Proud member of Lakewood United Methodist Church
GREAT sermon message this past Sunday!
Great recent album find -- and the cover pic of him is lenticular 3D!
Great costumes at the Halloween Trunk Or Treat party this year!
Once again I had a blast spinning tunes for the Trunk Or Treat party!
On September 30, I will be doing a sermon called Tackling Tough Questions, where I directly address some of your tough questions about faith, the Bible, or anything religion based. So, in order for that to work, please send me whatever you are pondering by Sept. 23 - you can either reply to this or send me a private message. I will include as many as I can, and save the rest (and any I get after the 23rd) for the next round - something I plan to do every time a 5th Sunday of the month rolls around!
Gotta love a church that welcomes dogs on Sunday morning...
Lucy is ready for the livestream! 😀
This is a wonderful, beautiful church with lovely people who are friendly and open-minded but strong in their faith.

Join us for our last Lent study on prayer at 1pm today! Lectio Divina is latin for sacred reading, and is a method of prayerfully experiencing scripture. There are a series of steps that we will learn about and then put into practice as we pray with Bible passages about Palm Sunday and Jesus’s passion. Not only will this give you one more tool to benefit your prayer life, but it will also give you an opportunity to reflect even deeper on the stories that provide the foundation of this week leading up to Easter Sunday.

Lent Study today at 1pm! (Joining instructions below) While many of our prayers do not include any preparation or notes, there is a long Christian tradition of using prayer books. These can give us the words to say when we don’t know what to say and guide us through a regular rhythm of prayer. We will learn how to navigate a prayer book, compare different ones, and learn about their history (including how structured daily prayer has been encouraged in Methodism since the origins of our movement).

Lent study week 4 - centering prayer

Join our Lent Study today at 1pm - This week's topic is Centering Prayer. Centering prayer is a form of silent meditation. Whether that sounds wonderful or terrifying to you, there is likely benefit in trying it out. The process of centering ourselves, even outside of formal meditation, can help ease anxiety and lead us all back to what is really important in our lives. We will spend some time learning about different methods of meditation, you will have a chance to select a centering phrase that is meaningful to you, and we will have a peaceful time centering ourselves through meditation.

Lent study week 3 - Labyrinths

Welcome to all! Today we explore the role of our bodily experience in prayer in a way that can hopefully move us from posturing to a healing posture.

We will begin worship in 30 minutes and hope you will join us! Until then, here is a copy of the bulletin and affirmation of faith. We will change a few things as we adapt to the circumstance, one of which is singing just the first verse of each hymn - if you do not have a hymnal at home, you can find those hymns at these links: UMH 127 Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah -http://gbod.org.s3.amazonaws.com/legacy/kintera/entry_14037/66/guideme.pdf

Lakewood United Methodist Church, Dallas

Dear church,

In efforts to safeguard the health of all members of our community, especially those who are most vulnerable and high risk, and to prevent any unintentional spread of the coronavirus, we will be worshiping online only this Sunday and suspending all church events the next two weeks.

Sunday morning worship instructions are below, and the following events are cancelled:
March 15 and 22
Morning Communion
Sunday School
Lent Study – I will also live stream my presentation of this on Facebook at the normal time (1pm), and the recording will be saved for viewing at any time.
Messy Church

March 16
Dove Notes

March 28
Reconciling Ministries Network Potluck (will be rescheduled)

Here is how worship will work:
• Check back here at 10:30am you should see a video appear as a live stream.
• John and I will lead you through worship, and you can find an image of the bulletin in the post right before the video goes live.
• There will be music, but we may adapt the hymns we do - more info will be posted Sunday.
• Please share any comments you would like during the live stream – especially any prayer requests you would like to offer. And you can share this link with anyone you know who needs a “virtual” church to attend in this uncertain time.

This was not an easy decision to make, as our time together in worship is so important, but in light of the most trustworthy medical recommendations and the guidelines from both the City of Dallas and our North Texas Conference of the UMC, we believe this is the best way to prevent harm and do good.

For those on Trustees and Church Council committees – please watch for a decision on meetings scheduled for March 16 to be emailed to you directly. If we are unable to meet in person, we may look for a way to meet by phone or computer.

We will reassess the situation next week and will let you know any updates to our plans. Until then, please do all you can to stay safe and protect the health of those around you!

Lakewood UMC is a Reconciling Congregation located in Dallas! We invite you to worship with us on Sunday mornings at 10:30.

Lent Study Week 2: Ignatian Prayer

Sometimes it can be hard to really “feel it” in prayer - for whatever reason our heart is not in it. Today we explore what to do in that state. And we have some truly heartfelt music to inspire us along the way.

Lent study week 1 - The Lord's Prayer

We start our series on prayer with one of the true classics-the Lord’s Prayer. We will find out how it can guide us when we don’t know what to say in prayer. Plus, Rayley’s baptism and communion!

Ash Wednesday

Sometimes our journeys go through the uncertainty of night, but we have hope to light our way - hope from the past, present, and future. Join us as we seek out that light today.

Come gather with us around a simple candle (symbolically...or literally if you have one where you are) as we allow the light of Christ to illumine the Spirit of God within us, so that we can better celebrate that Spirit of God in our neighbors.

What does it really mean to be salt and light in this world? Join us as we explore that question together and as we are inspired by some really good music!

Join us as we explore wisdom that connects us with the humble love of God.

How can we really find unity amid all the differences and disagreements of our time? A unity that takes seriously injustice and draws us into peace? Perhaps it goes beyond common ground or shared mission to the sacramental center of gravity in our faith and world.

Jesus shines a spotlight of blessing on those who are not often honored. Join us today as we learn about those blessings and seek to do the same.

On this baptism of the Lord Sunday, we examine what we are baptized for. And Isaiah helps us see that we are baptized for doing no harm and doing good.

We have one more week of Messy Church for All coming up in about 30 minutes. For those watching at home, here are the centers if you would like to join us!

Messy church for all! Today we are bringing Messy Church format to our morning worship to experience the messiness of Jesus’s early life in some interactive ways. Instructions for centers are in the previous post if you want to follow along!

Messy Church for All starts in about 30 minutes! We will live stream the worship service, and attached here are the instructions for the centers for anyone who would like to "play" along with us.

Merry Christmas! Join us for words, songs, and a story to treasure in your heart.

[12/24/19]   Candlelight Christmas Eve service tonight at 5:30pm!

Today we hear, see, and explore the dawn from on high that will break upon us! Join us for great music and a walk through some of Rembrandt paintings to shed light on our Advent journey.

As we gather during this long night, we will hold in holy remembrance those whom we have lost and any reason we feel loss or pain. As we sing and pray and commune, we will find God in the brokenness, a God who is our ever present light and guide.
