"See all living beings as your father or mother, and love them as if you were their child.
Always keep a smiling face and a loving mind, and speak truthfully without malice."
- Advice from Atisha's Heart

When we approach situations from a place of inner peace, we have the ability to respond with a calm and clear mind. We can cultivate inner peace and practice maintaining that mind through meditation and mindfulness. As we become more familiar with our meditation practice and how it feels to have a peaceful mind, we gain confidence in our ability to handle any negative situation, emotion, or person.
Join us today or tomorrow for Lunchtime Meditation. Our guided meditation will help you cultivate inner peace to take with you as you continue your day! Everyone is welcome!

Clarity of Mind

It may seem like we must follow negative thoughts and other narratives that arise in our minds, but we don't have to go along for that ride. During meditation, we can simply watch our mind and see thoughts arise and dissolve, almost as if we were watching our thoughts on a movie screen. We can ask ourselves, "Is this a beneficial thought or a non-beneficial thought?" As we continue to practice observing our mind, we can see thoughts dissolve into the clear sky of our mind like clouds evaporating without becoming attached to them.

Join us tomorrow morning as Summer Grest leads our Morning Meditation class. Her guided meditation on Clarity of Mind will help you cultivate inner peace to take with you through your day! Everyone is welcome!

A WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL THING FOR OUR WORLD

Gen Kelsang Menla is Resident Teacher at KMC Texas. He has a unique perspective on NKT because his center arose from the direct presence of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, who lived in the Dallas area for several years sowing the seeds of Kadam Dharma in the USA. Gen Menla recently shared a heartfelt post on Facebook, which we reproduce here

I love how in the New Kadampa Tradition we are bonded together through love, truth, faith and respect.

It is such a beautiful example for our world that we are from so many cultures, with so many backgrounds, yet we are in harmony. We are strong together. Each of us is different but all connected. Like leaves on a tree, each unique, but all connected back through the branches and the trunk, to the deep roots of reliance upon our Spiritual Guide.

Venerable Geshe-la has done a wonderful, wonderful thing for our world. This international family is unprecedented for Kadampa Buddhism. Proud to be a part of it!

If you don't know much about us, check us out. Everyone welcome!

How do you deal with strong emotions? You may want to avoid conflict or you may want to jump in. Whichever you tend to do, one thing to know is that the mind and emotions are powerful. Through Buddhist meditation we can harness the power of the mind and direct it along a positive path. We can undermine our critical thinking and find an inner peace free from negativity.

“When the sea is rough, sediment is churned up and the water becomes murky, but when the wind dies down the mud gradually settles and the water becomes clear. In a similar way, when the otherwise incessant flow of our distracting thoughts is calmed through concentrating on the breath, our mind becomes unusually lucid and clear. We should stay with this state of mental calm for a while.”

Who is Buddha Maitreya?
.
He is the embodiment of the loving kindness of all the Buddhas. At the time of Buddha Shakyamuni he manifested as a Bodhisattva disciple in order to show Buddha’s disciples how to be perfect Mahayana disciples. In the future, he will manifest as the fifth founding Buddha in this world and turn the Wheel of Dharma for living beings.
.
In the shrine at the World Peace Temple in Brazil, you can see Buddha Kashyapa, the third Buddha, and Buddha Maitreya seated side by side with Buddha Shakyamuni.

"Delusions are distorted ways of looking at ourself, other people, and the world around us - like a distorted mirror, the reflect a distorted world."
- Geshe Kelsang Gyatso from How to Transform Your Life

Within all of us is our own source of happiness and peace, but we know from experience that it is difficult to maintain a continually joyful and peaceful mind. We can gain an experience of inner peace through the spiritual practice of meditation and gradually reduce and eliminate our delusions, our negative, disturbed states of mind. Join us this week for a gentle meditation or more in-depth class! Everyone is welcome!

"Our present mind is like a wild elephant that is out of control and difficult to tame...If we pacify our wild mind, we will gain control and thereby attain freedom from our present problems...Negative thoughts may still arise, but they will have no power over us..."

Excerpt from
Universal Compassion by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

When we experience discomfort, it may seem like our only choice is to follow the path to anger or frustration. If we practice observing our thoughts, we have the opportunity to follow a different path...one that leads to patience and compassion. Living in the Present Moment - Kadam Lucy James

Life is Like a Dream: A Public Talk
Saturday, June 13

Buddha taught that everything depends upon our mind- ourselves, other people, our experiences and reality itself. For example, we all know how relative time can be. It can drag on or fly by! In this special evening talk Kadam Lucy James will show logically and practically how things do not exist from their own side but are dream-like projections of the mind.

This talk has the power to truly set you free!
