St. Monica School PTO

In accordance with its mission, the St. Monica PTO has created this page in order to communicate quickly and effectively with its community. In accordance with our mission, the St.

Monica PTO has created this page in order to communicate quickly and effectively with our community about important activities and functions. In so doing, we hope to further work to promote a supportive, well-rounded and Christian educational environment. The PTO believes our activities should be an example of Christian community life. As Saint Paul writes in Chapter 4 of his letter to the Ephesians: โ€œBear with one another charitably, in complete selflessness, gentleness and patience. Do all you can to preserve the unity of the Spirit by the peace that binds you together. There is one Body, one Spirit, just as you were all called into one and the same hope when you were calledโ€ฆNever have grudges against others, or lose your temper, or raise your voice to anybody, or call each other names or allow any sort of spitefulness. Be friends with one another, and kind, forgiving each other as readily as God forgave you in Christ.โ€

Mission: The mission of St. Monica PTO is to promote the spiritual, educational and physical welfare of the children at St. Monica Catholic School. St. Monica PTO strives to foster a closer relationship among the home, church, and school.

Teachers' Lounge Before & After

When we got wind that administration wanted to update the teachers' lounge, the PTO immediately jumped at the chance to help. Fast forward two months and construction parting ways, we could finally get in. What turned into 5.5 days of ripping out baseboards, scrubbing everything, painting walls, re-arranging and organizing supplies, and providing all new furniture gave teachers a respite and much-needed space to help them through this year.

Now, here is the before & after.

A ๐‡๐”๐†๐„ thank you to Jeremy, Assistant Manager at ๐‡๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฉ๐จ๐ญ ๐๐– ๐ƒ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐š๐ฌ (on Forest b/w Josey and Webb Chapel) for donating 8 gallons of paint, paint kits, tarps, a rug, plants and more. (#HDsupporternow) And an even ๐๐ˆ๐†๐†๐„๐‘ thank you to parents who volunteered and wanted to donate additional needs and treats so we could make this the best teachers' lounge ever. This project was already done on behalf of parents and your additions helped greatly.

(We did not actively ask for parent donations so as to minimize requests to you, and as members of the PTO, you were already a part of this special project!)

Announcing our 2019-2020 Cecilia Martin PTO Volunteer of the Year

Since we couldn't announce our Volunteer of the Year at the year-end mass, we surprised her at her office! We are excited to give her recognition as the first recipient of the Cecilia Martin PTO Volunteer of the Year Award.

Many may not know all that our Volunteer of the Year has done over the years to serve the St. Monica community. We are delighted to honor Allison Elko as the first-ever Cecilia Martin PTO Volunteer of the Year Award for the 2019-2020 school year for all she has done and continues to do for the community, and doing it with grace, kindness and a love for service.

The Elko family has been at St. Monica for 10 years, and during that time, Allison has had a hand in nearly every PTO committee and beyond, and is always willing to help. A humble community member, she has evolved many of PTOโ€™s functions into organized, well-oiled machines.

When chairing our Volunteer Appreciation committee, she revamped it to be what it is today โ€“ so this is a full-circle moment! She also effectively changed the Cake Walk at Autumnfest to be bigger and better, and even secured the walkโ€™s first company sponsor, Nothing Bundt Cakes. She also served at various times as a Grandparentsโ€™ Day volunteer, a grade level representative, and homeroom parent, and lead the dรฉcor for the middle school mixers, which is not a small undertaking!

Beyond the PTO, she has chaired Vacation Bible School and served Dadsโ€™ Club Gala duties over the years, from hosting a sponsorship party to leading dรฉcor. Allison is also deeply involved in the Cub Scouts and Scouts, including chairing popcorn sales and the end of the year banquet.

And to top it off, she has even helped with mother/daughter teas โ€“ though she has two boys of her own! โ€“ simply because she likes to help with anything that serves the children of St. Monica School.

We are proud to give the first Cecilia Martin PTO Volunteer of the Year Award to Allison Elko for living and leading with a servantโ€™s heart and being a fervent example of the PTOโ€™s purpose for St. Monica Catholic School. Thank you, Allison!

The PTO is excited to announce we are renaming our Volunteer of the Year recognition as the

Named after Cecilia Martin, an outgoing 8th grade parent, member of the community since she was a student here herself, and a constant servant of the St. Monica community, the new name recognizes the heart and humility we should all strive for as Cecilia has through her work and leadership with the PTO, the School Advisory Council and the community as a whole.

To bestow the award in Ceciliaโ€™s name, we will be able to always recognize her years of service with a humble servant heart, for building the PTO to what it is today and to serve as a guidepost for recognizing our future volunteers.

โ€œBear with one another charitably, in complete selflessness, gentleness and patience. Do all you can to preserve the unity of the Spirit by the peace that binds you together. There is one Body, one Spirit, just as you were all called into one and the same hope when you were called.โ€ Ephesians 4:2-4

God bless all of our volunteers this year for the time and talent you have given our community. We could not do what we do for the school if we didnโ€™t have volunteers like you. We want to recognize once again this yearโ€™s PTO Volunteers of the Month - thank you for all you have done and continue to do on behalf of the PTO and St. Monica!
