Leader 2 Leader - A Leadership Lesson From The Texas Tornadoes

Disaster can often strike unpredictably. Great leaders are prepared when disasters come their way. How do you prepare for disaster? Yesterday was a tough day in the D-FW area as storms and tornadoes ripped through our area causing extensive damage. Twice our building had to be evacuated into the lower level parking garage. Both times, after about 30 minutes, we were able to return to our desks and resume work. I suspect this sce...

Lessons from the NBA's shortest player

Read what Jim Denison was thinking as he watched the Mavs take on the Rockets.

If you didn't catch the CEL guest blog earlier this week on Baylor basketball sensation Brittney Griner, hop on over to our website for a few more lessons from the court. Earl Boykins stands 5'5" tall and weighs 133 pounds. By contrast, the Rockets' starting center is 6'11" and weighs 250 pounds. It's no surprise that Boykins was not drafted by an NBA team after college. It is a surprise that he's now played 12 years in the league with 12 different teams.

Midpoint & Beyond - What are you doing to improve?

What are YOU doing to improve? If you're not improving, can you still be relevant to your organization or your market? In this short blog, Bill talks about this question and what it means to Christian leadership.

What would be your answer? The challenge of change is in front of us every minute. In order to meet this ever-present reality, effective leaders are always looking for ways to improve. They read, attend conferences, and are aware of the culture around them. Because effective leaders want to get better, they are seeking ways t...

Seen Brittney Griner in action? Here's a quick 3 pointer on leadership we can take from the queen of slam dunks.

Be sure to check out the Baylor University photos linked below to catch a glimpse of Griner and the Lady Bears on the court.

The Lady Bears rolled passed Georgia Tech in their Sweet Sixteen match. Brittney Griner threw-down a two-handed dunk in the win. The team has one day to prepare for a re-match with the Tennessee Lady Vols in the Elite Eight.

Leader 2 Leader - Ron Paul For President? Why is Ron Paul running for president? I mean, really, the man has no chance of winning and I think he knew that before he started the race. Why is he doing it? I think it’s a well known fact that politicians are a different breed; most of them are somewhat narcisstic and enjoy the continual spotlig...

Midpoint & Beyond - Star Trek Leadership Lessons: Part 2

Earlier this week, Bill shared the Star Trek Leadership Lessons from Captain Kirk. Well, now it's Picard's turn. Who's the better captain? Who's the better leader? Who faced the greatest challenges?

Drop by our website, Trekkies, and let us know what you decide! In a previous blog I mentioned Captain James T. Kirk facing Vulcans, Klingons, and Romulans. And while they are a formidable challenge, they dim when facing the Borg. This seemingly unstoppable enemy was faced and dealt with by Captain Jean-Luc Picard. (I have faced a Borg challenge or two in leader...

Guest Blog - 3 Ways Mission Trips Equip Leaders

Mission teams are out in full force this Spring Break! Do your teams know that in serving others, they're becoming leaders, too? Here are 3 ways missions make leaders--what can you add? Anything to add? I can still hear my sister’s advice the first day I came home from middle school whining about some girl who didn’t think I wore enough make up to be pretty. My huffs and sighs and over-the-top worries seem silly now, but her advice was pure wisdom: “Get over yourself!”

Midpoint & Beyond - Star Trek Leadership Lessons

What did James T. Kirk know about leadership? Read Bill's latest blog to find out! Unless, of course, you can only read Klingon. I find that leaders are readers. And, yes, I believe that leaders need to be readers. By being a reader you will find leadership principles in a variety of places. Leadership principles are available for us to learn from scripture, history, biographies, and even fiction. So, when someone in our offi...

Midpoint & Beyon - Strategy is important, but . . .

Bill's latest blog. Strategy is great, but it takes more than strategy to carry out a plan. Take a few minutes to read, and let us know what you think! I had spent time with this group of caring, intelligent, systematic people working on a strategy for their organization. We were in the final meeting. I was ready to hand their strategy off to them. It was time to pull the trigger. The list of next steps was before them . . . and they couldn't take ...

Leader 2 Leader - The Difference in Anxiety and Stress

What is the difference between anxiety and stress? Ron's latest blog separates the two terms and suggests new ways for leaders to view them.

How do stress and anxiety differ to you? How do they affect your leadership? Let us know here or on our blog! The words anxiety and stress are often used in an interchangeable way, and yet in reality, I think they are quite different. The dictionary defines anxiety as "distress or uneasiness of mind caused by a form of danger or misfortune". Fear can be a common factor in anxiety. The dictionary defines str...
