The Muslim Student Association at Southern Methodist University strives to branch out to all Muslims and Non-Muslims by unfolding the values of unity and knowledge in efforts to increase awareness of Islam.
Welcome to SMU's Muslim Student Association! Our organization unites the Muslims at SMU as they come together and celebrate the tenets of our religion. Simultaneously, we continue our community service and remain an important part of the Dallas community as well, serving as a resource for people of different faiths to learn about Islam and its presence at SMU. Just a few of the services MSA provides to Muslims at both SMU and the surrounding community are weekly Jummah prayers, a wudu room, and a prayer room to offer prayers, as well as weekly meetings following Jummah on Fridays and Iftars during Ramadan. Our organization spearheads three large-scale annual events, the Fast-A-Thon in the fall and Islam Awareness Week in the spring, MSA Showdown, among other lectures, and social events throughout the year.
Mission: The mission of the MSA chapter at SMU is to unite and serve the needs of the SMU Muslim community. Our main goals are to educate and spiritually uplift the Muslim community through the Qur'an and Sunnah as well as serve as a source of information about Islam for the entire SMU community. "All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black any superiority over white – except by piety and good action." --[ From the Prophet's (PBUH) last sermon]
Jummah Mubarak ❤️
We wanted to reflect on a few verses from Surah Hujarat today. These verses and many others in the Quran teach us about the importance of racial equality and our personal responsibility to instill it in our communities. It is not enough to just read the teachings of the Quran without applying those lessons to our own lives.
The Black Lives Matter movement is not over and it will take continuous efforts on our part to keep the momentum going. We must continue to support our Black brothers and sisters and turn our beliefs to action. Keep using your voice to fight for justice; whether that is through protests, petitions, donations, or contacting representatives. Continue to educate yourself and others on the matter and learn to be actively antiracist because Black Lives Matter today, tomorrow, and everyday after that.
Recitation by Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy
We stand in solidarity with our Black brothers and sisters. It is our responsibility to fight racism in our own communities and we have listed ways to donate, petition, and get educated. We hope you have these important conversations with friends and family inshallah. Easy access to the links can be found in our bio #blacklivesmatter 🤍

Asalamualaikum! My name is Hussain Saleem and I am a junior majoring in Economics with Finance Applications! I have loved being a part of the MSA ever since I got to SMU and alhamdullilah I had the privilege of being the President this semester. Being involved with MSA has really made SMU feel like home the past couple of years. My vision has always been to further enhance the infrastructure of our MSA, so that it not only benefits our members this year, but for years to come inshaAllah. Although our semester was cut short, we had an incredible board this semester, and I enjoyed every moment of it. If any of you ever needs anything, please do not ever hesitate to reach out! Stay Safe and Much Love ❤️ 📸: @moham_mad_ani
Salaam, everyone! My name is Alishah Ahmed and I am a sophomore double majoring in Political Science and Finance. I currently serve as the Vice President for MSA alhamdulillah. MSA has been a part of my SMU journey since I first started attending this school and I’m so grateful to be a part of this organization! Our semester was cut short, but I am still blessed to have worked with the current board to create an amazing semester and inshAllah I am excited for what’s to come.
Hello! My name is Mushfequr Rahman and I am a third-year President’s Scholar from McKinney, TX studying International Studies and Health & Society. I serve as MSA’s Secretary, which has been one of my favorite experiences on the Hilltop. As Secretary, I get to connect with our members every week with our newsletter and I work with some of the greatest people on campus (our Exec, of course). MSA is a great way to learn more about Islam and the Muslim community at SMU - even if you’re not a Muslim! I love SMU’s MSA to bits - there’s a reason why Mushfequr, Mustang, and Muslim all share at least three letters!
I’m Mena Bahram, I am a sophomore in the Cox School of Business and I am the Treasurer of MSA! It has been such an honor to serve this role for such an amazing, diverse, and accepting organization on campus❤️
Salam everyone! My name is Leena and I am a junior serving as the current Outreach Chair. My job is to be a representative of the MSA on and off campus and to invite people like you to this amazing organization. MSA has made SMU more of a home away from home by giving me a family of students and faculty members I know I can always reach out to. My time on the Executive Committee this semester has been so fulfilling, and I am so excited for what’s in store for the future of MSA insha’Allah! Don’t hesitate to reach out to me, it’s always a pleasure.
Asalaamualaikum! I’m Amber Siddiqui and I am a Freshman on the pre-med track and am majoring in Biology and Human Rights! MSA has been one of the biggest parts of my experience at SMU and have met some of my best friends through it. Starting at a new school and experiencing college for the first time can be a very daunting task, but I can whole-heartedly say that MSA made that transition 1000x easier for me. Alhumdullilah, I was able to serve as the Activities & Community Service Chair this semester and for the little time we had, I think we had a great time! I am so excited to see what more we can do together and for the community in the future inshAllah. If anybody ever needs anything, even though I do not know how much I can offer cause I’m barely figuring this college thing out myself, feel free to reach out! 📸: @moham_mad_ani
Asalamulaykum. My name is Ammaar Kazi and I am a pre-med student from Memphis, Tennessee. I am majoring in Biochemistry on the Pre-Medical Track, with minors in Arabic, History and Public Policy & International Affairs. Since first joining the organization three years ago, the SMU Muslim Student Association has really made me feel like home at SMU. I genuinely feel that the SMU MSA is the best MSA in Texas and has the potential to be one of the best in the United States. 📸: @moham_mad_ani
Hi my name is Hebah Jaffery. I'm a senior studying civil engineering and human rights. MSA has been a huge part of my time here at SMU! Whether its Jummah, Coffee Talks, or a hangout on the weekend MSA always has something going on. I'm so sad I can't enjoy my last semester on the most beautiful campus ever but I can't wait to come back and see what MSA has going on! 📸: @moham_mad_ani
ASA! My name is Shayzal Siddiqui and I’m a sophomore majoring in Biology and minoring in Human Rights. Joining MSA as a transfer student was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Transferring into a school with a relatively low muslim population was personally a bit intimidating, but MSA helped me find a community to adjust and confide in. I’ve met amazing people who strive to make MSA a home for all the Muslims on campus. It has been an honor to be a part of MSA as Jummah chair. I’m excited to see MSA grow and prosper in the semesters to come! If you guys ever need anything, please FEEL FREE To ask me or anyone on our amazing board.
