The Bridge Ministry bridges the gap to help young adults understand the roles of the church. So that they too can become effective church leaders.
Mission: The Bridge is ministry of the Steven Temple Church of God in Christ for young adults. The Bridge strives to strengthen faith, intimacy and commitment to Jesus. As a bridge connects two land masses, the ministry will serve as a place for young adults to connect with Jesus and learn how to close the generation gap in our congregation. Learning through God’s word how to understand His call and purpose, while applying practical principles of God’s Word to yield a victorious Christian life is our desired destination for all. The Bridge ministry consists of worship, teaching to make disciples, and equipping for service within and outside the church. The Bridge is a place where you can be loved, encouraged, challenged and accepted for who you are – where you are!
Goal Setting requires taking a look at the past in order to set a course or direction for the future. This involves some essential actions:
Review and Reflect ( what has been working; what has not been working; where are opportunities for change and growth)
Rejoice and Celebrate the progress you have made thus far and the blessings of God in your life in order to fuel your hope and develop an attitude of thanksgiving.
Renew a commitment to His plan for your life, leaving yourself open to His Will, His way, and His timing.
Relate your goals to an accountability partner whom you trust to tell you truth and to refocus you if you get off course.
Rehearse (Meditate on) and Affirm what you are praying to achieve according to God’s promises and the wisdom/ power of His Spirit operating in your life.
More to come on goal setting. Blessings.
God-Infused Goal Setting Lessens My FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)
The beginning of the year is always a time of reflection, review, and planning. We discard or let go of those things that are not productive or fruitful. We open ourselves up to new, fresh things that can move us toward greater personal growth and development.
I personally don’t make “resolutions” because in my mind, “resolutions” speak to my own self sufficiency and self reliance, making me solely responsible for causing things to happen in my own power and strength. (Why not? Too hard, too stressful, and a real joy killer for me)
As a Christian, I know this is not true or wise. God’s sovereignty and providential Will are always involved in my life (Jeremiah 29:11)- and I welcome them. Jesus is the author and finisher of my faith so to make plans without Him is just not an option for me.
God tells us to plan ( Proverbs 6:6-11 and 16:9; Luke 14:28; Matthew 6:33; Psalm 20:4) BUT leave the door and our hands open so that His good, acceptable, and perfect Will can prevail.
Planning infused with His guidance and truth lessens a sense of FOMO in me because success for me means being and becoming all that He created and purposed me to be. I don’t need to look to the left or to the right, comparing my journey with someone else’s, because He has a unique path carved out just for me.
Of course, that doesn’t negate my responsibility and accountability because not only am I a partaker of Jesus’ inheritance, but I am also a collaborator, an instrument, a disciple, and an imitator of His. In order to do these things in a manner pleasing to Him, I must choose daily to surrender and cooperate, following His leading and prompting.
I purposefully remember that He is the Creator, I am the created. He is the potter, I am the clay. As I abide in Him, He abides in me. As I rest in Him, He provides what is needed to maximize my potential for personal growth and kingdom service.
The Divine Exchange didn’t stop at the Cross; it is at work daily in our lives if we allow it. And as for me- His eternal wisdom for my earthbound, limited thoughts and plans. His expansive- into the heavenlies vision- for my right in front of me circumstantially based, blurry sight lines. His power for all of my weakness(es). His grace and mercy always present to cover me when I need it and surely don’t deserve it (that’s at all times in all situations, in case you didn’t know. I’m a needy person- in a Christ centered way).
Goal setting should happen in every area of my life so that there is focus and clarity about direction. With that in place, I can course correct whenever I find myself off path.
So what are your goals in these areas of your life? Really- If you want wholeness, you must address the whole person, right? My areas of focus include:
- Emotional Wellness
- Mental Health and more of a Joy Filled, not Anxiety Producing Thought life
- Spiritual Growth ( yes- it’s key and should have been 1st on this list)
- Relational Productivity
- Financial Stability in the Short and Long Term
- Intellectual Development and Capacity Building
- Career and Professional Competence
- Physical Fitness
As I plan, I ask myself-
Is Jesus at the center of each of these or is He an add on or after thought?
Is He free to make revisions and adjustments or am I expecting Him to bless my plans while remaining silent and inactive as I do my own thing, my own way?
I’m setting aside time to be still, cease striving, and sit down with Jesus to figure things out. Do you want to join me? Your choice.
More to come on goal setting. Blessings.
[01/08/20] The Bridge will meet this evening at 7 pm in the church fellowship hall with Sis. Marian Gorden. Please plan to attend as we appreciate her giving of time, effort, and service while I am recuperating. I know she has a word for your soul. Blessings.

Know Your Status: A Study of Personality Type
If you had to choose a Biblical character that best describes you, would it be Abraham, Moses, Peter or Paul? We can’t make ourselves something we aren’t, we can only work on refining the weaknesses. When you really know that God made you a certain personality -- make it a daily choice to be true to yourself, you were born for greatness!

The Message (MSG)
24-24 I want you to know how glad I am that it’s me sitting here in this jail and not you. There’s a lot of suffering to be entered into in this world—the kind of suffering Christ takes on. I welcome the chance to take my share in the church’s part of that suffering. When I became a servant in this church, I experienced this suffering as a sheer gift, God’s way of helping me serve you, laying out the whole truth.
26-29 This mystery has been kept in the dark for a long time, but now it’s out in the open. God wanted everyone, not just Jews, to know this rich and glorious secret inside and out, regardless of their background, regardless of their religious standing. The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message. We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the Message. We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity. To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less. That’s what I’m working so hard at day after day, year after year, doing my best with the energy God so generously gives me.
