Forming Servant Leaders Over 1,800 Catholics at SMU Did you know that Catholics are the largest self-identified religious group on campus? Catholic Campus Ministry at SMU is thoroughly engaged in campus life and our community.
With an 85+ year history on campus, we remain here to celebrate, support, and challenge you in your spiritual journey toward an adult faith. We encourage you to come by the Catholic Center or explore our website to see the many opportunities Catholic Campus Ministry at SMU has to offer! Since 1932 Catholic Campus Ministry at SMU has served SMU students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the local Catholic community. We provide an environment for fellowship, sacramental ministry, moral and ethical discovery, community service, spiritual enrichment, and leadership development. Catholic Campus Ministry at SMU is committed to being a profound presence on campus as inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We strive to form servant leaders of SMU’s future “world changers” to live their Catholic faith professionally and personally. Currently under the leadership of Fr. Wade Bass, Catholic Campus Ministry at SMU serves the largest religious denomination of students on campus with diverse programs designed to meet each student “where they are.” Ministries and programs include daily Mass (except Saturday), RCIA/Confirmation, Bible studies, mission trips, Servant Leadership Council, community service, Awakening Retreat, discipleship, Sunday Supper, FYSH (first year small groups), and Jericho (contemporary music and a message). For many Catholic students, the Neuhoff Catholic Center is their “home away from home.” Come make it your home, too.

On Sunday, November 8 at 12PM in Perkins Chapel, Fr. Wade will be assisting the University and Office of the Chaplain and Religious Life with a vigil service for Robert “Jaden” Urrera. Our larger SMU community is mourning the death of Jaden, 19, who was fatally shot in Downtown Dallas on October 31, 2020.
Jaden was a second-year student from El Paso, Texas. He transferred to SMU this academic year and was studying political science at Dedman College on the pre-law track. Jaden is the son of Dr. Robert and Patricia Urrea, and brother to Katrianna Urrea.
We will be assisting with the vigil service in honor of Jaden’s life and to extend our condolences to the Urrea Family. Jaden’s family is grounded in Christ through their Catholic faith, and as an act of charity and love, we invite our community to offer prayers for Jaden and his family.
The vigil will be live-streamed on the Office of the Chaplain and Religious Life’s YouTube channel. You can visit their page here: www.youtube.com/user/SMUChaplainsOffice

“Let me tell you the truth: You are enough. You are more than enough. God made you, and God does not make junk. "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb." (Ps. 139:13) You are not just a body; you are a body and a soul. You have an inmost being that does not come from your parents, from the physical DNA that they gave you, but from God Almighty who breathed life specially and intentionally into your very self.” — Leah Darrow

Dear current and former students of Catholic Campus Ministry at SMU,
Please see the following statement from the Legionaries of Christ about Fr. Edward Bentley, a priest of their religious order: https://legionariesofchrist.org/communication-regarding-father-edward-bentley-lc/ Fr. Bentley was never assigned to Catholic Campus Ministry at SMU, but between 2016-2019 he occasionally assisted here with Masses, confessions, and spiritual direction.
Whenever a minister of the Church is accused of misconduct, members of the faith community can themselves experience pain and trauma. If you are a university student associated with Catholic Campus Ministry at SMU and would like spiritual support, I am available for prayer and for conversation.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr. Wade Bass
Director and Chaplain

STUDENTS! We’re kicking off the school year with our annual Mass of the Holy Spirit with Bishop Greg Kelly at the 5PM Mass at Perkins Chapel, this Sunday, Sept 6. We’ll also be passing out our new tees after the 5PM and 8PM Masses. If you’re new and fill out our registration form to get involved, you’ll get a free tee!
The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a tradition within the Church dating back to the 1500s, and we, as a community, have partaken in this special tradition annually to kick off to the academic year over the years. We want to see Perkins filled (with that 70 person COVID capacity and socially distanced, of course) with you students! First years, seniors, transfers, Greek students, all of the above. Invite your friends! Remember to sign up for Mass (link in bio) and check out our IGTV video on Mass procedures if you haven’t joined us at Perkins yet.
