Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church was first organized as the Myrtle Street Baptist Church in the home of Rev. M. G. Solomon at 5351 Edgewood Street, Dallas, Texas. Rev. Solomon was led to organize Myrtle Street Baptist Church along with thirteen charter members. In 1939, on the third Sunday evening of July, Rev. Solomon was called as Pastor of the Myrtle Street Baptist Church. The church later moved to the garage of Mrs. Pearl Allen Robertson on Easton Street and remained there until October 1940. In February 1950, the church, which later became Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church, moved to the corner of former Oakland Avenue and Marburg Street, which is now Malcolm X Boulevard. During Pastor Solomon’s illness in the mid-70’s and into late April of 1978, he invited Rev. Hosea Tyrone Epps and later Rev. B. Thorpe to assist him in carrying the services. On November 18th, 1978, Rev. M.G. Solomon was called home. After much prayer, on March 2nd, 1979, Rev. W. G. Gillespie, who at the time was the Pastor of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, was called by Oak Hill members to be Pastor. In April of 1983, Rev. Hosea T. Epps became the Pastor of Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church and is still the Pastor after 24 years of service. In the summer of 2006, Pastor Epps invited Rev. Corey F. Jackson to be the Presiding Minister of Oak Hill. On December 2nd, 2007, Rev. Epps ordained Rev. Corey F. Jackson and requested that the Oak Hill Church would accept him as their new Pastor. Currently the Rev. Jackson serves as Pastor.
Mission: It is our mission to allow the light of God to shine in a sea of darkness that covers this world, so that lost souls may be found, captives will be set free, yokes would be broken, and that the wandering may come to The Solid Rock on which we stand. Therefore we are committed to being a Bible based, Christ centered Church, providing ministries that will enrich, promote, enlighten, transform, and motivate the soul to follow God’s Will and become active for the Master.
