Texas Baptists Urban Missions

Urban Missions The three purposes of the Urban Missions page are as follow:

1. To point to resources that will help church leaders in urban, inner-city, and areas that are experiencing demographic shifts.

To highlight opportunities for others to join in the work in urban areas of Texas.

3. To be a place that will share prayer requests about urban church work in Texas. Please feel free to share those prayer requests and we will get them out appropriately.

We welcome Daniel DeLeon as Church Starting Strategist for South Texas. He served before as Area Representative for Texas Baptists, director of personnel at the Rio Grande Bible Institute, pastor of PIB Santa Rosa, & moderator of the RGB Association. Give him a 👋🏼!

We were able to split around 1000 Hygiene Kits to 4 missionaries on the border. Gloria de la Pena says, “The most important thing is the note & prayers that were prayed over the kits. Women prisoners always feel alone & forgotten, this shows them the Lord’s love.”

We are excited to welcome Lonnie Tucker, an experienced church planter from Louisiana. He planted 2 churches in the past 15 years & started a church planting network in South Louisiana. He served on with the Louisiana Baptist Convention as well. Give him a 🙌🏻 to say hi!

MAP Missionary, Luiguii in Spain, taught the children in his church plant about prayer. He said the children learned “God listens to us & loves to spend time with us. God longs for you to come back & spend time with him.” What a great lesson for these children!

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. - Psalm 96:3
“This is my favorite mission verse because it reminds me that the Gospel is for people of every tribe, tongue and nation. It gets me excited and thankful that the nations have come to us in America and we have the opportunity to share with them every day.” - Meredith Rose, TXB Social Media Specialist

“Being a part of the Center For Missional Engagement (Missions Team) has been one of the biggest joys of my life. I get to do what I love, travel and meet people, and at the same time be a part of what God is doing to grow His kingdom. I am so proud to work side-by-side a great team of God-loving, Kingdom minded individuals that make a huge difference in pushing back the lostness in our great state. Meeting with pastors and Christian leaders on a daily basis has me more convinced that the local church is the conduit that God has been, is and will continue to use to further His great commandment and great commision in Texas and throughout the world.” - Tom Revilla, Church Starting Strategist, Area 6

I have a call to missions and have been involved in missions since my college years: IMB Missionary in Mexico, DOM in El Paso, TX, & developing a missional lifestyle. Now I serve as the director of the Center for Missional Engagement (a.k.a. Missions Team) and I feel very fortunate and blessed to be in this role serving our Lord. - Josue Valerio

I chose this verse because of the direct commission "sending" that the Lord Jesus has given me (and all His followers). We have been "sent". Our sending can be in our very home, family, neighborhood, community, city, state, country, continent and around the world. - Roy Cotton, former director of African American Ministries

"As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world." - John 17:18

“This is our purpose in life to know the only true God” John 17:3
I pray we can boldly & efficiently share the Hope of Christ. As we pursue Him, may those around us see His everlasting love. I pray in 2021 we can acquire a property to build a ministry resource center where families can find refuge, grace, and mercy in Christ, and that communities may be transformed by Him. - Vanessa Lerma, River Ministry Missionary

“Let's all strive to take some time to contemplate Dr. King's words and apply them to our own lives as we seek a deeper understanding of God's Divine plan for each of us. In his words I hear the soft echos of #GC2. Only a committed love for God and a uniting love for our neighbors will help cure the ills of the our land.” - Roy Malone, TX Baptists Director of Human Resources

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
