Reminding God of his promises is not only an act of faith, but it also helps us remember the faithfulness of God’s character.

Ultimately, God’s faithfulness was personified when Jesus was crucified. Jesus willingly suffered alone on the cross so that we could experience eternal companionship with God. Jesus is the prophetic fulfillment of Psalm 22. And, because He endured separation from God, we never have to.

Take a moment to reflect on Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for you.

Pray: Jesus, thank You for rescuing me from eternal separation from You. It’s because You willingly endured separation from Your Father that I never have to. Today, help me to pause and reflect on the magnitude of Your sacrifice, and to give You the glory You rightly deserve. No matter what I’m feeling, You are always worthy of my worship. So today, I choose to worship You. In Jesus’ name, Amen

LifeWay Recommends | Studies without Videos - LifeWay Women All Access

We know many of you gather in church meeting rooms or cozy living rooms for a couple of hours each week to study God’s Word together. But Bible study isn’t a one-size-fits-all commitment. If you can’t meet for more than an hour or if you’re between small groups and studying alone, choosing studies without videos may be your best option. What matters most is that you’re finding time to dig deeper into Scripture and grow closer to God.

Wow, four weeks into the FP4H study and finding this to be true. We are our own worst enemy. For some the battle is food, for others sex, drugs, or their sin of choice. When you give in to the desire and afterwards say"Why did I do that?" Well, you did it because you put yourself into a position of temptation! If you don't want to eat cookies at 9:00 PM then don't have them in the house! If you don't want to watch porn then put a block on your computers. We all make a choice of who we really want to obey. Who are you following? Self or Savior?
