Sunday, February 3, 2019 marked the last service of Good Shepherd (Faith Community)Community church at the 4701 Virginia St. The church has met in this location for 41 years! We had another church building purchased but the process hit a major snag. The title is not clear proper paper work . following a church division in 2008, was not done. your prayers are encouraged. Next Sunday, February 11 we will meet in the pastor's home. Here is a photo from yesterday.

[01/29/19]   This coming Sunday will be our last service in the meeting house at 4701 Virginia Ave Dallas TX 75204 as the building has been sold. We had a contract to purchase another traditional church building close to the area but as the purchase process went through we learned the title was not clear. We await God's direction and timing for the future but the. congregation will meet at the pastor's house for awhile. Prayers are appreciated!

Our Chrismon Tree - the various symbols represent Jesus Christ our Savior: the golden lion (He is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah), the white lamb (He is the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world), the golden crown (He is the King of the kingdom of God), etc.

[12/20/18]   Good Shepherd Update
A couple of months ago we sold the apartment building and last Friday we sold the church meeting house on Virginia Ave. So in 30 days we need to be in a new place. A possible church building we have a contract on has an unclear title ! Your prayers would be greatly appreciated. Ministry continues but meeting place is unresolved.

[11/13/18]   We are in the process of closing the sale of the church meeting house. Wisdom is needed as we look for a new meeting location. If things close successfully we will need to be out by January 28.

[10/05/18]   Pastor Jeff is currently doing a sermon series on the 12 minor prophets. Each Sunday we have an overview of the main message of the prophet.
We are looking to relocate our meeting place. We continue to meet at 4701 Virginia Ave in old east Dallas at 10:30 AM
Our service of worship is full of Scripture, music mostly hymns older and newer, congregational participation and climaxes in the Lord's Supper! All done for the glory of God and the up building of his people.

[09/19/18]   This coming Sunday evening special home fellowship meeting at Pastor Jeff's. Our friend from India will share their ministry beginning at 6:30!

[07/30/18]   In today's service we focused on the third section of the Nicene Creed -we believe in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is vital to the Christian for without him there would be none who believe. He is the One who brings about spiritual birth that produces faith and repentance uniting us to the Lord Jesus and his work on our behalf. He is the one who brings to us the presence of Jesus. We need his power and his fruit in our lives constantly."hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." Romans 5:5

[07/11/18]   In the Nicene series we are in the section on the person and work of Jesus the Christ. Where did Jesus come from? He was and is the Word eternal who came from the Father as a true human being of the line of Abraham Isaac Jacob, Judah, David through Mary never losing divinity but putting on humanity for us humans and our salvation. How was this accomplished? He suffered under Pontius Pilate, died and was buried but on the third day he rose from the grave! "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." 2 Corinthians 5:21 "He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." Romans 4:25 Where is he now? This coming Sunday we look at "he ascended into heaven. Come celebrate Christ victory with us. He is Lord!

[06/30/18]   This Sunday evening July 1
Evening Service at 7:00PM
Our good friend Martin Rizley and his wife Paola plan to be with us. He will give us an update of their ministry in Spain as well as preach the evening sermon.
Martin is originally from Houston and has been serving the last three years as pastor of a Baptist congregation in Malaga, southern Spain. He has served several terms as a missionary in Spain. He also served as pastor of the Texarkana Reformed Baptist Church for over 10 years Wayne and I had the privilege of visiting him one time when he was serving as assistant pastor of a church two hours south of Madrid, Spain, in the city of Alcazar de San Juan in La Mancha (Don Quixote territory - windmills on top of the mesas there).

[05/24/18]   Looking Forward
We are seeking to sell our current buildings and moved to another location. Also looking for pastoral intern to help us in a revitalization process. We need prayer partners. Will you pray for us?

[05/02/18]   Our Sunday Gathering for Worship
The worship experience can only be fully present if one is there from the beginning. Today so many disconnect corporate worship and divide it into parts. Some think the singing and music is the worship while others think the sermon. The truth is that corporate worship is a meeting of worshippers with God as well as with one another. We begin with a call to worship and the service moves in a sequence- singing is interlaid as congregational acts of praise, prayer, instruction, response. Our services are centered around Christ as the revelation of God who comes to us by his Word and Spirit. The service climaxes with the Lord's Table.
Worship is essential to the Christian life. Gathering with God's people is not an option we choose but a joyful duty we embrace. Join in worship for God's glory and your spiritual health. We welcome you to meet with us.

[04/07/18]   Second Sunday of Easter
Jesus Resurrection is the first fruits and we follow in the last day- Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 1 Corinthians 15:20

[03/08/18]   We need someone(s) to join us in ministry here in Dallas. Prayer is always appreciate as well as gifts but presence and active involvement in the life of the church is much needed. Consider and contact if interested. Read our web page information and listen to sermons on sermonaudio/gscc. If you know others who might like a challenge in their life and in Christian outreach share with them please.

[02/27/18]   Let's Sing!

Singing and music play a big role in the gathering of Christians especially in the local church. It certainly plays a huge role in our gatherings. Here is a question what do you sing in the gatherings you attend? How do you sing it? Do the men sing? In so many churches music is good but it is focused on performance. Also, it is separated from the rest of the service and called worship and singers are titled worship team. But where is this a reflection of the New Testament? "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." The music is only a part of a worship service. And worship team must be all the gathered believers present.
Here are a couple more questions: Do you (all the assembly) sing a variety of types? Is the focus on content or is it mostly feelings? Singing should be about the glory of God, the story of Christ Jesus, expressions of prayer, teaching to build up the body. "I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the understanding also".
The singing in our assembly uses both old and new. The songs are a variety of types. The words are accessible in print through worship guides and hymnals. The songs are selected to fit the flow of a Christian service of worship and to reinforce the teaching of Scripture.
Come sing with us!!
It will do both your heart and mind good and bring glory to God.

Brother Leonard Lyons played a vital part in our church. He opened the door for the services, greeted visitors, passed out the hymnals (and took them up), set up and took down the sound system - and was there every time we had a service for 11 years, except when he was sick. He was a quiet and humble man. We loved him and he loved us. There is a hole now in our church fellowship - how we will miss him! This great enemy, Death, has taken away our brother. But Death has not the last word. As the apostle Paul declared:

"Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Cor. 15:54-56

Yes, our Lord Jesus Christ has the last word:
Death is defeated!
Eternal life is won!
We shall rise from our graves at the resurrection when Christ returns and then we will be with the Lord and his people forever.

"Leonard, we await with anticipation that great Resurrection Day when we shall see you again at Jesus' feet."

The picture below is of Leonard (the man on the right) about 3 years ago when I (Jeff) took him to Terrell, TX, for his sister Dorothy's funeral. The man next to him is Pastor E. G. Pierson of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where Leonard's own funeral service was held today.

Mahler Symphony No. 2 - Text

This week our congregation suffered a great loss in the death of our brother in Christ and faithful church member, Leonard Ray Lyons.Leonard was a sweet and precious servant of our Lord Jesus. A passage of Scripture that reminds me of him- "I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord than dwell in the tents of wickedness." Pastor Jeff and I usually take him to the Dallas Symphony for a season because it was something he loved. Tonight we were there without him- his ticket unused and his seat empty. The performance tonight was MAHLER. Symphony No. 2, "Resurrection". A wonderful musical work and the chorus singing was so powerful. "Rise again, yes, rise again,
Will you My dust,
After a brief rest!
Immortal life! Immortal life
Will He who called you, give you.
To bloom again were you sown!
The Lord of the harvest goes
And gathers in, like sheaves,
Us together, who died.
O believe, my heart, O believe:
Nothing to you is lost!"

We will you you, Leonard, but look forward to our reunion in the day of our Lord's return.Until then farewell.

[02/09/18]   As a small congregation in Old East Dallas, we are facing the prospect of a transitionand major challenge. Our co-pastor, Mark, is possibly headed to the Northwest US. This will leave us with a solo leader. There are many things that must be done in a congregation. One of these is transportation for members who do not live in the area. When one person basically has to do everything- sermon, communion, outreach, etc., it is very difficult. We need prayer for God to bring others to work with us. Big churches usually have surplus people and resources. Sometimes God's people can grow more when they are involved in service.

[10/03/17]   Reformation Study Group Meet

For 6 Saturdays beginning October 7 we will have a study group at our building at 4701 Virginia Ave on the Five Reformation Solas from 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm.

A DVD discussion featuring Kevin Deyoung, Albert Mohler and Trevin Wax and an interactive workbook, produced by The Gospel Coalition. All interested are invited. The series ends November 11. Come join in the discussion.

[10/03/17]   Celebrate the work of God in the Protestant Reformation with us this month. Each Sunday in October features both sermon and service around one of the Five Solas. We will follow the Cambridge Declaration order. This past Sunday, October 1 st the focus was on Sola Scriptura (the Bible alone as the final authority for Christian doctrine and practice. The schedule is
