Keeping the ‘community’ in Judaism - TJP News

Thank you to Harriet Gross for writing about her experience visiting Kehillat Chaverim in her Texas Jewish Post Column - In My Mind's I Last Shabbat morning, I deserted my Conservative home synagogue to attend a special event at Kehillat Chaverim, a group/place I knew nothing about before I was lucky enough to be invited. I consider that my background gives me the ability to participate with comfort in any Jewish setting. As a child...

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program

Kehillat Chaverim, a small, egalitarian, traditional minyan in North Dallas, is excited to offer bar/bat mitzvah classes for both youth and adults! The course of study is flexible, depending on the student’s background. We have enthusiastic instructors who are willing and able to structure a 6-8 month program designed to be educational and fulfilling, leading up to an individualized bar/bat mitzvah celebratory service. For more information, contact Joel Roffman at 214-517-9437 or [email protected]. Kehillat Chaverim offers both youth and adults the opportunity to observe their bar/bat mitzvah during a regular Shabbat morning service or a weekday service. The purpose of this offering is to allow those children and adults the opportunity to participate in this traditional Jewish lifecycle ceremo...

[05/19/14]   The following is from Joel Roffman.

Wow - what a day yesterday was for our Kehillah and for me personally!

I spoke in my D'var Torah about the "snapshot" I carry with me of my bar mitzvah - the moment during the service when I actually became a bar mitzvah. Now, you all have given me another one. After finishing the blessings following the haftorah, I looked up and soaked in a scene that I will carry with me forever. The entire room was filled (we had close to 40 people there!) with smiling faces - all looking at me - and singing, "sim'n tov . . . mazel tov . . ." So thank you for a priceless memory.

For those who do not come regularly, you certainly must know that we do not celebrate a 50th (oi!!) bar mitzvah anniversary every week. But you should know that we have a spirited and warm group of daveners who enjoy each other and enjoy lunch together every Saturday. I hope to see you back in the kehillah to celebrate our great gift of Shabbat. And I hope to see you often.

Thank you again for a very special day.

[05/16/14]   This Shabbat we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Joel's Bar Mitzvah. In honor of this special simcha, Joel and Nancy will be sponsoring and providing a special Kiddush lunch. We look forward to everyone joining us for this special day. The community is always welcome.

[05/02/14]   Kehillat Chaverim celebrates it's 1 year anniversary this Shabbat! Come daven and celebrate with us! It is amazing what this community has been able to accomplish. We look forward to a wonderful service including an entertaining and educational D'var Torah from Eli Baron. Shabbat Shalom!

[04/25/14]   Special treat this Shabbat - Fred Nathan will be celebrating the anniversary of his bar mitzvah. He will be giving the D'var Torah, entitled, "On being Holy: where Judaism Differs." Fred and Esther will be sponsoring our kiddush lunch. Please come and celebrate with us!

On Day 8 of Passover we will have Yom Tov services including Yitzkor beginning with Shacharit at 7:45 and ending at 9:15. The community is welcome.

The Kehillat Chaverim Cookbook is now available! The cookbook is available as a pdf document and can be be yours for a donation to the Kehilla. You decide the amount. Great article in the TJP about the cookbook and the Kehilla. Donation instructions are in the article.

[04/11/14]   Join us for Shabbat services at 10AM. Don Swartz will be celebrating the anniversary of his Bar Mitzvah. Arthur will be presenting the D'var Torah titled: "A Few Observations in Light of Recent Controversies." Services will be followed by a delicious Kiddish lunch sponsored by the Swartz's.

Shabbat Shalom!

Another great guide for Pesach preparation from Dallas Kosher. This is last year's guide but will be fine considering we are dealing with laws 4,000+ years old.

Time to get all that last minute shopping and preparations ready for Pesach. Here is a guide to help.
