For all in need or suffering from the impact of last week's tornado in north Texas: Father, the devastation remains, seen and unseen, without and within. Homes lost forever, hearts burdened with loss, worry, uncertainty. For those who are hurting, consumed by fear or sadness, overwhelmed with what's ahead or at hand, we ask for comfort, provision, guidance and HOPE; we pray for the community, church, business and public leaders to utilize their influence and resources the the best of their ability to serve these in need. May each of us who have hands, hearts, ability, time or money to give to reach out to our neighbor. We thank you for the Divine mercy that spared every life in the midst of horrific destruction, and we give offer both glory and praise for that mighty miracle. Father, as all rebuild, we pray you will use this tragedy to strengthen your people, to draw closer your children, to evidence your power, great love and endless mercy. May we and our leaders be lanterns of your light and bear the gift of your love through our service to all in need.
[03/21/19] Have you prayed for our leaders today? He's listening.
Amazing Grace filled the room this past Tuesday. Worship that brought 900 people out of their chairs, prayer and scripture that called us all to pray for and lift up our leaders with fervor, and a message from Michael Franzese that inspired, challenged and testified to the relentless and reckless Love that is Jesus.

MEET THE 61ST MAYOR OF DALLAS, MIKE RAWLINGS
Mike Rawlings came to Dallas in 1976 with a couple hundred dollars in his pocket and plans to work as a radio reporter. He didn’t think he’d stay long. But over the next four decades, Rawlings proved that Dallas is truly a city of opportunity. The Borger, Texas, native worked his way up from an entry-level position at TracyLocke, then the largest advertising agency in the South, to become the CEO. Later, he took the helm of the world’s largest pizza company, Pizza Hut, and grew it to record sales. Mayor Rawlings previously served as Chairman and Managing Partner of private equity firm CIC Partners, where he is currently the Vice Chairman. Public service has long been important to the 1976 Boston College graduate. He previously served as Chair of the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau, the city’s Homeless Czar and Park Board President, and he currently sits on the Jesuit College Preparatory Board of Trustees. Mayor Rawlings decided in early 2011 to run for Dallas Mayor on a platform that highlighted southern Dallas as the city’s greatest untapped resource. Following his June 2011 election, he launched GrowSouth, his signature initiative to spur economic development south of the Trinity River. He’s also fought to improve public education, combat poverty, revitalize Fair Park, develop the Trinity River corridor, elevate the city’s international profile and turn our city into a top destination for artists all over the world. He’s drawn headlines across the country for his bold campaign against domestic violence, Dallas Men Against Abuse. He has presided over the passage of $600 million in new city bonds to fund streets, flood protection and economic development initiatives and he has twice led the City Council through the hiring process for a new city manager and city attorney, including the search for City Manager A.C. Gonzalez’s successor.
During Mayor Rawlings’ time in office, Dallas has experienced impressive economic growth. Unemployment as of September 2016 had dropped to 4.2 percent. The City of Dallas property tax base in 2016 is $110.3 billion, which is higher than the previous peak in 2009 ($90.5 billion) and represents a 10.4 percent increase over 2015.
Mayor Rawlings was re-elected to a second four-year term in May 2015, beating his challenger in all but one of 14 City Council districts. He continues to put Dallas in the national spotlight, in part through his post as an executive committee member for the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
Rawlings and his wife, Micki, live in the Preston Hollow neighborhood of North Dallas. Their two children, Gunnar, an educator, and Michelle, an artist, also live in the city.
We are blessed to have Mayor Mike Rawlings participate in the 39th Annual DCLPB.

"I am sustained by the prayers of the people in this country. I guess an appropriate way to say this, it's one of the beautiful things about America and Americans from all walks of life is that they're willing to pray for the President and his family. And that's powerful. It's hard for me to describe to you what that means. It's--let me just say this: It's a leap of faith to understand."
--Excerpts from interview with George H.W. Bush with Diane Sawyer, December 16, 2003
Today we mourn and pay tribute to a true statesman, a man for others, a person of high integrity and morals and a man who knew the importance of prayer for our leaders and our country.
This is his Inaugural Prayer on January 20, 1989.
“Heavenly father, we bow our heads and thank you for your love.
Make us strong to do your work, willing to heed and hear your will and write on our heart these words: use power to help people.
For we are given power not to advance our own purposes, nor to make a great show in the world, nor a name.
There is, but one just use of power and it is to serve people.
Help us remember, Lord, Amen.”
President George H.W. Bush selflessly served our great country and now we mourn him. He may no longer be with us but he leaves his legacy and we are better because of him. Please join us in praying for him and his family.
Have you signed up for the 39th annual Dallas Christian Leadership Prayer Breakfast? It will be a morning to remember!
