Last Sunday we began a new worship series entitled ”Everyday Holy.” For the next several Sundays, we will consider a typical day in our lives, from waking up to falling asleep (and everything in between).

We hope that by reflecting on our everyday patterns, we might see just how extraordinary, just how holy, our everyday lives are.

Can you guess the kitty’s 🐱 name (in the comment section)?

Guess what!?

Catie’s dog, Yumi, will be participating on this Sunday’s Blessing of the Pets service at 11 AM. 🐕

According to Catie, “Yumi is pretty aloof and tentative when meeting other people, but when she gets to know you, she is very loyal and ask you to follow her around. She’s currently training to do service work, both therapy and scent training.”

As Greg Miller, Facility Manager, prepares the space for this Sunday’s Blessing of the Pets service, he shares how his dog, Maggie, helped him through a difficult time.

“In 2010 I was in the middle of a two year battle with cancer that had spread throughout my chest and abdomen. While undergoing chemo and multiple surgeries I tried to stay as active as possible but everything was a struggle.

My youngest daughter, Julie, was a senior at the University of Oklahoma. One day she and her boyfriend (now husband) Rick, brought me the cutest Lab/Shepherd mix from a shelter in Norman, OK. Maggie was about 6 months old and full of energy! So getting up in the morning and taking her for long walks, along a golf course by our house, became the new norm interrupted only by more surgeries.

People would comment on how healthy I looked (minus hair!) and I attributed it to my walks with Maggie. She is 12 now and slowing down some but every day when I come home she scrunches up her face into a smile and greets me with a whole body tail wag! I’ve had lots of animals throughout my life including dogs, horses, cows and more, but Maggie and I have a special relationship.

I will be cancer-free for 10 years this October and I know Maggie, with a lot of prayers and a loving family, are the main reasons I am still here! It really adds meaning to the expression about rescue animals . . . Who rescued who!”

After a long year of planning, forty members of NorthPark Presbyterian Church embarked on an All Church Mission Trip in late June. The group ranged in age from six to eighty years old, and for many it was a life-changing experience. The team was divided into a construction group and community service group in order to serve the specific needs of the community.

It is truly a gift to serve and love our neighbors together as the NorthPark community of faith. Opportunities such as these allow for the application of Christian faith beyond the walls of our beautiful sanctuary, and create space for us to live into the mission of Jesus to a world in need.

The SoulFood Greenhouse just wrapped up it’s 4th season!

This year, we harvested over 18,400 lbs. of tomatoes that provided over 55,000 servings to those in need.

We distributed to 6 different food pantries across Dallas.

Also this year, we began partnering with Oak Cliff Veggie Project who distributes fresh produce to clients living in food desert areas of South Dallas.

A huge thanks goes out to Keri McCall and all the volunteers who make this mission a success, even through a pandemic.

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”

Our Story

NorthPark Presbyterian Church was organized in 1867 as the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. We were the first Presbyterian Church and the second house of worship built in Dallas. We have moved five times over the last one hundred and forty five years. However we have carried the stained glass windows in our current sanctuary with us and they date back to 1917.

As you enter the sanctuary, you will notice that the stained-glass window at the back of the sanctuary depicts Jesus Christ with open arms. This window was purposefully placed at the back of the sanctuary instead of the front to indicate Jesus’ invitation to not get too comfortable inside, but instead to go out into God’s world performing acts of justice and mission.

While we have a long history of excellent Christian education, music, and worship, God’s call to be involved in mission is pivotal to our identity. We support thirteen different social service agencies with time, talent, and money, house an Alzhiemer’s respite program, have regular missions events and trips including an adult mission trip to Kenya. One-tenth of our membership is originally from Africa and as a part of our Capital Campaign in 2010 we committed to building an eye clinic in Africa. We have also recently started several new mission initiatives in the Vickery Meadow area of Dallas including a homeless prevention program.

We hope that you find this to be a place of hospitality, grace, and inspiration in the time that you are here. We look forward to worshiping with you.

Grace and peace,
NorthPark Presbyterian Church
