Chabad South Carolina

Hello! A good friend of mine started the below program and I thought it was a cool concept for those remote workers looking to change up the scenery in an awesome environment in Israel :). More information below: Gather is a new program for digital nomads who want to work remotely from Israel, while experiencing the communal Kibbutz lifestyle. The month-long program brings together 25 digital nomads from around the world, to live and volunteer on a beautiful Kibbutz, while keeping their remote day-job. Gather provides everything participants need for a productive and inspiring Kibbutz experience – accommodation, shared office space, daily lunch and communal kitchen, access to Kibbutz facilities and beautiful nature, weekend excursions, yoga and meditation practice, volunteer opportunities and more. NEW DOCUMENTARY REVEALS A HIDDEN SHOAH STORY Dear friends, It’s an honor for me to be at the forefront of a story tradition that belongs uniquely to children of Holocaust survivors. Thank you for inviting me to tell you more: The Presence of Their Absence follows a son of survivors on a journey to trace his inherited trauma. Armed with only scant clues from his late parents, Fred Zaidman ventures into the unknown to tell his story for this first time. With helpers in Poland, Israel, Germany, and an unlikely source – a Baptist minister in Atlanta - Fred finds his roots in the ashes of the Shoah. Yad Vashem has called The Presence of Their Absence “a film for the ages”. We are delighted it has just come to Digital HD on iTunes and your other platforms: You may also access a DVD on our website: I hope you will view the film, send your thoughts, and share your personal stories on our website contact page. With gratitude, Donna Kanter and team

[03/20/20]   Message from all the Rabbis and Rebbetzins at Chabad of SC.

It was a difficult choice but one that needed to be made. After consulting with medical and rabbinical professionals, we have decided to follow the lead of the Atlanta, Charlotte, Charleston and Augusta communities and suspend services at Chabad Aleph House this Shabbat.

While our community has been spared the worst. We must continue to be vigilant in following all CDC recommendations, including social distancing and hand washing, and pray for this insidious plague to end quickly.

I have no clue why such things happen-and anybody that tells you they do, should be ignored-but I do believe that we are supposed learn and grow from everything that we see and experience.

One positive outcome thus far, has been the rediscovery of family. Even as we spend ever increasing time on our devices, we are now doing so together with our children, at the same table, in the same room.

In a great ironic twist, social distancing is causing family closeness.

As we prepare to spend our first collective Shabbat at home, let's seize this rare opportunity to celebrate Shabbat with our family as none of us have ever done before.

Turn off the television. Power down your cell phone and laptops, and let the quiet-unnerving at first-wash over you.
With your children by your side, light the Shabbat candles, and fill your home the peace of Shabbat.
Together, sing the kiddush, and sanctify your home with holiness and serenity.
Together, make the hamotzi, and enjoy a home-cooked meal with one another.
Together, read books, study the Torah portion, play board games, and go for walks.
Take a midday nap!
Rediscover your family. They're actually pretty nice :)

Wishing everybody a safe Shabbat Shalom,

All the Rabbis and Rebbetzins at Chabad of SC

[03/13/20]   “Question of the Week:
This coronavirus thing has really thrown me. I feel like I've lost all sense of certainty. No one knows what will happen next. How do we stay sane when we don't know what's lurking around the corner?

It is not that we have lost our sense of certainty. We have lost our illusion of certainty. We never had it to begin with. This could be majorly unsettling, or amazingly liberating.

This tiny virus of 125 nanometres* has sent the entire world into chaos. All of our plans are up in the air, markets are going crazy, entire countries shutting down, and we have no clue what the future holds.

But that is always the case. We never know what the future holds. We only think we do, and keep getting surprised when things don't pan out the way we expected. Now the mask is off. We have to admit our vulnerability.

What will happen next? We don't know. Our experts don't know. Our leaders don't know. Only G-d knows. And that is the point. Only G-d knows.

Close your eyes and feel the uncertainty, make peace with it, let yourself be taken by it. Embrace your cluelessness. Because in all the confusion there is one thing you know for sure. You are in G-d's hands.

Keep calm. Panic and fear are also contagious. Take every precaution as advised by health authorities. Wash your hands well. And every time you do, remember whose hands you are in.

Good Shabbos
By Rabbi Aaron Moss”
