A short read and a simple challenge that will go a long way to helping students at St. James feel welcomed.

A short read and a simple challenge.

We are excited to announce the addition of Fr. Donald J. (D.J.) Griffin to the staff of St. James. Fr. D. J. will be serving as our Associate Rector beginning February 3.

Fr. D.J. comes to us having served most recently as the Vicar of Church of the Savior in Allen, TX, but his roots in the Diocese of Dallas are deep. A native of Rockwall, Texas, Fr. D. J. and his family were members of Holy Trinity by the Lake Episcopal Church, where he first perceived a call to the priesthood as a teenager.

His education includes a degree in Religious Studies from the University of Oklahoma and a Masters of Divinity from Nashotah House Theological Seminary in Wisconsin. In addition to his time at Church of the Savior Fr. D.J. has served at churches in Texas and North Carolina.

Fr. D. J. is passionate about Anglican liturgy, music, and theology, and is a devotee of C.S. Lewis. He and his wife, Sam, enjoy reading, playing board games, and sharing a cup of coffee or tea together.

Make plans to join us in welcoming Fr. D. J. and Sam to St. James on Sunday, February 9, their first Sunday with us.

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas

Thank you to all of the children and families who participated in the pageant. You helped tell the beautifully chaotic, wonderfully messy, true story of God with us, and you did it so well!

Joy to the world, the Lord has come. We are celebrating again at 7 with spectacular music and the story of the nativity, and at 10 for a reverent candlelight mass. Join us!

Join us this Christmas Eve.

Repairs to the walls and ceiling of the church are in full swing, but it’s still Sunday! We are all set up to worship together in the Parish Hall.

Join us this morning at 8 or 10 am!

Due to the extensive restoration and painting happening in the church services will be held in the Parish Hall for the next few weeks.

This work will not have an impact on our regular worship times, though it will cause us to put Fr Michael and Deacon Phil's Sunday Morning Classes on hold until the work is complete.

It’s 6:00 pm on a Wednesday night, do you know where your Senior Warden is?

Give it up for Kenneth Lawrence!

We had a wonderful opportunity to spend some time with our friends at Austin Street Center and learn about how they are growing their ministry to people experiencing homelessness. It was great to get a more in depth look at a ministry we have been partnering with for so long. Look for the Austin Street table at Rally Day this Sunday to learn more about their work and how you can get involved.

Celebrating the 1 year anniversary of Fr. Michael’s ministry at St. James!

White Rock Coffee, White Rock Center of Hope, and our Students had a busy morning. Thanks again to Tee Toh for feeding us these last three days!

We started off by meeting at the church and heading to White Rock Center of Hope. They were not expecting us so early so we went to White Rock Coffee where I got a hot apple cider. Then we returned to White Rock Center of Hope where we met Mrs. Patty who gave us a tour of the center and instructed us on putting together bags of food for their clients. We finished that and returned to the church for lunch which was provided by Tee Toh. I am thankful to have been able to help people this week

See what our students were up to today!

update: we got the final count this morning and found out we helped to provide groceries for 1,113 families in our eight hours of service yesterday.

For the city 2019 is wrapping up the longest day of our week at Inspired Vision Compassion Center where we helped provide groceries to 1113 families. Everything from fresh produce to canned goods to meat and beverages. There were clients lined up to receive groceries when we arrived just after 8:30 this morning and there were still a few people coming through the line at 5:00pm when we started wrapping out. Our students were continually praised and thanked for their hard work today by staff and regular volunteers alike.

I am proud of the ways this great group of students responded to a long hot day.

Our student ministry had the blessing of serving at Our Saviour Community Gardens and Pleasant Grove Food Pantry (PGFP) today. Read about one students view of our work below.

“Today we went to pick peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, beans, and pears at Our Saviour Community Garden. I really liked cutting the peppers in the farm and taking pictures with the flowers. Then we went to the Pleasant Grove Food Pantry to take the produce we picked and see the process of getting food.” -Gyo Gyo

We are getting ready for day 2!

We just wrapped up day 1 of For the City, our summer mission experience at home, and had a great time. We grabbed cheese fries, chips, salsa, and queso at Cafe Brazil where we had a brief discussion of being open to receiving even as we are giving before working at Feed My Starving Children in Richardson packing meals to be shipped to Jamaica. Once our hair nets were on and we were oriented we worked non stop to fill bags with rice, soy, vitamins, and vegetables.

Happy Fourth of July!! Ready for the LH Exchange Club Parade!!!

Wishing a Happy Father's Day to you!
