“I chose Wesley because my awesome Stampede Guides (shout-out Ryan Kelson and Ashley Gans!) talked so highly of the community that they’ve built here. I chose to invest myself in Wesley because everyone is so loving, fun, and welcoming! My freshman year would look so different without Wesley!” -Alex #WhyWesley

Our #WhyWesley comes from the one and only Ben Jaksick this week!! “Before coming to college I had heard stories about how tough the first semester of college was going to be. Not only is school difficult, you are also far away from home and things can get pretty tough. I never fully believed these stories until my first week of college. When I showed up at SMU I didn’t know anybody and it seemed like everyone else had everything figured out. But then I went to the first Wesley event and from that moment on I knew Wesley was going to be my new home. Now every time I walk into the house someone yells hello no matter where they are in the house or what they are doing. Whether I have needed help with homework or juggling there has always been someone who is willing to help me. I have loved getting to know everyone at the Wesley house and I’m excited to continue to grow in my faith alongside my new friends.” 💙
#WhyWelsey from the one and only Madi Peppard: “I first joined Wesley my freshman year because I knew I wanted to grow deeper in my faith in college, and some of my friends were in Wesley as well. Because of Wesley I have made some of the most amazing, genuine friends, and have found such amazing community! It is so wonderful to be surrounded by such an amazing group of people who share the same love of God that I do!” -Madi
We love you Madi! So happy you call this ministry home!
Pony Up y’all. Pony Up.

We have had an amazing first two weeks and we are so excited to cap it off this Sunday night, September 8th with our first Night Of Worship of the year at the Wesley House. We will kick it off at 7:30pm, but come on over early to hang out and study.
It is exactly what it sounds like; A night of acoustic worship! Let's gather and bring our hearts to the God who is so worthy of our praise.

Y’all!! We are so, so grateful for this past year and the community that has been built and fostered in this house. We are going to miss all of you this summer but can’t wait to hear about everything you are doing. We love you and we’ll miss you. Thanks for a great year 💙
Daniel Heard’s #WhyWesley: “Wesley House for me is home. I have been a part of this community ever since the beginning of my freshman year. Since then, the support and love I feel from Wesley has gotten me through the hardest times in college. Life can get so hectic and overwhelming, but the time I spend with at Wesley every week brings me peace and keeps me anchored in my faith. The friends that I have made through this ministry bring so much joy to my life, and I have learned so much about God’s love by seeing them love others.” We love you Daniel and we are so grateful for you in this ministry 💙
These Wesley House gal pals are ~WORTHY~ This past weekend they had a rewarding and refreshing women’s retreat at Highland Park United Methodist Church.
This week’s #WhyWesley comes from Corbin Healy. He says: “Wesley has been home for me. When I was struggling to find friends and connect, Wesley was there. I have never encountered a group more welcoming, loving, and genuine. I know that, no matter the situation, I can come to Wesley, and people will be there for me. Wesley has forever impacted my college experience and life for the better. It is safe to say that I would not be the person I am today without Wesley.” We hope everyone finds their people at Wesley House—we love you Corbin!!
When we asked James Huang why he picked Wesley House, he said “2 things. First, it’s Biblical. Coming into college, I was looking for a campus ministry that is deeply rooted in the Word of God - Wesley House does exactly that. Every week, we spend a long time digging deep into the Bible and sharing our thoughts and questions on the passages - I always leave inspired and knowing more about the Word of God. Second, I miss home. And Wesley is home.” We love you James and we are so glad you found a home with us! #WhyWesley
#WhyWesley “Back home, the church that I went to didn’t have a very engaging youth program so my faith wasn’t very strong. Coming to college, I knew that I had the opportunity to revisit my faith- that’s when my roommate invited me to come to bible study one night and I absolutely fell in love with the Wesley House community! It’s so great surrounding myself with wonderful people while at SMU and they’ve really helped my faith grow!” -Kalena Dorgan
Our first #WhyWesley of the semester comes from Mira Sewaiseh! She sticks with Wesley because “In high school, I constantly heard that 70% of students drop their faith in college. I was determined to be more than that statistic, and Wesley House is exactly what I needed and more to beat that. This community has helped me grow my faith in unimaginable ways, form lifelong friendships I never knew I needed, and push me to grow in new ways everyday. It has provided a space that is not only my comfort but also a place that consistently pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Wesley House has changed my life and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
We love you!
Wesley House is the college ministry of Highland Park United Methodist Church and is for all 18 to 22-year-olds looking for a place to connect and grow with others in their same stage of life. Wesley House is a place for college students where community is developed, questions are discussed, faith is deepened, and purpose is discovered. It’s the place that college students call home during these transformative years. We want to help you navigate life and faith through Bible studies, small groups, worship, and missions, connecting you to the larger body of HPUMC. We have what you are looking for. Welcome home.
