Dancing Under the Stars is TONIGHT at 7pm!!! Dance floor is being installed. Can't wait! BELONG!!

Our final session is in progress... Father Josh Whitfield explores the questions: What is the purpose of sacred music in an urban parish in a secular world? How does the cultivation of a truly sacred music, which itself is virtuous, participate in the creation of a community of virtue?

Session 6 of "High Above the Stars" is on right now! Dr. Kathryn Rombs asks if Saint Rita of Cascia a saint for our times.... How is her life relevant to our modern world? Dr. Rombs discusses Rita as mother, religious, and saint, and as a guide for families in our complicated and troubled world.

Session 5 of High Above the Stars: THE WAY OF BEAUTY: LITURGY, MUSIC, CULTURE

There is hardly a person who when he looks at God’s creation – the cosmos – isn’t full of awe and wonder at its beauty. For the ancient Greeks the assumption was that when we apprehend such beauty, we grasp its inner order, which can be described mathematically. They were so sure of this connection that the word cosmos meant simultaneously world, order and beauty. This idea was brought into Christian thinking by Fathers such as Augustine and Boethius and this numerical description of beauty became the principle that governed all of Christian culture. In this talk, David Clayton demonstrates how the cosmos, and the culture (especially art, music and architecture) are all connected by the same numerical patterns. And how all of them point to what Benedict XVI described as the ‘mind of the Creator’ and are reflected also in the patterns of sacred time as we live it in our worship in the sacred liturgy of the Church.

In Session 3: Very Reverend Fr. Michael DiGregorio answers the question, who is Saint Rita of Cascia?

In Session 2: An Epic Poem Comes to Life, composer Frank La Rocca and librettist Matthew Lickona discuss the creation of our ground-breaking commissioned work, A Rose in Winter: The Life of Saint Rita of Cascia.

Composer, librettist, conductor together for the first time. High Above the Stars.

Congratulations to our Fine Arts committee and our parish staff and facilities department - here we go!!!

[04/26/16]   ALFRED CALABRESE asks: "HOW MUCH DO YOU REALLY KNOW ABOUT SAINT RITA OF CASCIA?"

DO YOU KNOW what bees and roses have to do with her amazing life? Did you know that she was rejected three times by the Augustinian nuns, or that she suffered with the painful stigmata of Christ on her forehead? Do you know why she is called “peacemaker” and “saint of impossible causes?”

HER ENTIRE, incredible story will be told to you on SATURDAY, MAY 21st, when we hear the world premiere of “A Rose in Winter,” a musical composition written especially for all of us. This piece is for choir, large orchestra, and soloists. World-class singers from the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Santa Fe Opera, and other distinguished professional organizations will be here to perform in this concert. The best part is, admission to this concert is FREE.

Being part of the world premiere of anything is special enough, but THERE'S STILL MORE!!!

THURSDAY, MAY 19 is the beginning of a three-day conference called “High Above the Stars: Sainthood, Beauty, and Catholic Artistic Expression.” We will have distinguished speakers from around the country, including a priest who is the former director of the National Shrine of St. Rita in Philadelphia; a nationally acclaimed writer, artist, and teacher from California; one of the world’s greatest organists; professors from the University of Dallas; and our own Fr. Joshua Whitfield. You can even have the chance to meet the composer of our new musical piece, Frank La Rocca.

REGISTRATION for this conference is at an amazingly low cost for St. Rita parishioners, and is FREE to St. Rita Fine Arts donors. The price goes up AFTER MAY 1!

Go to www.saintritaconference.com to register. Don’t miss the chance to be part of one of Dallas’ major cultural events of the year, and an historical event in the life of our parish.

[09/17/15]   2015 - 2016 Season

Welcome to the 2015-2016 season of Saint Rita Fine Arts. This year, like never before, our focus is drawn to our patron saint, St. Rita of Cascia. She is an increasingly important saint for our times, - wife, mother, religious, and peacemaker, and the story of her life is dramatic. Two years ago we decided to do something unique, bold, and unprecedented to commemorate our beloved St. Rita. We commissioned an important Catholic composer to write a brand new work about her life, and to have the world premiere performance here in our church. Now, this work is finished, and in May we will present to the world, A ROSE IN WINTER, a major work for choir, orchestra, and soloists, by Frank La Rocca. Because this is such an important event in the world of music, we have created a conference for students, artists, and everyday Catholic people like all of us, focusing on sainthood, beauty, and spirituality. We invite everyone to take advantage of what is sure to generate interest across the country.

In addition to this groundbreaking event, our season also presents DFW’s finest chamber musicians; the cherished Memorial Concert; Cinderella, the Eighth Grade musical; the beautiful Spanish altars for Dia de los Muertos; the annual Lessons and Carols on Christmas Eve, and more! Our season would not be possible without the generous financial support of you, our patrons. Please help us continue to offer these high quality events for the spiritual and educational formation of our parish.
