Exodus Ministries

Exodus Ministries is a 501 (c) (3) non-denominational Christian organization.

Exodus Ministries assists female ex-offenders from all over the state of Texas that are re-entering society after incarceration in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system and have demonstrated a willingness to make positive changes in their life. These women are dealing with the residual pain of having been separated from their children for a long period of time and do not have the immediate financial resources to sustain their family. Exodus helps them and their families to become productive members of society by serving their spiritual and physical needs. Exodus is a fresh start on a new life for the women and children we serve!

Mission: Exodus Ministries empowers formerly incarcerated mothers and their children to achieve a productive and fulfilling life through Jesus Christ.

This little one has the best model pose, don't you think?!

Finally home, mama!

Did you know, we have a very small, free laundromat on property for our families to use? They have learned to take shifts and be respectful of one another. However, we have a washer/dryer set that has bit the dust and is unable to be repaired.

Is anyone selling or willing to donate a set?

Welcome home, Allison! May this year be the year you learn who you are, become rooted and grounded, and discover your worth in Jesus.

Please join us for coffee. Hear a story of God’s grace from an Exodus graduate and learn more about Exodus Ministries.

Thursday, February 27, 9:45-11:00 am.

Thank you Jill for helping us stock our Children's Center!

Thank you Fellowship Bible Church for supplying Children's supplies and games for our kiddos! What a huge blessing!

Consistency

For many of our kids, this is the first time they've had consistency... their mama committed to her sobriety and right living, a consistent roof over their head, and consistent people pouring into them. At Exodus, we celebrate the "small" things... that aren't really small at all!

Did you know, if you wanted to do a collection at your church, small group, or business on behalf of Exodus Ministries, you can let us know and we can create a text-able graphic to make it easy?

Amen! Shouting this from rooftops over here!

We are so excited to launch our “Love Lives Here” campaign! As many of you know, our hope is to restore dignity to the women and children we have the privilege to serve. Our Love Lives Here campaign exists to help restore dignity to our building! We are in need of monthly donors - $10, $20, $50 a month that could give a mom and her children a safe place to call home.

Wear and tear comes with an old building, and we cannot ignore it any longer. Will you join us in providing hope to a mom and her children? You are the difference.

Gentle parenting is NOT the easy way out.

Especially when we as parents are raising ourselves too.

It's bloody hard work rewiring our brains and healing our selves.

I struggle every day.

I fail often.

I am sorely tempted to give up sometimes.

But I pause, take a break, let go and try again.

I know this is a life long practice.

The more I practice, the better I'll get.

And then perhaps when my children are adults, being gentle to themselves and others will come easier to them.

To everyone trying ,
failing ,
and trying again ,
I SEE YOU.
I APPRECIATE YOU.
We are all in this together.

An emotional arrival day last night when this mama saw her bed for the first time. In many cases, these women have gone without a bed. Can you imagine? All of our eyes were teary last night after this moment! Thanks for giving her, and her three babies, a home and a second chance.

“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.” - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In honor of Dr. King’s life and legacy, we invite you to join in actively engaging your community through volunteer work and community service. By doing so, you will create a tangible impact that can reverberate further than imagined.

May we live this.

We currently need a group to host a January birthday party and a group for February! Can you help us?

Wow, we are SO THANKFUL for this group of people and their generous donation!

Today’s East Dallas Networking meeting was a great way to kick off the new year! After being a part of this group for a decade, many members are like family. Throughout the year, we accumulate money, $2 at a time, and have enough left over at the end of the year for donations to East Dallas charities. This year we had $7500 to give away, and the recipients were White Rock Center of Hope, Exodus Ministries, East Lake Pet Orphanage (ELPO), Dallas Academy, and Ferguson Road Initiative. These are all wonderful organizations that do so much for our community. Thanks to Chuck Kobdish, Mark Weber, and Jesse Simmons for keeping this thing going!

Our Story

A Summary

Women from all over the State of Texas come to Exodus Ministries to reunite with their children. They arrive at the gate of Exodus with little more than the clothes on their back and a hope to live life differently. Coming directly from state prison, county jail or a drug rehab center, they are broken and in need of healing and a safe place for their family to live.

All of the women who come to Exodus Ministries to find hope and healing have had difficulty with submitting to authority and bring with them a past which includes ex-boyfriends and fathers of their children who do not embrace the idea of living life differently. Sometimes, people from the past wish to do the women harm, so Exodus Ministries provides a gated community in which the women can live in relative safety. On the other hand, the women are learning to be accountable to those in authority over them.

Our Program

Exodus Ministries provides a holistic program:

· in a safe, caring environment

· which allows our residents to bond with her children

· where our residents can develop the work and life skills necessary for independent living

· and support in a community of faith among other women with common desires.

Each woman who is admitted into the Exodus Ministries program must commit to making the changes necessary for long term success. While rigorous and demanding, there is a balance of love, encouragement and support for each woman to learn from her past experiences and become a role model and successful parent for her children. Exodus Ministries also recognizes that each woman and child arrives with brokenness, hurt, and is in need of a comprehensive program to address their many needs.

Where and how does this all happen?

· In thirteen (13) fully furnished, one- and two-bedroom, single-family apartments

· In a gated, secure and safe community of like-minded families

· In an intensive 12-month residential program

· Five (5) life skills classes each week

· A private, one-hour session each week with a license professional counselor

· A private session each week with a case manager to address goals and progress toward them

So, what are the problems faced by the women?

· very few have the tools, resources or life skills necessary to regain custody of their children

· even fewer possess the basic skills necessary to obtain or retain gainful employment

· Inability to find a living wage job, especially to support one or more children

· Inability to secure suitable and permanent housing

· Inability to maintain sobriety

· Inability to locate and obtain primary health care and mental health care;

· Difficulty in overcoming depression and low self-esteem

What does the transition to a life lived differently process look like?

· Month One - From Lock-up to Motherhood

While all of the women in our program have children, most have never been a mother. They spend more time with their children than most have ever spent with them.

· Months Two to Eleven - Education and Life Skills –

o Job Skills - Finding gainful, lawful employment understanding what it takes to retain employment

o Life Skills - Classes are conducted each weekday evening, including money management and budgeting, parenting, Bible Studies, Celebrate Recovery and more.

· Month Twelve - Graduation – Preparation for the transition to living independently, with current employment, a savings account, a firm understanding of their budget, an appreciation of the responsibilities of parenthood, and new life skills.

Are their lives changed? You decide.

Based on best practices derived from over thirty years of working with this population, our program model is succeeding in reducing recidivism among the women we serve. Exodus tracks the number of women who enter our program each year. All the women who enter Exodus program are also tracked for re-entry into the prison system, whether or not they complete and graduate from the program. Our data shows that:

· less than 4% of the women who enter our program (whether or not they graduate), recidivate within three years of release from prison, compared to 59% of all inmates released from state prison or county jail return to confinement within two years.

  • 0% of our graduates recidivate within three years of their completion of the program

  • 100% of our graduates are employed when they finish the program

  • 100% of our graduates have suitable, permanent housing for themselves and their children

  • 83% of our graduates have been promoted to a higher paying job or line of work

  • 95% of our graduates have maintained custody of their children after finishing the program

  • 95% of our graduates maintain their sobriety

  • 58% of our graduates are enrolled in, have completed college level classes or obtained a degree since graduating from the Exodus program
  • For over thirty years, Exodus has offered a unique program model that provides residential living, parenting classes and support services for formerly incarcerated woman and their children. No other program in Texas provides these critically overlapping services in the way they are provided at Exodus Ministries.

Miracles happen every day. Join us at Exodus Ministries for front row seating as God transforms lives. We would be happy to give you a tour and further information about Exodus Ministries. Check out our website at http://www.ExodusMinistries.org.

    General information

The women we serve face many life issues and the stigma of being in prison. Most have struggled with substance abuse and have been abandoned by their husbands. Without loving care and structured guidance, they are vulnerable to returning to their previous life which will negatively impact their children. It is typical for a woman leaving prison to arrive in Dallas with only the clothes on her back, $50, no job, few friends, and with little hope.
