Dear WUMC Family,
Do you remember when we were taught that "obedience is better than sacrifice"?
That saying originates from 1 Samuel Chapter 15 when Saul was commanded by God to carry out an action with specific guidelines and instead of following those instructions decided to modify them. He plundered a neighboring nation and built an altar to make sacrifices to God.
When confronted by the prophet, he tries to justify his modification stating, "I worshipped God with it." Samuel rebukes him by reminding the king that God is most pleased when we are doing what is asked of us. And no amount of offering in money or time can remove the responsibility we have to obey this commandment: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
Our obedience is being tested in this season. You might not get sick, but someone else can. Instead of being defiant in the name of obeying Apostle Paul's mandate to "forsake not the assembly," let us find creative ways to continue assembling.
Please see the attached document for more information on how we will gather.

Warren UMC - Dallas
Dear, Ms. Gloria:
I am writing to express my gratitude for all the love that you deposited into this worshipping community. For decades, your joyous spirit and bubbly demeanor have impacted the lives of many. Thank you for firm handshakes and warm embraces. Thank you for lending your voice to this choir and tickling the ivories when necessary.
Thank you for the regular Facebook messages to offer words of affirmation and remind me that you were thinking of me. Thank you for welcoming my family and loving on us. Thank you for your prayers. Listing all of the contributions you made would prove to be a task too large.
Words are escaping me and saying, "You will be missed," doesn't seem to capture the vastness of the void that is left in our hearts. We're still trying to make sense of what happened; many of us are still in shock. Your death is untimely and tragic. You deserved to depart peacefully. Instead, you had to suffer as a result of senseless violence. Our souls ache. May justice be served.
Until we meet again,
Pastor Joshua E. Manning

When a community falls on difficult times, God often calls on the members of that community to put their heads and hearts together in order to pull through. God has sounding that call through our friends at Victory Baptist Church of Dallas. Over the next couple of months, we have an opportunity to be the change we want to see. Spending a couple of hours on a Friday evening could make all the difference in a young person's life. I'll be there. Will you join us?
