Mission: Loving ALL people into relationship with Jesus Christ

Please join us each night this week at 8:30pm for our short prayer stream to end the day! This week we have Mackenzie Johnson, Macie Liptoi, Randall G Lucas, DeDe Jones, Sheryl Sebo, and Kay Eck leading us!

Pastors Raegan and Scott: Important Announcement

See this video from Pastors Raegan and Scott informing our church of a new transition for their ministries.

Here is the note from Senior Pastor Stan Copeland that accompanied the video in an email sent today.

Dear Church Family,

Ten years ago, a young woman from Kansas came on our staff to work as an Assistant Student Ministry Director, her name, Raegan Welsh. Shortly there afterward, a young man was suggested by our Children’s Ministry Director who would be good as an Assistant Children’s Ministry Director, his name, Scott Gilliland. I spoke to the Student and Children’s Ministry teams about working closely together to coordinate their ministries, and the next thing I knew Raegan and Scott were engaged to be married. I didn’t really have working “that closely” in mind.

In our very midst at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church we have watched God work in the lives of the greatly-gifted Gillilands and call them not only together as a family, but into ordained ministry. We have seen their gifts develop into keen skills as pastors, preachers, and parents. We love them so much, and we have delighted in nurturing Andie Jane and Jude in the faith. They have been, and will always be, “family.”

The professional life God has called them to is that of United Methodist ordained elders, and therefore “itinerant.” As itinerant pastors, we are not members of local churches, rather, we are members of a United Methodist Conference and appointed to our posts by a Bishop. Bishop Michael McKee of the North Texas Conference, has appointed Raegan to be the Associate Pastor of Adult Discipleship at Christ UMC in Plano, and Scott has been appointed as the Senior Pastor of Arapaho UMC in Richardson. This of course, was not without consent and we have known for some time that this day would come. Personally, similar to the Gillilands, I served as an ordained Associate Pastor for ten years before my first appointment as a “Senior Pastor.” I had been at First United Methodist Church in Houston for seven years before serving in my first charge as Pastor of Pollard United Methodist Church in Tyler, Texas. I knew that I had to leave the “nest” of First UMC in Houston, but it was a bittersweet time when Tammy and I, with our two kids, left our beloved congregation. Five years later, I was the pastor of Lovers Lane UMC. The Gillilands are in that bittersweet time. It is full of excitement, even though tears will be close to the surface as they say “Farewell” to a congregation that has loved them and been so vital to their professional and personal development.

In my 37 years of ordained ministry, I have served with dozens of young United Methodist clergy, but none any more promising than Raegan and Scott. They are truly blessings to me and their colleagueship and friendship will be lifelong. Now, I, and we, are in a place of celebrating with Raegan and Scott in their new appointments. We will remember the blessed times we have had with them and continue to pray for them in their new settings with their new congregations. The Gillilands will always have a special place in our hearts and the mark they have made on ministry here at Lovers Lane, with Children and Student ministry, Thrive, Renew, pastoral care, and in so many other capacities, is truly remarkable. We should be very proud and prayerfully supportive of their new ministry ventures.

In the coming days, before they bid us farewell on Sunday, June 21st, we will find ways to celebrate their ministry, honor them with a farewell gift, and baptize little Jude. We will also be preparing the way for a new pastor and family to be coming to us, which is the way we United Methodists do things. All of these announcements and plans are coming soon.

God bless Raegan, Scott, Andie Jane, and Jude, you have touched us in the depths of our souls, and we will always have a place in our hearts for them, full of love and precious memories.

Grace and Peace,

Stanley R. Copeland

Pastor

“Nothing Else” -Cody Carnes

We got to hang out with Josh today (6 ft apart!) and he was kind enough to stay afterwards to record some new “Songs of Hope.” If you’ve never heard Josh sing, you’re in for a treat. Anything Josh sings is dripping with anointing and this song is no different.

Be encouraged, friends.

“I'm sorry when I've come with my agenda
I'm sorry when I forgot that You're enough
Take me back to where we started
I open up my heart to You”

We hope
