Grow in faith and service with historic St. Paul United Methodist Church, The Soul of the Arts District. Rev. Richie L. Butler, Senior Pastor.
The only church in downtown Dallas rooted in African-American traditions of worship, St. Paul is the sole survivor of what was, for over a century, a neighborhood of monumental black churches. The congregation that greets you today is the same community that has worshiped on this very site since its establishment by a visionary body of recently freed slaves in 1873. From its founding in a brush arbor to its current landmark standing as the oldest community presence in what has become the Dallas Arts District, St. Paul has remained committed to the spiritual disciplines of prayer, fasting, tithing, and Bible study. There is no greater testimony to the power of prayer than the fact that, where here God planted a church in 1873, here we remain. Come grow in faith and service with us, and loose the power of our timeless faith in your own life. If you come for Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., you'll never be late for church at 10:45 a.m. Even if you're late for Sunday School, you'll still be on time for church.
Mission: The Mission of St. Paul United Methodist Church is to be a diverse Christian Community that utilizes the Arts in proactively building the Kingdom of God by seeking and making disciples for Jesus Christ through nurture and care, outreach and evangelism, and witness and worship…ALL to the Glory of God.
dfw.cbslocal.com One of the oldest historically black communities of Dallas still has traces of its imprint attached to present-day Dallas, but most may not have seen its origin.
libertywritersafrica.com Humanity owes the Black race a lot of apologies for stealing her achievements and denying her ingenuity. As we dig more and more into Black history, we are surprised to find that the Black race has contributed immensely to the progress of humanity.

You may have driven past it a hundred times and never even noticed, but the St. Paul United Methodist Church has 5 different shades of brick that were used for its construction. Their congregation has been meeting at this very location dating all the way back to 1873. Construction on this building began in 1901 and took 26 years to complete due to the intense financial disparity which the Black Community faced during that time. Members of the congregation would bring what bricks they could afford as offerings during Sunday services. Next time you find yourself in the Dallas Arts District, pause and take the time to appreciate the visible reminder the exterior of this building represents; a determined congregation that persevered and saw through to completion their great house of worship.

Our fervent prayers are with the Evans Family during this time. We believe God with you for His will to be done in the life of Mrs. Evans.
Yesterday, I shared a heartfelt video with the church I pastor about my wife, Lois. I'd like to share a portion of that video update here with you, our extended virtual ministry family.
Will you join me in praying that the Lord will give Lois great peace at this time? We continue to believe in the power of prayer and do not underestimate God’s power to heal, nor do we deny his ability to comfort hurting hearts. Please pray specifically with us that God would either heal Lois or take her home. We do not want her to live in pain.
Also pray that God will give us, as her family, grace, wisdom, and comfort as we walk with my wife through this season. Your prayers are appreciated and needed. They mean a lot to me, and to all of us, right now.
I realize that many of you want to know how you can encourage me and my family as we care for my wife. Please know that you have already done so much by sharing your love, your concern, and your support.
What would encourage my heart this Christmas season is to know that you are spending time with the people you love and not wasting the time God has given you to live on things that really don’t matter. Most importantly, what brings my heart joy is to know that you are remembering and honoring the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is my hope in spite of life’s challenges.
One great comfort to me during these difficult days is to know that Lois and I, along with our children, have made the most of the time we have together. We continue to do so even now and desire for you to do the same.
I will continue to share with you as I can and let you know how you can help in the coming days. But for today, I want to thank you for your love and care. On behalf of myself and my family, we wish you a blessed and a very merry Christmas.
