This is Your Wake Up Call!

FROM THE BISHOP:

Dear 10th District Family,

“Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.” 3 John 1:2 (NLT)

Praise God from whom all blessing flow!
I rejoice that you serve the Lord in exceptional ways all across the state of Texas! Supervisor and I have served with you and watched you step outside your comfort zones
to initiate 10 th Future Inc., provide Gap Scholarships to Paul Quinn College students, theological scholarships to clergy, and gave through grants, hundreds of thousands of
dollars back to local congregations to fix, repair, build and do ministry.

You supported the AME Store which undergirded a Resource Fund that in the previous quadrennial helped to pay off mortgages and pay for church insurance. You dug deep to pledged and raised funds since 2016 to renovate the Richard Allen Chapel on the campus of Paul Quinn College. And so many more ways your honored the Lord with your service.

You are special to us just as you’re beloved by our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. As such, we want you to be in the best possible position to be safe and healthy.

An enemy has risen to threaten our way of life. It has disrupted our worship, work but not our witness. As Bishop Richard Allen called the church to respond in the 18th century in response to the Yellow Fever Epidemic where 5,000 persons perished, I’m calling you to respond to this pandemic in the 21 st century wisely.

This virus has interrupted where we worship but it cannot interrupt worship. It is altering where we pray but it cannot stop us from praying. It is changing how we care for one
another but it cannot stop our care. It rearranges how we express our love for each other but it cannot stop us from loving each other. It makes us alter how we give, but it cannot stop our giving.

I’m asking all churches in the 10th Episcopal District to not gather for face-to-face worship until Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020. Governor Greg Abbott exempted churches and
funerals from the gathering of 10 and under ordinance. Funerals should be kept small limited to immediate family and streamed to other mourners. Churches disinfected prior and after services, with all do precautions, must be 50 persons or under. I’d rather take drastic precautions now to minimize exposure of our members especially those most
vulnerable so we can get to some sense of new normalcy soon.

 We can still worship! Utilize digital means to worship on Sundays, have Bible Study and Prayer meeting. You can use Zoom, Google Hangout Meet, GoToMeeting or any other platform that works for you.

 You can stream services using your cell phone through Face Book Live. Or, use Free Conference Call to have worship and prayer. If there is a will there is a way!

 Use alternate means of giving! Use Givelify, cell text giving, PayPal, “Bill Pay” or other means of electronic giving. Members can mail-in tithes and offerings.
Send envelopes, stamped envelopes or giving envelopes to your members, for those who are not familiar with electronic giving. Even when the church is closed, there are still financial responsibilities.

 Make sure that only you and/or your designated Trustees or Steward check on church property regularly.

 Team your senior and retirees together in groups so that they can call, listen, encourage and pray with one another.

 Do you use guest cards or a guest registry? Reach out to visitors via phone or email. They will appreciate your concern and may come back to visit your church again!

 Remember: We still need to wash our hands, practice social distancing, no handshakes, hugs, cheek kissing or high fives whenever we are out in public.

Our 10th Future Inc. Annual Golf Tournament is still on. The Sam Houston Golf Course is open without facilities.
The May Convocation and Legacy Celebration is still scheduled for May 13 -16, 2020. If either event is not feasible for their original dates, they will be rescheduled for June, 2020.

I will be sharing recorded messages, prayers and meditations for your use.
