NorthPark Presbyterian Church

Faithful find Community. Community creates Disciples. Disciples change the World. Member Presbyterian Church (USA).

NorthPark Presbyterian Church was organized in 1867 as the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. We were the first Presbyterian Church and the second house of worship built in Dallas. We have moved five times over the last one hundred and forty five years. However we have carried the stained glass windows in our current sanctuary with us and they date back to 1917. As you enter the sanctuary, you will notice that the stained-glass window at the back of the sanctuary depicts Jesus Christ with open arms. This window was purposefully placed at the back of the sanctuary instead of the front to indicate Jesus’ invitation to not get too comfortable inside, but instead to go out into God’s world performing acts of justice and mission. While we have a long history of excellent Christian education, music, and worship, God’s call to be involved in mission is pivotal to our identity. We support thirteen different social service agencies with time, talent, and money, house an Alzhiemer’s respite program, have regular missions events and trips including an adult mission trip to Kenya. One-tenth of our membership is originally from Africa and as a part of our Capital Campaign in 2010 we committed to building an eye clinic in Africa. We have also recently started several new mission initiatives in the Vickery Meadow area of Dallas including a homeless prevention program. We hope that you find this to be a place of hospitality, grace, and inspiration in the time that you are here. We look forward to worshiping with you. Grace and peace, Brent Barry Pastor, NorthPark Presbyterian Church

Mission: At NorthPark Presbyterian Church, we believe that we have been called together to praise and worship God, to learn from each other as we grow in our faith, and to support each other through the joys and tribulations of this life. We stand with open arms, welcoming all into this community of love and faith. Our congregation welcomes all those who wish to discover the love and support of a Christian community, while learning God's Word and growing in faith. Searching with mind and soul, we seek to understand Christ’s message of reconciliation. Through worship, Christian education and fellowship, we study God's Word and Christ's living example so that we may grow in our understanding of how to be reconciled in God's love. Compelled by God’s grace, we are sent out to proclaim by word and deed that we are Christ’s servants in the world. Members of NorthPark actively seek to spread God's word by reaching out into the community and beyond. Our mission outreach helps us provide living examples of how God works through us to bring others to Christ.

Paper For Water

Thank you all so much for your continued support even in these strange times. Because of your support we have been able to continue to reach schools and communities with desperately needed clean water and sanitation. Five new handwashing stations and latrines have been funded at schools. Due to COVID-19 we have decided to host our June folding party virtually. We hope you will be able to join us Saturday, June 6th, at 10am. The models we will be folding can be made out of almost any kind of paper, so you can simply use whatever paper you have. Check you home for colorful magazine pages, wrapping paper or even paper grocery bags and copy paper. However, if you would like to purchase some origami paper in advance, here is our Amazon store link. All purchases help benefit Paper for Water. We'll also have a special guest, Ekaterina Lukasheva, teaching one of her latest models. We really miss all of you and look forward to seeing you again in person. Thank you for staying involved with Paper for Water and for your support!

Please post your origami creations on social media and tag us: @paperforwater on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter! Consider giving what you make to a neighbor and sharing the Paper for Water mission with them.

A special thank you to our guest origami artist, Ekaterina Lukasheva kusudama.me. Please follow her on social media:

Tomorrow, Sunday, June 7, we celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper.

As Presbyterians, our Sacraments (communion and baptism) ordinarily take place among the gathered people of God. But just as we have been virtually present to one another in meaningful and real ways these past weeks, Jesus will be present with us at our tables in ways we can’t even imagine. The Spirit unites the church in every time and place, and the Spirit will unite our tables on Sunday.

Please bring with you to worship bread or crackers, juice or other fruit of the vine.

In case you missed the latest organ project update 😊.

Our organ project is well underway!
As you may recall, two digital pedal stops were installed with the original organ: a 32’ Soubasse and 32’ Bourdon. The digital extensions provided a cost savings when originally installed, and the electronics were ‘state of the art’ at that time, providing quality digital extensions on instruments where there were space or budget constraints. The digital stops were voiced to match the two existing 16’ ranks of the same names, comprising actual pipes.

Although slight project delays have resulted from the pandemic, we received some wonderful pictures of the new pipes from the Casavant factory and have been included in this short animated presentation. Please enjoy!

Stay well, friends!

“As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body.”
