“The human brain has many times more connections than stars in our galaxy!”
Apologies if I missed any announcement about this, is COH partnering with the schools this year for Christmas gifts for the children?
I am very intrigued by this religious organization...I work every Sunday though...Do you guys/gals offer a weekday worship service??
I was raped at a Motel 6 off Regal Row in November of 2019. I walked without a phone, money, and in my Polo boots without socks. I was so so upset I walked passed the church to King's Rd, and had to walk back to get to the church. By the time I made it, it had been a few hours. Sunday's afternoon service had already ended. I felt hopeless, alone, scared, angry, dirty, and I was at a moment in my life where I needed spiritual help. I'm an educated man, and I knew I could go to the hospital, but I was so afraid, and felt so alone, I needed the support of another human being. I have always been a Christian, my faith has always gotten me through lot of hard situations. I come from a loving supportive educated family. At that moment I was feeling unworthy and ashamed, and I also did not want to put them through the pain of knowing what I went through. My mother is 72 years old and I was afraid if she knew what happened to me itq would kill her. I had no friends, and no one to turn to to lean on. I had no one to hold my hand and tell me I was going to be okay, and no one to pray with me. I thought that if I came to the church, a man of God who claims his calling is yo do service work would co.e to mh aid. I was hoping he would sit down and pray with me. I was hoping he would guide me through to find the medical services that I needed. I wanted to save my life. I was feeling so much emotion, but I wanted to live. I wanted to heal, I wanted to find resources, such as counseling, but most of all I needed a friend that day. There was a little old lady that was closing up that Sunday. I knocked on the door, she answered and said, "I'm sorry sweety, we're closed." I couldn't hold it anymore and I broke down and cried, I told her I got rapedand I had walkedso far, and I couldn't go any further. Without hesitation, and risking her safety she let me in. She led me to a chair, handed me a box of tissues, and a bottle water and said she would call Reverand Neil. She went to the gift shop to use the phone. I could hear from her end explaining to that awful unfeeling cold hearted man that she had to let me in because she couldn't turn me away seeing I was in so much pain, that I needed help. She told him on her end that I was verydestrought, and I was asking to speak with him personally for spiritual help. He did not want to speak with me, he had no interest in knowing who I was or anything about me. He had no regards for me or my situation I was in, and he refused to see me, or even know of me. She walked back to me, and had a phone number for the police department in Dallas. She said that Reverend Neil said if I need help call them, or go to the hospital. Like I said I am an educated person, and knew about 911, but imagine being raped by four men with a gun in a dirty run down motel room. I did not know if I was going to kive or die, my only instinct was to do as I was told, not to fight back, and when I had the opportunity to run. I needed a friend, I needed someone to pray with me, and I needed someone to remind me that God loves me. He let me down, I already felt gross, I already felt like trash unworthy of anyone. I felt like like I deserved everything that happened to me, that it was my fault. Being raped was one thing, but what Reverand Neil did to me is another. He destroyed me that day. He reinforced my feelings that I am garbage to be thrown away. He wanted nothing to do with me. I was in an emergency situation, and he REFUSED to even acknowledge me. His rejection was far more detrimental than the rape it self. I have a transcripted saved showing me tell him about what I went through, and me asking for help, and even me telling him what his actions did to me. He doesn't care, he blew me off, and ignored my plea for help, because I am not Jon or Louis, or their dog Ming who has cancer, or one of the rich gays he prefers to eat Thanksgiving dinner with. In his mind I was just a nobody. He should lose his position at that church, that day I was in trouble, since he didn't want to see me, he should have called 911. I wasn't even worth that phone call to him. My name is Jarrod Stuart Martinez, I was raped in November of 2019. My life has and continues to be hell. I haven't lost my faith in God, because I am still alive for some reason. I asked Reverand Neil for help, I begged for his help, and HE REFUSED TO HELP ME. The little old lady from the gift shop drove me to safety. She didn't know me, I'm a 36 year old old Hispanic man, she saw passed that, risked her safety, and extended kindness to me. She had more compassion and empathy for me that day, the definition for God's love, than a minister who brags on Sunday about how he and church give back and save lives. There is truth in that though, you see it is the many volunteers, who most come from financially modest means who run that food kitchen, and who through works give back in the church, not Reverand Neil. He needs to get his hands dirty and work hands on with the people. He needs to work in that food kitchen, hug a homeless person, talk to them, and actually do what a real man of God should do. Thank you for reading this.

Paradise

One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Today Rev. Andria is going live before worship to offer some announcements and create a space for you to connect with one another and get ready for worship.

Sundays are for Service and Sharing.
Join us tomorrow (between 8:30am-10am) on campus at Cathedral of Hope to give back to our community and receive communion to-go. Than join us here on facebook at 11am for online worship as we celebrate that church is so much more than a building.

Every last Sunday of the month, we collect non-perishable food items for our food pantry which serves those in our community who are experiencing food insecurity.

Tomorrow, we will also be collecting new and freshly laundered blankets and sleeping bags for our homeless community. Blankets are valuable protectors from the cold winter weather, and hot summer pavement.

Use the list below to shop for food items that are desperately needed by the community we serve. Your donations will help us to meet the needs of our community.

Great are Your works;
they are pondered by all who delight in them.
Glorious and majestic are Your deeds,
and Your righteousness endures forever.
You have caused wonders to be remembered;
God is gracious and compassionate.
You provide food and remember Your covenant forever.

Sometimes we describe God in our own image, but scripture tells us that God made all of us in God's image. This week, we celebrate our God who is bigger than any of our personal limitations and definitions.

Pre-PULSE Worship Gathering with Rev. Neil

Tonight we are continuing our sermon series called Pursuing Purpose. We all want to be part of something greater than ourselves. When we live into the belief that we were made on purpose and for a purpose, we can start to find deeper meaning for our lives and greater connections with God’s call to us. This January, we are Pursuing Purpose and discovering who we are called to be.

Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

La Catedral de la Esperanza

Our worship continues in Spanish!

American Anthem - Ariel Collier, Soloist

Today is a day we get to dream about what America could be.

You may have heard President Joe Biden refer to this song in his inaugural speech. Here are the powerful words:

All we've been given
By those who came before
The dream of a nation
Where freedom would endure
The work and prayers
Of centuries
Have brought us to this day
What shall be our legacy?
What will our children say?
Let them say of me
I was one who believed
In sharing the blessings
I received
Let me know in my heart
When my days are through
America
America
I gave my best to you
Each generation from the plains
To distant shore with the gifts
What they were given
Were determined
To leave more
Valiant battles fought together
Acts of conscience fought alone
These are the seeds
From which America has grown
Let them say of me
I was one who believed
In sharing the blessings
I received
Let me know in my heart
When my days are through
America
America
I gave my best to you
For those who think
They have nothing to share
Who fear in their hearts
There is no hero there
Know each quiet act
Of dignity is
That which fortifies
The soul of a nation
That never dies
Let them say of me
I was one who believed
In sharing the blessings
I received
Let me know in my heart
When my days are through
America
America
I gave my best to you

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people--for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Honoring the Legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Time is neutral. It can be used either constructively or destructively. And
I am sorry to say this morning that I am absolutely convinced that the
forces of ill will in our nation have used time much more effectively than
the forces of goodwill. And it may well be that we will have to repent in
this generation. Not merely for the vitriolic words and the violent actions
of the bad people, but for the appalling silence and indifference of the
good people who sit around and say, “Wait on time.”
Somewhere we must come to see that human progress never rolls in on
the wheels of inevitability. It comes through the tireless efforts and the
persistent work of dedicated individuals who are willing to be co-workers
with God. And without this hard work, time itself becomes an ally of the
primitive forces of social stagnation. So we must help time and realize
that the time is always ripe to do right.
