Hi Ann, I’m reading your President’s Letter again this morning and am touched by your words. When my term as Sisterhood President ended, I felt the same way! I could have written this letter, and hope that I did express my appreciation and gratitude appropriately back then – 20 years ago. My term as Sisterhood President was 1997-1999. Faye Spiegel was President before me, and Jacque Prager before her. Jacque was President when I first joined the Sisterhood Board. My first position on the board was on the Oneg committee. Quickly I was in charge of Publicity. That was an amazing experience! Jacque gave me and one other board member a rose on the night of her last board meeting because she wanted to call attention to how well our two committees had performed. Before you know it, I chaired the big garage sale and increased our proceeds by more than $10,000 – and I co-chaired the Woman of the Year event in 1994. Those years were wonderful! We always had tons of fun at the WRJ events. I felt like I was part of something important. We were growing friendships and bonds of love and trust that are still with us today. We are still bonding! I’m so excited about Laurel and what she and our leaders are going to plan for this year. Thank you for your desire to grow in leadership. You are awesome! You helped me and really stayed in step with me when I chaired the Paid Up Supper that year when you were the VP of Membership. You were ready to grow and Sisterhood and WRJ presented those opportunities in a wonderful way. You are spot on with highlighting that our work for the greater good of our Temple and the community around us is what brings us together. I’m so glad my mother-in-law (Rae Carafiol, of blessed memory) told me back then to get involved in Sisterhood. She lived in St. Louis and had always enjoyed being active in her local Sisterhood. She knew that if I would get involved in Sisterhood, it would change my life and be an important part of enjoying my life as a Jewish woman (I had just converted to Judaism in 1991!). Enough about me! Thank you for being our fabulous Sisterhood President these past two years, Ann!
Ally Karpel is an Eisendrath Legislative Assistant for the RAC. She started The Texas Hillel Bella Abzug Social Justice Fellowship at UT Austin. She is our future!

The WRJ Southwest district.
Returned from a motivating and educational Social Justice Conference in D.C.! As part of the WRJ Southwest District, I met so many focused and dedicated sisters. We have many call to action items regarding reproductive rights, our U.S. Supreme Court, and Family Violence. There is much information on the WRJ and JWI websites that will be especially useful as our Social Action Committee continues to focus on Domestic Violence Prevention. Shabbat services were warm and wonderful, and gave us the spiritual strength to move forward with all we have to do. Here are a few photos (posting separately), and a very timely and meaningful prayer that was shared with us at Friday night Shabbat. “...to do and...to become...”, this is what it’s all about!
As we look forward to the spring season, it’s not too early to begin thinking about Passover. The first Seder is April 19th and Traditions wants to help make yours more memorable. We have a large collection of beautiful Seder Plates, Haggadot, Matzah Covers, Kiddush cups and more. BONUS - Special Sale on Nambe pieces for the month of April ONLY!
