Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-off canceled due to Coronavirus concerns

Tiferet Israel and the Chili Cook-off Steering Committee have decided to cancel the cook-off this weekend due to health concerns for the Dallas Jewish and general community, the cooking teams, vendors and volunteers.

“Canceling the Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-off was a very difficult decision, however, we feel it is the right decision given the current situation,” said Stuart Roosth, President of Tiferet Israel.

“While we believe we had adequate health precautions in place, many have called us with concerns about having so many in our community together at this time. Our primary concern is the health, safety, and welfare of our community members.” Ed Jerome, Chili Cook-off Co-Chair.

The Cook-Off has been canceled! Thank you for your support

Unless the City of Dallas advises that festivals and gatherings should be canceled, the Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-Off will proceed as scheduled.
The planning committee encourages each attendee, team, vendor, and volunteer to practice good hygiene guidelines:
Wash your hands - often and for at least 20 seconds.
If you sneeze or cough, cover with a tissue and discard, or use your elbow to cover. (And then go wash your hands!)
If you display or feel any signs of illness, please stay home for your sake, and for ours.

For our part we will:
Actively and routinely sanitize surfaces throughout the building and grounds
Provide multiple handwashing stations.
Provide hand sanitizer at major entry points, food stations, dining area, and at hand washing stations
Encourage those who are ill to stay home.

We look forward to seeing you at the Chili Cook-Off on Sunday!

[03/10/20]   Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and
the Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-off

The Cook-off Steering Committee is taking the COVID-19 concerns very seriously and we are following the City of Dallas and the Center for Disease Control recommended guidelines. They HAVE NOT, at this time, suggested that events be canceled. The City of Dallas Office of Special Events recommends the following precautions be taken to reduce or stop the spread of germs and viruses:

Here are a few recommendations to prevent the spread of germs, specifically COVID-19:

Ensure ample hand washing and/or hand sanitizer stations are easily accessible throughout the event

Post simple educational signs regarding respiratory etiquette and hand hygiene

Routinely disinfect surfaces such as countertops, frequently touched surfaces, and service points

Send participants who show signs of illness home

Everyone is reminded that we should all be practicing preventive measures that can decrease your chances of acquiring the common cold or influenza viruses.

While the immediate risk of COVID-19 is believed to be low in North Texas, we will continue to monitor and follow the advice and guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) websites.

We would ask each individual planning to participate in or attend the Cook-off to respect these recommendations and not attend if they are not feeling well, have a fever, or feel that being in a crowd would unnecessarily expose themselves to the health risk.

The Cook-off Steering Committee will continue to keep the health and well-being of the Cook-off participants and attendees at the heart of any decisions we make. We will update everyone involved as soon as possible if and when the recommendations from the City of Dallas or the Center for Disease Control change. Information will be emailed, posted on our page, and will be made available on our website.
