Fireside Drive Baptist Church

[06/09/17]   For those of you that have not been made aware, the final service of Fireside Drive Baptist Church will be held Sunday, June 18th at 11am.

The church is closing as Fireside, but with God's grace, will reopen once future leadership is determined.

If you would like to attend, we would love to have you. As always, everyone is welcome at Fireside.

[04/23/17]   Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
– John 1:16-17 (NIV)

Two men were walking down the road to Emmaus when they encountered a
stranger who joined them. As this person talked about the Scripture, their minds were opened and their hearts began to burn with passion for God and his purposes. To their surprise, this stranger was Jesus in his resurrected form! When we trust in the risen Christ, the Bible comes alive to us as well. The God of the Bible can make the Bible of God a life changing experience.

[03/17/17]   But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
– Luke 5:16 (NIV)

If this is the pattern of Jesus, how much more should this be a pattern in our lives. Are you able to find a lonely place to pray? Suzanna Wesley had ten children in a small home. Her only lonely place to pray was to throw her apron over her head. Her children knew that when she did this, she was before the throne of God. Her sons, Charles and John Wesley changed the
world with the gospel. What could happen if we found a lonely place to pray?

[03/02/17]   Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
– Psalm 43:5 (NIV)

It is one thing to praise God when things are going well, but to focus on heaven when things fall apart brings a challenge that only a heart that is after God can fulfill. The Psalmist reminds us that praise is not conditioned upon our circumstances. It is so easy to try to use techniques with the underlying intent of getting something back. But God will test our hearts and, in his mercy, purify our motives to the point that our only agenda is to know Him. Make a decision to praise God in ALL things.

[02/22/17]   Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
– Matthew 6:34 (NIV)

Earlier in this passage Jesus assures his disciples that God knows their every need. If He feeds the birds of the air, will he not feed us? Then Jesus brings us the shocking truth: our anxiety is connected to doubt and unbelief! To worry about tomorrow is a sign that we dont trust our heavenly Father to take care of us. We are called to deal with the things of today and trust that the God who knows our name has our tomorrows in His hands. So anxiety or worry is a symptom of an unbelieving heart. How do we get rid of worry? Our answer comes with repentance, then realigning our heart with Gods promise to meet our needs. The promises in Matthew 6 alone have enough bread from heaven to sustain us in the midst of this troubled time.

[02/17/17]   It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.
– Philippians 1:15-16 (NIV)

The main motivation for preaching the gospel should be love, but there are those who use the role of preacher for the wrong reasons. Envy or competition can fuel the ambitions of many great speeches, but Paul is warning us to not be swayed by a dynamic personality. Demonstrating God’s love towards his people not only becomes the measuring tape of Christian leadership, it is also one of the greatest defenses of the gospel.

[02/15/17]   Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
– 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NIV)

How do you define love? For many of us, we define love as intense physical attraction or emotional bonding. But the Bible defines love very differently. In many ways, the Scriptural definition of love is not seen until things go wrong. Emotions come and go, but godly love equips us for when people test our patience. Godly love prefers others rather than focusing on ourselves. This Valentines Day make a decision to esteem your valentine over your own needs. When you do, your actions will speak louder than angels, gifts, or extravagant displays.

[12/09/16]   But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lions mouth.
– 2 Timothy 4:17 (NIV)

God does not leave us alone when we face overwhelming odds. Paul felt abandoned by others, but he was not separated from God. Paul knew that God had a purpose for him that was yet to be fulfilled, so Paul was able to stand strong even in the midst of incredible danger. This is the confidence that any man or woman who calls on Jesus should lean on—that God will give you strength, for He has a destiny for you to fulfill.

[11/20/16]   All a persons ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord.
– Proverbs 16:2 (NIV)

One of the metaphors for the Scripture is that of a mirror; when we look at Gods word, we are able to see our reflection more clearly. This proverb reminds us of what happens when we stop looking at that mirror, we forget what we really look like and can even deceive ourselves toward our actions! Pride, lust, and apathy can feel normal and unless we allow the Scripture to expose our ways, we will justify our behavior. We need more than a Bible study, we need our hearts to be transformed by the power of Gods word.

[11/09/16]   Give your love of justice to the king, O God, and righteousness to the king’s son. Help him judge your people in the right way; let the poor always be treated fairly.
– Psalm 72:1-2 (NIV)

This Psalm was written for King Solomon. Though the language is idealistic, the prayer is not. Solomon’s reign was birthed out of power plays and scandal, yet he became someone who God used to guide the nation of Israel.

May this be our prayer over the new president, and may the people of God be
a balm of healing to a nation that has been fractured from this election.

[10/13/16]   There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.
– Proverbs 14:12 (NIV)

It is important that we base our plans for the future upon what God values and not just on what we (or others) think is right. Instead of trying to determine what we think is the best path, take some time and seek after the wisdom of God in Scripture. You may find that the extra time that you spend in the planning stage is FAR less than the time you spend dealing with any disastrous results at the end.

[09/30/16]   Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare
with her.
– Proverbs 8:10-11 (NIV)

Do we see knowledge and instruction in this light? We are dazzled by the sparkle of fame and wealth, and as a result we can’t see the wisdom that stands at the crossroads of our soul. Yet godly wisdom is greater than any earthly wealth, for this kind of knowledge will heal and restore the damage of bad decisions that warp our perceptions. So choose and pursue this kind of instruction, because there is nothing that compares to it…nothing.
