What we saw play out at the U.S. Capitol on January 6 was an outgrowth of that divisive and deceptive rhetoric that had been fueled by at least four years of disinformation. An excerpt from "Go Forward" by Senior Bishop Lawrence Reddick. Read the entire message here. http://ow.ly/qNCr50D4o2R

Four years ago, about this time, I wrote President-Elect Donald Trump to congratulate him on his election as the 45th President of the United States of America, and to pledge to pray for him. I had not voted for him but believed then and now that it is right for Christians in our country to pray for and lift up our leaders. An excerpt from Make “Opening Up” a Loving and Caring Decision by Senior Bishop Reddick....It is not President Trump’s job to tell God’s churches when or how or why to worship. That is not any President’s or secular leader’s job. We agree with President Trump that worship is essential, and we urge him and all who lead us in the secular domain and in God’s churches to practice and model good worship. But we are also admonished by the Scriptures to be careful to not do the things that may harm our brothers and sisters. Read the entire message here http://ow.ly/G2vF50zOTS5

An excerpt from Senior Bishop Reddick's Easter Meditation.....Resurrection was for more than Jesus on Easter morning! (“Christ, the firstfruits” – 1 Corinthians 15:23.) It was for male and female disciples who had persisted in unbelief. It made them “run and tell”; ... it made them, ... participants in God’s business of resurrecting hopes and dreams and possibilities. Are we participating?

While we are “sheltered in” (and many of us are getting tired of it), remember that some do not have that luxury. Some are starving; some are homeless, some are wandering. For them the cross is a sign of God’s presence. There they feel God feeling us, without words. An excerpt from A Good Friday Holy Saturday Meditation by Senior Bishop Reddick. What more can we do? ...Imagine today - while you are stretching to see how much you can reach your people in this “shut in” time, while you are doing more than you thought you could do, using technology that you were afraid to use – imagine what ministries you can start when this is over so that you, too, will be declared “an essential site.” An excerpt from “An Essential Role… An Essential Site” A Palm Sunday Meditation by Senior Bishop Lawrence Reddick

It is interesting how we see cases so “black or white” and shout “We won!” or “We lost!” I take a different view now than I might have taken years ago: now I say, ALL of us lost. In some way, the whole community lost, and we will continue to lose unless we change drastically.

Read an excerpt from "After a General Conference", by Senior Bishop Lawrence Reddick.
After a General Conference, we begin a new quadrennium. We are in a state of “newness”: new themes, new emphases, new leadership on many levels, new plans and new expectations in many respects. “Behold,” says the Scripture, “I make all things new.” Let us all pray for the new aspects of the new quadrennium (four year period) to be God sent and God focused. Communion on the first day of July in 2018 might be a good way to start this new time!

Dear CME Family,
The outpouring of concern one week ago for the improved health of Bishop Graves was surpassed only by the fervent prayers of God’s people.
One week ago we were in Jamaica at the site of the Bishops’ Retreat. Bishop Graves had a medical emergency which required his hospitalization there. We rejoice to report he has improved greatly, so much so that he and Mrs. Graves were able to return to Memphis and their regular physicians.
In appreciation of your responses of concern and prayers, I’ve written this update. I’m sure they would appreciate your letters and cards. However, in consideration of their privacy and “space” for restoration and healing (and the fact that I have no authority to give medical assessments), I will refrain from future updates unless requested by Bishop or Mrs Graves.
Thank you for your gifts of love, prayer, and gentleness.
Sincerely,
+Lawrence Reddick
Senior Bishop
