Lawson Road Baptist Church

Lawson is a Baptist Church and a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. We believe the scriptures conservatively and in serving our community liberally.

Our desire is to be a hub for Christ in the Lawson community.

Operating as usual

The last few weeks have been such a blessing. Today we celebrated our newest gifts from God; Miller with his family and Norma/Edgar with their soon approaching gift. Supporting families is a very big deal and scriptural.

Thanks so much to Susan for organizing Norma's shower today and for all who attended.

What a wonderful day and I hate I do not have a picture of everyone who blessed us.

In many ways it was young persons day; a 21 year old brought a wonderful message (wisdom well beyond his years), early 20 and younger sisters brought a message in song and did a wonderful job. A young person serving in the military was back to worship with us, it was great to see her doing so well, said good-bye to a young intern who had served with us this summer.....what a blessed day.

Not to forget that grandchild number 14 made his first (of many to come) visits to church. (Our hearts are full)

The person we sang happy birthday to had a message for us, our friend on video had a strong message, the music picked by the worship leader pointed us toward God, time with children taught us all, the young ladies special was on point, the scripture read and prayers lifted up hearts, and the message was clear and was easily used by the Holy Spirit.

I love it when we gather together and we do not just hear one message from God but many; today was such a day. Leaves you looking forward to the next opportunity to worship.

Here we go Straight to the Top 2021 Vacation Bible School;
Psalm 121:1-2,"I lift up my eyes to the mountains--where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."

Going to be looking at the great things God has done on mountains. Going to learn about God and something about the geography of the Holy Land.

Fired up and ready to climb, starts Monday!

Over the last month we have recognized our graduating seniors, provided some great activities for our church children and the community to enjoy, (exotic animals and the bubble truck) we have recognized our fathers, and on top of that the church turned 78 this month!! We have some boys at camp right now, and are looking forward to a very very busy July with VBS, Summer Boredom Busters and Love of Lawson!!

Last Sunday was exceptionally good with visitors and recognition of our Fathers and some of our best numbers since we have returned. God has seen us through 78 years and we are looking forward to year 79!

It was great to see Ron, in person last night. These two folks right here have guided us through the pandemic; we never missed a beat concerning worship.

The weather was perfect to eat out and we sang at least ten hymns of the faith and looked at God's word as well as the messages from the hymns themselves.

Small crowd but a good night, big thanks to Ron and Michele for putting it together and for everyone who got that piano outside!!

This week we open up the hymns, Sunday School, and singing....but really nothing changes, we will still be worshiping the living God, who never changes.

We will have a special surprise guest leading us in worship.

Matthew was ten months old when we walked into Lawson Road. He was raised under the nurturing arm and Godly teaching at Lawson. No matter where he goes or what he does he will take the love of Lawson with him.

Last evening he and Maya welcomed little Cooper Paul Harris into the family. We of course are proud and just as we share in others joys we wanted you to share in ours.

Soon we will rejoice with Edgar/Norma and Matt/Sadie as they welcome new gifts into the family of God. New life is a gift from God and brings with it great joys and responsibility to the church. (family of God) Let us be faithful stewards of God's great gift.

We are proud of our young people and the activities they participate in and their many accomplishments. So important for them to be a witness in whatever they do and wherever they go! It's tough out there, praying protection and peace over them.

The church weathered the storm well as it has many times over the last 77 almost 78 years. Not only is the church resilient but the people who worship and live around it are as well.

Grateful for the people who by God's grace started this mission in 1943 and for those who have loved, worshiped, and served the community each year since.

'Christian community is the place where we keep the flame of hope alive among us and take it seriously so that it can grow and become stronger in us.' Henri Nouwen

It was not just Candlelight Service it was Family Night. It was a blessing to watch people read the scripture, pray, play the piano, listen to a Christmas story and worship together. It is always a sweet moment and it was in 2020. God has been exceedingly good to Lawson during these days. We are hanging in, bonding together and looking to the Savior while we wait for better days.

Each year is special, this one was no different. Each year it makes my heart happy as we worship God in silent moments before we celebrate his birth.

It was a good night.

Hard to believe this week we will celebrate our 24th Christmas at Lawson. It has been a special place to raise a family and minister. Praying God's richest blessings and safety for all this very special season.

God Bless and Merry Christmas!

11/26/2020

It has been a different kind of year so I traveled a little in my pictures to remind me of the great days of the past and present. Most encouraging was looking at pictures of this year and knowing that Lawson has still been out there ministering in the middle of a pandemic. God has taken good care of us, we are blessed and are thankful for all of our blessings, past and present. Happy Thanksgiving from Lawson! (had to stop on the pictures, I have a couple!)

11/24/2020

It has been a great month at church. The Moran's have been sharing about their time as missionaries, the children were able to safely get together for a Thanksgiving lesson and the church gave over 24 boxes to Operation Christmas Child. November was nice, now we look forward to December, starts on Sunday!

10/27/2020

Thanks to all the volunteers who made Trunk or Treat happen. Creatively working to keep ministry moving forward and having a good time doing it!

Spoke to a lot of the folks who attended afterwards and they had nothing but praise for our folks and the effort.

Touching lives in a positive way, with a heart for Jesus; it is what we are called to do.

09/26/2020

Hey on a Saturday, church broke out. 80 something year old man working in the garden, one gentleman working on the sign, one gentleman working on the yard, others bringing in food and pushing out food, working on the building inside and out, and others organizing ministry. (not everyone is pictured)

When I left (people were still there) I was grateful. In the morning we worship!

We have a lot of great senior adults at our church. They enjoy their time together, serve one another, and are faithful to worship. We are blessed.

One of our favorites is Darrell Moran. He turned 87 last week and he is full of life. More than that though he loves people, has a sweet spirit, and loves to tell others about Jesus. When I think of Darrell I think of Caleb, strong at 85 (Joshua 14; Darrell is older than Caleb!) ready to take hold of the promise of God.

If God blesses me with as many years I pray I will still be eager to serve God like Darrell is. Belated Happy Birthday from all of us at Lawson!

Just a few pictures of what was a very busy week for Lawson. For instance last Saturday was our monthly food ministry, then in the middle of the week a team helped our Hurricane victims by providing water and snacks as they waited in a very very long line near the church. Then on Friday and Saturday we had our annual Love of Lawson. We reached sixty families with backpacks, school supplies, health items, and spiritual support. (more to come) God provided us with great opportunities, tomorrow we worship that God!

08/29/2020

Tonight we were able to serve/love the children and their families that were registered. Tomorrow everyone is welcome! Please let your neighbors know about tomorrow from 9 t0 11...We will be providing backpacks, school supplies, fruit, family bags, and snacks.

08/20/2020

The school year has begun and though some things may be different, others remain the same. The one thing that certainly remains the same is our need to pray for our young people and their educators. In the midst of chaos we can be certain that God has a plan and his plan includes our young people. The next generation gives me great hope. Let's pray not only for the young people of Lawson but for the young people of our nation.

Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."

08/16/2020

We are grateful God provided for us a special week at VBS! A lot of good friends, families, and learning about Nehemiah. Thanks so much for our volunteers!!

The faces here are the faces of ministry at Lawson this summer. Without these faithful volunteers Summer Boredom Busters would not happen. They come faithfully and with a good spirit. In case your wondering it does get hot in the parking lot, but our friends keep on having a great spirit as they minister. Two critical folks are missing, Robby Hall who helps us put up our awnings and of course Kim who holds it all together. Blessings to all of them.....future opportunity/blessing awaits those who would like to join in the fun in the weeks to come.

77th Anniversary of Lawson

In celebration of Lawson's 77th anniversary and our return to worship on site we had a balloon release. Love the part of the video right after we release the balloons when Cyndra say's, "Thank You Lord"....abolutely! It was an outstanding day to worship.

06/04/2020

This Sunday we will worship the living God in person at Lawson. We will celebrate on that day the 77th anniversary of the church. God has been good to Lawson over the years, He has been faithful to His people. Service starts at 11 and there will be some safety guidelines coming to membership in an email.

06/03/2020

Of these three good looking guys the one on the right is Brother Wayne Taylor. He ministers in Pennsylvania with the support of Village Missions. At 7 tonight on Zoom we will have a conversation with Brother Wayne. I know you will be blessed. Join with us tonight.

06/02/2020

With frustrating days on all fronts recently it was good to spend some time remembering how faithful the Lord has truly been to me.

From my first sermon on MLK Blvd being the only white family in the building, to Cuba, to Oklahoma, to Camp Allen, to Pleasant Grove, to Lawson, to Mt. Lebanon, and all points in between God has blessed me by surrounding me with people of all cultures, abilities both special and otherwise, nationality, race, and economic status. I and my family are richer for it.

"After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands." Revelation 7:9 (heaven)

Reminded that there are blessings to be had and lessons learned if we only put ourselves in position to allow God to work. Praying God pours out His spirit on Lawson the last seven months of this year.
