We are having so much fun today with TE kiddos whose schools are still closed. Thanks URJ Greene Family Camp for partnering with us! Can’t wait to do it again tomorrow!

[10/21/19]   Dear Friends,

While our Temple building and grounds did not suffer significant damage in last night's tornado, many of our Temple families have been affected. Our hearts and prayers go out to all whose homes and neighborhoods have been damaged and who are displaced.

Temple will be open this afternoon from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. We will provide child care specifically for Temple families who need a safe place for their kids while parents cope with this emergency. We will also have Wi-Fi, coffee and work stations available during those hours today and throughout the week.

As always, our clergy are here to offer spiritual support, and they along with our education staff are here to help parents process these events with their children. In addition to our festival service this morning and daily minyan, our Shabbat services this coming Friday night will be a beautiful opportunity to gather in prayer and strength.

We have already heard from numerous congregants who want to be of help to others. We are in the process of determining where the greatest help is needed for our Temple family and beyond it. Once we know more, we will be in touch with information regarding volunteer and donation opportunities.

Today marks the joyous holiday of Simchat Torah, the day when we complete the annual Torah cycle and begin again with the first verses of Genesis. Our holiday is darkened today by the destructive events of last night. But Simchat Torah also insists on the creation of light. We have decided to open Temple this afternoon in that Simchat Torah spirit of creation-to create a space of safety and strength for our members, and to respond to last night's challenge with a new beginning of blessing.

Chag Sameach, and thanks in advance for all the ways we will support each other during this time.

Rabbi David Stern
