In our 10:00 service, this past Sunday our outstanding choir and organist were joined by the Concert Bells of Fort Worth to highlight our musical offerings in our parish.

The opening hymn is one to reflect on this week as we worship God through music. See the full text of the hymn below.

A special thanks to Derrick, Jane, and all of our choir members for another great week of music at St. James.

When in our music God is glorified,
and adoration leaves no room for pride,
it is as though the whole creation cried,
Hallelujah!

How often, making music, we have found
a new dimension in the world of sound,
as worship moved us to a more profound
Hallelujah!

So has the church, in liturgy and song,
in faith and love, through centuries of wrong,
borne witness to the truth in every tongue:
Hallelujah!

And did not Jesus sing a Psalm that night
when utmost evil strove against the Light?
Then let us sing, for whom he won the fight:
Hallelujah!

Let every instrument be tuned for praise!
Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise!
And may God give us faith to sing always:
Hallelujah! Amen.

Whatever is foreseen in joy
Must be lived out from day to day.
Vision held open in the dark
By our ten thousand days of work.
Harvest will fill the barn; for that
The hand must ache, the face must sweat.

And yet no leaf or grain is filled
By work of ours; the field is tilled
And left to grace. That we may reap,
Great work is done while we’re asleep.

When we work well, a Sabbath mood
Rests on our day, and finds it good

Wendell Berry

Yesterday we remembered the work and contribution of laborers to the develpoment and achievements of the United States. Today, as many of us return to work after a day off yesterday, let this poem remind us of the need for rest and the work that is done in our rest.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30

“When we work well, we stand confident in the promise that the world does not depend on us, but instead we make a joyful contribution as we can, and then rejoice in rest.” - Common Good Collective
