[12/14/19]   Trustees Update:

General Update

Last Sunday, Don Moulton gave a general update on changes coming to the church. He had not quite finalized the work schedule at the time, so he could not be too specific. Now, the work has begun, and you will see progress on restoring the church. Here are some visual updates you will see:

· The Scout Hut is now totally gone. It will not be replaced.

· The entire roof will have to be replaced, so you may see blue tarps moving around on the roof as parts are taken off and then replaced.

· Windows in the Creative School area have started being replaced. This will be the focal area so that over the holidays the Creative School can move back to their classrooms and get Fire Marshal approval prior to start of classes again in early January.

· Don mentioned that work generally would start on the south end of the building and move north up the long hallway. You will notice that the ceiling in the south area is being replaced, walls have been stripped of all pictures and are being prepped for repainting.

· Some work has begun in the Parlor, but it is still off limits for tours.

· Some work has begun in the Sowing Center. This room will be repurposed to become a shared space. An additional new classroom for Creative School will use this space and be designed so that adults can also use it for meeting or classrooms.

· Please honor any area that is taped off or blocked from access. This is for everyone’s safety.

Please note that the space used by the Nutshell will be repurposed for use as a general meeting area by around the first of February. Please consider honoring those who have been responsible for this shopping venue by doing some Christmas shopping the next several weeks.

Even though there is construction under way on the south end of the building, the Harmony Class will continue to meet in the Chapel and Roundtable in the Sowing Center. We will try to minimize disruption as much as possible. We will let you know each week if there any classroom changes needed.

Thanks for everyone’s patience and understanding as we begin this process.

Respectfully submitted,
John Ozmun, Lay Leader Elect, Trustee

[12/06/19]   ** General Trustee Update **

The tornado has come and gone and left its mark on the church. But not for long. As a matter of fact, it may have been a blessing in disguise.

The Trustees have worked with contractors and insurance adjusters to assess the damage. That is nearing completion now, and you will begin to see some exciting changes as a result.

First priority will include replacing the entire roof, replacing all the regular glass windows (except those in the Atrium) with energy efficient windows, and replacing carpeting that was either damaged or covered in glass. But wait! There is more!

You will need to attend church on Sunday and hear from Don Moulton, Trustee Chair, on what the future holds for the church. He will speak during the Ministry Moment. Please plan on attending.

As the changes he will cover begin, I will resume my periodic updates so that everyone is aware of progress and can be prepared for how it might impact church activities.

Respectfully submitted,
John Ozmun
Lay Leader Elect, Trustee

North Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church

Right now, we are waiting for insurance crews to finish their job, so we’re not needing volunteers quite yet. BUT our neighbors do!! Join the North Texas Conference for tornado clean up!

Heads up!!! The clean up crew for the conference is changing meeting locations. Read the post below for more info...

Because of the amazing response of volunteers for tomorrow's tornado clean up, the meeting location has changed to accommodate parking. Instead of meeting at La Fundicion de Cristo/Christ's Foundry, teams should meet at David G BurnetElementary. The address for the school is 3200 Kinkaid Dr, Dallas, TX.

General WHUMC Update
We finally have power!! The Trustees have been hard at work making sure the heating/air system works and we will be comfortable for worship on Sunday.

We will have church on Sunday with a shortened service starting at 10:30. The sanctuary will be comfortable now that HVAC is working.

Please be welcoming to all in attendance as we may have a few visitors attending from nearby churches that were not as fortunate as we have been.

Remember that access to the Atrium will be limited. Please use only the Atrium doors facing the front parking lot and Playground doors facing the east parking lot. The entrance near the Nutshell will be locked.

Marsh Lane and Betty Jane should be open to all cars by Sunday.

Sunday School
All Sunday school classes (including Confirmation) on-site are canceled as some of the rooms have damage to them. If a class wants to have Sunday School at an alternative location that is okay. The Trustees will block access to classrooms past the restrooms. The Trustees ask that everyone respect the need to keep out of the "limited access" areas.

Church Activities Cancelled

Art and Spirituality (10/26)

North Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church

While insurance and our Trustees are doing an incredible job of cleaning up our church, there are many neighbors in our community that are not as fortunate.

Join our North Texas Conference tomorrow, 10/25, for a clean up day! Help us give back to our community. We’re all in need of a little love, restoration, and Christian hospitality.

Will you join us?!

Update: Because of the amazing response for tomorrow's tornado clean up, the meeting location has changed to accommodate the parking. Teams should meet at David G BurnetElementary. Located at 3200 Kinkaid Dr, Dallas, TX. #ntcumc #DallasTornado

To help our brothers and sisters with the aftermath of the storms, there will be a debris cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 26. Teams capable of removing downed limbs, trash, large furniture and hauling items away will meet at Christ’s Foundry to get assignments of their clean-up area. Representatives from Christ’s Foundry and the North Texas Conference will provide locations and instruction, but teams are asked to bring their own supplies (tools, trash bags, water, etc.) Teams will be equipped with translators to help communication needs. Click on the link to register your team.#DallasTornado

We *will* have worship this Sunday! May we gather together as a family to worship God through all of the emotions we've experienced this week. Even through chaos, hurt, and heartbreak, God is with us.

All Sunday School Classes on-site are cancelled.
UMYF will meet after church, off-site. Contact Caleb for more information.
