President Eyring: Hearing Him Through Those in Touch with Heaven

Sometimes the guidance we need can come through those we love and trust. Watch to learn how President Henry B. Eyring heard the voice of the Lord through his treasured and wise mother. #HearHim

"When I didn’t qualify for the finals in the most recent Olympic games, I fell to my knees. I couldn’t have waited through the COVID-19 postponement, been an alternate more than four times, and worked through multiple injuries just to have it all end now. I was devastated. It didn’t feel fair. I was still excited for my teammates, so I prayed for understanding and peace. I felt it almost immediately, even though this huge part of my life was over—or at least I thought it was. As I began to pack my bags, a voice kept telling me it was still my time and things would be okay. I pushed it back, thinking it was false hope, but the voice kept saying, 'It isn’t time to leave. Don’t pack yet.' I listened and waited. And then I got a phone call: my teammate wouldn’t be competing, and I would be taking her spot.

"I’ll never forget taking the floor for the last time. I reflected on the journey to get there, the ups and downs. They had prepared me for this. Without the challenges of the past, I wouldn’t have been able to get there. I needed that refinement. As incredible as it was to get the silver medal, I knew that wasn’t the only goal. I felt an overwhelming impression that I went through all those trials to be a stronger and better example of Jesus Christ. The comfort, courage, and motivation to get up and try again was always from Him. Knowing that I am a daughter of heavenly parents continues to motivate me to never give up and always try my best, no matter the odds. You never know when you will called upon."—MyKayla

The Church Urges More Action to Limit the Spread of COVID-19 08/12/2021

The Church Urges More Action to Limit the Spread of COVID-19

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent the following message today to Church members around the world:

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

We find ourselves fighting a war against the ravages of COVID-19 and its variants, an unrelenting pandemic. We want to do all we can to limit the spread of these viruses. We know that protection from the diseases they cause can only be achieved by immunizing a very high percentage of the population.

To limit exposure to these viruses, we urge the use of face masks in public meetings whenever social distancing is not possible. To provide personal protection from such severe infections, we urge individuals to be vaccinated. Available vaccines have proven to be both safe and effective.

We can win this war if everyone will follow the wise and thoughtful recommendations of medical experts and government leaders. Please know of our sincere love and great concern for all of God’s children.

How I Hear God's Voice

Jamila is the only Deaf person in her family. But through acts of service and prayer, she discovers that we don’t always need our physical ears to #HearHim.

“Several years ago our family moved to Dubai, UAE. I had never lived in a place where the centrality of God in peoples’ lives was so universal.
I found it a delight and refreshing to be able to speak about the influence of God and religion in my life without having others discount what I said or become offended. I felt this way because most everyone I met in Dubai spoke as I did, creating an immediate connection as we communicated.

“Sitting by the pool next to another mother, waiting for our children to finish swim practice, I was sharing how I was struggling through some trials and feeling discouraged. This Muslim mother proceeded to offer kind words of encouragement and her assurance that God was watching over us and would help us through our struggles. Not her God. Not my God. Our God.

“My daughter and I were walking to the metro one day and were kindly offered a ride by an Emirati woman, who shared with us experiences about her son who had medical difficulties that required them to travel to the United States for treatment. In the course of her story, her faith in and reliance on God’s will and watchful care was interwoven. I told her I would pray for her and her family, which she accepted with understanding and love.

“When I talked with a Hindu mom whose children my daughter tutored, I heard how central her faith and belief were to her as she told me about how she spends her day in meditation and worship.

“I never once felt uncomfortable being a Christ-believing, God-fearing woman in Dubai. On the contrary, I felt encouraged and strengthened for my beliefs by those I came in contact with. I have not experienced this so universally in any other place I have lived.” —Carol

Unity

“We [should] exercise our influence civilly and peacefully within the framework of our constitutions and applicable laws. On contested issues, we should seek to moderate and unify.” —President Dallin H. Oaks (general conference, Apr. 2021)

As we strive to be one in Christ, what is one way you can share your influence to unify your community?

Becoming A Father

“The role of father is of divine origin, beginning with a Father in Heaven. … We honor those who do all that can be done in love, patience, and self-sacrifice to meet individual and family needs.” —Elder D. Todd Christofferson (general conference, Apr. 2016)

Happy Father’s Day!

“I reiterate my call to members of the Church everywhere to abandon attitudes and actions of prejudice and to promote respect for all of God’s children. This is a hallmark of all true followers of Jesus Christ.

“Abandoning prejudice must go well beyond what we say at the pulpit. We also need to abandon hurtful and insensitive comments in our conversations, in our private messages to one another and on social media, and, most importantly, in our own hearts. This will happen as we fully embrace the teachings of the Savior Jesus Christ, who said, ‘Love one another; as I have loved you’ (John 13:34).”—President Russell M. Nelson

Earlier this week, the Church announced a collaboration with NAACP and UNCF to work together on academic- and philanthropic-focused plans designed to assist and bless those in need. #Juneteenth

“Being a father has taught me more than I ever anticipated about my relationship with my earthly father and my Heavenly Father.

“In so many ways, being a father was not as I anticipated. For starters, our family is not what you would call ‘traditional.’ We have adopted all six of our incredible children. They each came to us in different and unique ways, and they have each taught us in different and unique ways. I am so thankful I get to be their father. Being a father has helped me to learn more about Heavenly Father’s love for me. As I see the fierce and beautiful love I have for my children, I realize that God has that same love for His children (and His love is magnified, I’m certain).

“Fatherhood has changed how I think about other people. I believe now, more than ever, that each one of us is a child of heavenly parents who love us deeply.” —Dave

“I am a divorced father of five absolutely incredible children. They are my everything. They are what motivates me to be my best.

“I’ve found that my strength as a father and my ability to be there for my kids have come from keeping my promises with God. As I remain faithful to my covenants, I can receive promptings and guidance on how to communicate with them when I know they need help.

“One night my oldest daughter felt that she needed to talk to me about my younger daughter because she felt that she was struggling. Together we discussed and prayed about what to say. We sat down together with her and openly communicated, and it was amazing—there was so much light and peace and calm. She told me that she had been praying to understand some things and saw this as a direct answer to prayer—to just talk through it all. A few weeks later she texted me in the middle of the night and told me about a scripture she read that meant a lot to her. I realized that because I took the time to listen to my older daughter’s prompting and acted on it, it opened the door for my children to talk to me about spiritual topics. I always have Him—my Father—to rely on, and I need to be that for them.” —Brian

“Four years ago, we were living comfortably in Boston. Then my wife and I had this strong prompting to move closer to family. It was a big leap of faith for us to make that change. I essentially had to start over in my career to make it happen.

“About a year after we moved, our oldest daughter was diagnosed with leukemia.

“Having my family nearby to support us during such a difficult time was like manna from heaven. They were there to take care of our younger daughter while we were at the hospital for days at a time. They supported us through every difficult step with service, love, and a listening ear.

“Fathers are ‘supposed’ to be strong, and I’m learning, for me, that strength comes through faith. I learned that the prompting from four years ago wasn’t about me and my career. It was about taking care of our family and about what I needed to do as a father to help my daughter. I’m learning that as I constantly seek to #HearHim, He will sustain and guide me and my loved ones in ways that I didn’t even think to ask for.” —Jarom
