St. Luke "Community" U.M.C. - Dallas

A Good Friday blessing, especially at 7:50 with a solo by South Dallas Concert Choir Director AJ Roberts.

Maundy Thursday Service “Love Each Other”: Service will start shortly at 8:00p.m. We are experiencing technical difficulties.

Companionship is shared in our Church, in our Community, anywhere really. But Companionship starts at Home, with those closest to us, our best Friends and Family. Our Children. Our Parents.

Learn more about Companionship Milestones at our first Mt. Olive Meal when the building reopens. Table Worship is an opportunity to create a peaceful ritual at home, at work, or in a restaurant, where two or three, or six or eight, or even twelve gather to mark an important moment or memory. Gift Stones can be given at Table Worship to any Faith Companion who celebrates an important moment or milestone in life.

To learn more about Milestones, connect in with our Companionship & Leadership Table Talk on Zoom, starting Thursday, April 16 at 7 PM. (All of our Bible Studies use the same code.)

A reminder from David W. Anderson of Milestones Ministry:

Rituals and Traditions in Taking Faith Home as another Devotional.
The Rituals and Traditions in Taking Faith Home provide a wonderful resource for individual our household devotions. The Rituals and Traditions are directly linked to the scriptures for the week. Prayers and caring conversations can easily fit into the Rituals and Traditions--and are often written right in them.
Here's our recommended format:
Start by reading the theme at the top of the page and the Prayer of the Week that's on the same page.
Read the Scripture Verse for This Week.
Read and do the recommended Rituals and Traditions from that week's TFH.
Close with personal prayers, the Lord's Prayer, and A Blessing to Give from TFH.

Tenor Part for #Hallelujah Virtual Choir - Mormon Tabernacle Choir

NEEDED: 10 Videos of any Favorite Song with the word HALLELUJAH or ALLELUIA in it. And please, wear white in your recording.
And please. We want to hear you. Or you and a friend. Or you and the family. Or you and the pets. Or you rapping the words to a Drumba beat. Make a JOYFUL noise unto the Lord!! JOY is appreciated. Singing ability is optional!!

Keep it about 30 seconds or less so you can post it in the comments below. And yes, we said any song with the word Hallelujah in it. So if Ray Charles' Hallelujah, I Love Her So is your choice, OK. Or Pete Seeger's, Hallelujah, I'm a Bum. I guess so. But. Amen!, by the Impressions, that Sidney Poitier made famous in Lilies of the Field, or Hallelujah, 'Tis Done, by Mahalia Jackson are probably preferred.

We have a whole list of other suggestions too. Google the phrases listed below and you should find an accompaniment track of some kind. And we would love it if you added your own selection to list. We will be collecting your offerings during the WHOLE SEASON of EASTER!!

Of course, if Leonard Cohen is your favorite "Hallelujah" jam, that one's TAKEN!!
That's the one Nikhil is working on. We may even post our first attempt today.
Because. For the first time ever: He's singing with me as I play the guitar. Those who know him well, know this is an Easter miracle.

Before Daddy knew of Nikhil's Autism Spectrum and sensory integration issues, he used to jam out on the guitar with his beautiful baby boy. But those squeals that sounded like joy were actually a protest of pain. And what seemed like a beaming smile was actually a grimace. So from the time Nikhil was old enough to communicate more clearly, he has treated Daddy's guitar as Public Enemy #1. For 10 years he has cried and screamed if he walked into a room and my guitar was out. If I picked it up to play he would take it away and return it to its case.

But yesterday, for the first time ever. The guitar came out. I asked him to sing the song with me. It was the song that he prepared with his Voice Teacher to sing at his first Christmas recital. His first time at a microphone. His first public solo. And now, his first video with Daddy accompanying on guitar. A Christmas miracle AND an Easter miracle.

What song with the word, Hallelujah!, captures the phrase "Easter Miracle" best for you? Perhaps you've always wanted to sing Handel's "Messiah" with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. We have links for that right here. You can pick your part, click a link below, and record yourself singing with them. Or do the same thing with any YouTube video. Play the YouTube on one device and record with another device, like your phone.

Record it. Post it. And tell us what about that song makes you think, "Easter Miracle!!" Thank you:

PALM SUNDAY @ the Mt. of Olives, April 5, 2020

With a bit of imagination, a touch of technology, and a willingness to innovate in interesting times ... a few handfuls of tremendously dedicated individuals can do that. Well. God can do that through willing disciples!!

None of us had attempted Zoom Worship before March. Or wanted to. And we rarely used it for meetings. Technology has not been our asset. Old fashioned communication has. As a small congregation we care for each other well.

So social distancing is a dire threat. The threat of Zoom Bombing has generated a real concern. But we gather together to lean on each other ... as we encourage each other to to lean on God. And so Zoom Worship ... and Bible Study is becoming our way to let God ... Holy Spirit Bomb us ... online.

Huge shout out to Pathways2Promise Executive Director Rev. Jermine Alberty for his dedicated partnership and technical support. Jessica Dexter, our Companionship Movement trainer has offered us a model for supporting each other in crisis that keeps us focused on staying connected. Walking together. Reaching out persistently. Practicing a Side by Side faith while building Circles of Care.

If you are a small congregation looking to grow closer ... to God ... and each other ... rather than grow larger ... this is a ministry worth considering. It’s not ours. But we value Companions.

Zoom is not for everyone. But it’s helping us see technology as more of an ally than a threat. And Companionship is helping us find new partners. Everywhere.

Let us know if you’d like to learn more!!

How to Light Shabbat Candles | My Jewish Learning

A GOOD FRIDAY Facebook Video Vigil
Do ONE of these seven or ALL SEVEN, if you can.

VIDEO one Prayer (waving your hands over the candle three times this way, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit ... or for your Family, your Community, and your World)

Please POST your VIDEO in the Comments below
This outline uses the FAITH5 (Share, Read, Pray, Talk, Bless) devised by Rich Melheim in the book Holding Your Family Together and available through Faith Inkubators.

A) SIT: At a TABLE or in a CIRCLE
with ONE Candle
or up to SEVEN.

B) SHARE: Everyone shares one HIGH point of the week and one LOW point of the week.

C) LIGHT, READ, TALK, & PRAY up to Seven Times

1) LUKE 23:34 - Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

LIGHT Candle #1, READ surrounding text and TALK about a phrase that touches your HEART.

Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech Ha’Olam,
May this candle be a light for you to enlighten me, Lord. May it be a fire for you to burn out of me all pride, selfishness and impurity. May it be a flame for you to bring warmth into my heart; warmth towards my family, my neighbours and all whom I meet. Help me to forgive, especially those that are hardest to forgive.

2) Luke 23:43 - Verily, I say unto you, today thou shalt be with me in paradise.

LIGHT Candle #2, READ surrounding text and TALK about a phrase that makes you HOPEFUL.

Blessed art You, LORD our God, King of the universe,
who has given to us holidays, customs, and seasons of happiness,
for the glory of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, the light of the world.
