CONGRESO is designed to reach students with the gospel, invest in their lives, and equip them for impactful living as disciples of Jesus.

Day 6
Bible Reading:1 Corinthians 10:23-33
Focal Passage: “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31

Devotional: Everything we do should be for God’s glory. What I mean by this is that our lives should totally be focused on pleasing God in all we do. Our priority and our passion is a reflection of who we choose to serve. There shouldn’t be a distinction of who I am on certain days compared to who I am on spiritual days. I choose to be Christlike on a daily basis. I choose to honor Him in all I do so that my relationship with Christ will continue to move forward. The result of my relationship with Christ will continue to have a lasting impact on those around me. I let go of my plans so that I can take hold of God’s perfect plan for my life in reaching those around me with the good news of salvation. I want my life to point back to God in all I do. So everything I do is for God’s glory.

Prayer Prompt: “Lord thank you for speaking to us in many different ways. I thank you for loving me in even small amounts. Help me to become aware of the wonders you do in my life. Help me to give glory in everything I do. Thank you for opening my eyes to see you in everything I do. I love you. In Christ Name we pray Amen”

Author: Bethany Morales, Congreso planning team member

Day 5
Bible Reading: Acts 5:17-32
Focal Passage: “And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”Acts 5:32

Devotional: After being told not to share what was seen by all of the people, the apostles replied by saying that they “obey God and not human beings!” They were all witnesses to God’s miraculous work, so how could they stay silent? Many of us have been witnesses to God's work in some way, shape or form. During this time at home, how have you continued to experience Him and how are you witnessing this to others?

Prayer Prompt: “God, we ask that you continue to work in our lives and allow us to experience you fully. Help us to see the serious need for you in our world and in our own personal lives God. Give us the wisdom and discernment to be obedient witnesses for you, even during this difficult time. Amen..”

Please pray for the protection, strength, and wisdom for our pastors and chaplains serving around the state and across the world.

Day 4
Bible Reading: John 20:19-23
Focal Passage: “Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” John 20:21

Devotional : As we get to know and understand more of Jesus is so easy to admire and follow him, but his mission and message was more than just be liked so people would follow, He came to show us the way and thought us how to do it. We are not called to be, but we are called to do. Recognize who’s message it is and who’s sending us to share that message.

Prayer Prompt: Dear heavenly Father please give me strength, will and power as you guide me to do what you made me to do, that my faith would never fail in the dark moments and that I would always remember you are the one sending me to serve you and your people.

Our first responders stand on the front lines of crisis every day, but COVID-19 poses an additional risk to the health and safety of these brave men and women. Please join us in praying for the safety and protection of first responders.

Texas Baptists

As individuals and families across the country responsibly respond to the Covid-19 recommendations to stay at home, there is a very real risk that the incidence of both domestic violence and child abuse may increase. Please join us in praying for vulnerable children and families potentially in harm's way. Contact Texas Baptists Counseling Services for resources to help those in need.

Day 3
Bible Reading: Psalm 130:1-8
Focal Passage: “I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope;” 130:5

Devotional: The psalmist cries out to the Lord out of emotional distress when understanding he is held to the standard of God’s holiness. We all have sinned and fall short of measuring up to God. The psalmist waited for the Lord to free him from the guilt of sin and held to God’s promise of forgiveness. God delivered. What is your witness of God’s deliverance from sin?

Prayer Prompt: “Lord, you promise that if I admit my sin you will forgive me and cleanse me from all wrongdoing. I wait for You. Thank you for delivering me. Will you help me share with others about the ways you changed my life? In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

Day 2
Bible Reading: Jeremiah 1:4-19
Focal Passage: “But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.” Jeremiah 1:7

A call comes in many different ways, a text, an audible voice, or even an elbow to the ribs. Once a call is received and God is asking something of you, the excuses start. My dog ate my homework, I am not a good speaker, I stutter, I am too young. For Jeremiah, his excuse was just that, “I don’t know how to speak, I am too young.” (verse 6) We have all heard this before, “God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the CALLED.” What Jeremiah failed to realize was that God had prepared him for HIS work even before he was born. And you have been too. We are called to share the Gospel with the world, wherever we are, and whoever God puts in our path. HE has equipped us with HIS word, the Gospel, and HIS power, the Holy Spirit. Let us go out and live out our calling and be HIS WITNESS to this lost and dying world.

Prayer Prompt: God help and guide me, give me the words I need to share with the people who desperately need to hear YOUR message. Make me a strong WITNESS so that I can be the person who YOU created me to be, even before I was born. All glory and honor belongs to YOU. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Author: Joe Aguilar, Congreso Planning Team Member

Bible Reading: Exodus 3:13-22
Focal Passage: “God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel ‘I AM has sent me to you.” Exodus 3:14

Moses was not being sent to deliver his message but the message of God. God told Moses to tell the people of Israel that He sent Moses. God has called all His children to deliver His message to all people. In being a witness we continue to the call on being sent by God. Just as God went with Moses God goes with us too.

Prayer Prompt: “Lord just as you sent Moses you send me. Give me the strength to be a witness to those around me. You were with Moses and I ask that you would be with me. In Your name I pray. Amen.”

Texas Baptists

In the midst of uncertainty, there is peace and rest to be had when we look to our Lord. Join Texas Baptists this week as we meditate on the truths of scripture and pray for healing in our churches, state, nation and world.

The spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to impact churches, ministry partners and staff across our Texas Baptists family. While the situation remains fluid and there are many unknowns, we can rest assured that our help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
In an effort to provide the safest possible event environment for all our churches and guests, we have evaluated the following event(s) and have this announcement to share.

Congreso 2020 has been cancelled. Our leadership has prayerfully decided to follow the most recent recommendations from the CDC regarding group gatherings. We understand this is a difficult situation for Congreso Nation and want to ensure we promote health and well being among our communities. Please know that all churches who pre-registered will be reimbursed in full. A Congreso staff member will be in contact regarding the details of this process. During this global pandemic, we encourage Congreso Nation to be witnesses in your homes and communities. Stay connected with us as we provide updates on Congreso 2021. May we join in prayer as we seek to share our hope in Jesus Christ.

Please be attentive to any updates in the days ahead. We pray for your health and safety as we collectively seek the Lord’s guidance during these challenging days.

When García started Game 2 of the 2011 World Series, he became the second Mexican-born pitcher since Fernando Valenzuela in 1981 to ever start a World Series game. García pitched 10 innings, including seven scoreless innings, and posted a 1.80 ERA with 10 strikeouts. On October 28, the Cardinals defeated the Rangers 4–3 in the best-of-seven series after being down 3–2 to claim the franchise's 11th World Series title. ⚾️
