Sir, now you are speaking power to truth. We need to support our own schools. That is the bedrock of what some call "social justice." We support that which we believe in. People do not support our schools because they do not believe in them. So the question: How can we shape people's belief system. Finally, Take a note from the Montgomery Bus Boycott. They took the money out of the Montgomery economic bus system.

HELPING LOCAL CHURCHES LOVE NEXT GENERATIONS WELL This spring, more than 30 Adventist church members, leaders, and innovators from across the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists convened at Fuller Youth Institute in Pasadena, California, to complete the Growing Young certified speaker training and participate in the Growing Young Adventists (#GYA) cohort summit. “The training has been an amazing opportunity to network with other leaders from across the NAD who are passionate about loving our young people better, it is a reminder that I am not alone in this effort,” observed Timothy Alan Floyd, Youth and Young Adult Ministries director for the Kansas-Nebraska Conference. “The insights gained throughout the training have inspired me to change the way I serve my youth and young adults and fueled a passion in me to constantly collaborate with my ministry peers. Growing Young has truly changed the way I approach ministry.” During the next several years, these trained point persons will encourage and equip Adventist communities who want to "grow young." --NAD NewsPoints

Adventists believe a Trinity of three persons--the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit--make up one God. They made salvation possible when Jesus, the Son, came to earth as a baby in Bethlehem and lived a sinless life in accordance with the Father's will. When Jesus was crucified for the sins of the people of the world and arose from the dead on the third day, victory was won for everyone. When He returned to heaven following the resurrection, Jesus left the Holy Spirit to serve as our Comforter and Counselor. He promised to return to earth a second time to complete His plan of salvation and take His people to heaven. Adventists are among the believers who look forward to that day. Adventists believe that God is concerned with the quality of human life, and that everything--the way we live, eat, speak, think, treat each other, and care for the world around us--is a part of His plan. Our families, our children, our jobs, our talents, our money, and our time are all important to Him.

This conference is one of five local conferences that make up the Southwestern Union. All races make up the membership, but the majority of the constituency is comprised of a Black population of the area which stands at 3,957,986. Statistics (June 2008): churches, 100; missions, 13; membership, 23,020; church schools, 9; teachers, 18.

Mission: The Southwest Region Conference exists to extend the transforming Ministry of Jesus Christ, by equipping and empowering our community for fellowship, evangelism, discipleship and healthy growth, through comprehensive civic involvement, demonstrative love for members of its territory, and manifested mercy for all.

General information

On December 16, 1946, the Negro constituency of the Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texico Conferences (the region of the Southwestern Union), were combined and organized into the Southwestern Mission, effective January 1, 1947. This was not the same as the Southwestern Union Mission for Negroes organized in 1910, with an executive committee composed of Union executive committee members and three Negro ministers. This new mission was a unit comparable to a conference, with its own officers, committee, and departmental secretaries, and headquarters at 3711 Oakland Avenue, Dallas, Texas. The first mission officers chosen by the constituency were: W.W. Fordham – President; V.L. Roberts – Secretary, Treasurer, Home Missionary Secretary; J.H. Jones – Publishing Secretary; and Helen Wiggans Beckett – Sabbath School Secretary. When the mission was organized, there were 27 churches, 1700 members, 17 workers, 4 schools, and an annual tithe of $70,773,59. At the end of two years as a mission, the membership was 1,939 with a total net worth of $35,824.85. By 1995, the annual tithe was approaching $60,000,000.
