[09/21/20]   But Judah approached him (Joseph) and said, “My lord, please let your servant speak personally to my lord. Do not be angry with your servant, for you are like Pharaoh.
Genesis 44:18

When we submit to those who are in authority over us, it is almost like submitting to God Himself. At work we submit to our employers (Colossians 3:23) and when we submit to civil leaders Romans 13 says we honor God because He established their authority. Joseph’s brothers did a lot of bad things when it came to their relationship with him, but one of the things they got right was submitting to him as if he was Pharaoh.

Submission for some of us is a difficult challenge at least as it relates to reverence and honor which is what pleases God. Judah (one of Joseph’s brothers) began to realize that God was doing something unique as it related to Joseph. So, Judah bowed in honor before Joseph because he recognized the authority of his position under Pharaoh’s leadership. He humbled himself because he knew Joseph could save his family from starvation.

Our verse is a lesson in humility. We are to honor those in authority because God is at work through them and we honor Him when we do so. We do not always have to agree with them, but we do need to honor them.

[09/18/20]   For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:8

Is there an area of your life that you would like to improve in (please say yes, so I am not the only one)? Now, take a moment and think about that… what area would you most like to grow in? With God’s help, you can improve things in your-own life that you have some control over. But what it really takes is the power of God working in your life, and and guess what…God’s Word has something to say about that!

Our verse today summarizes the verses just before it (3-7) that tell us the qualities that our faith working in unison with God ‘s power can produce in our lives. If we posses these qualities, we will be useful and fruitful for God’s glory!

Rest assured God will do His part, but He wants us to do our part by making an effort to improve that area of your life… why not start right now.

Have a great day…Pastor Freddy

[09/17/20]   But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Hebrews 5:14

The Bible uses the analogy of milk and solid food to describe the spiritual growth in the life of a Christian. Milk represents the basic teachings of Christianity about repentance, faith, baptism, spiritual gifts, the Resurrection, and eternal judgment.

The writer of Hebrews suggested to his readers that they had been Christians long enough that they should have matured/grown beyond these elementary teachings. But these believers were still living like babes in Christ, still feeding on milk instead of solid food. They were aging in years but still babes in Spiritual growth.

What is your spiritual diet? Are you nourishing yourself on the solid food of God’s Word each day or are you still drinking milk? Your spiritual growth depends on it.

Have a great day…Pastor Freddy

[09/16/20]   Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

Where do you go when the world seems to be crashing in on you? The Bible tells us we can go directly to the source...The throne of grace-Jesus Himself. All the other world religions tell people they can come through mediators or they can pray to some statue, etc. But Christianity says you can come to the living God, who is on His throne right this very minute-even as you are reading this devotion.

The Hebrew writer says we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, the Lord Jesus, who sympathizes with our weaknesses and struggles. We also have the freedom to come boldly to His throne anytime we want to, but especially when we are facing the raging storms of life. When we come to God in need, He surrounds us with His loving arms until the storm passes.

Jesus fully understands the sorrows and challenges we face here on earth. And He alone can give us the help we need.

[09/15/20]   How will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? This salvation had its beginning when it was spoken of by the Lord, and it was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
Hebrews 2:3

Sin separates us from God. Because of that, we have a great need to be reconciled to our great God. Fortunately, our great God loves us so much that He was willing to pay a great price by sending us a great Savior-His own Son Jesus Christ to be our redeemer.

Why is salvation great? Because our need is great, and our savior is great! The word “great” appears in Scripture hundreds of times. Often it refers to the blessings that are found through our personal relationship with Christ. Because of that, the Bible says we should rejoice greatly…regardless of what you are facing in your life today, you can rejoice in your great Savior!

Have a great day…Pastor Freddy

[09/14/20]   When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to his steward, “Take the men to my house. Slaughter an animal and prepare it, for they will eat with me at noon.” Genesis 43:16

Usually when we think of mercy, we think of it as not getting the punishment we deserve and when we think of grace of it is receiving a reward or blessing that we do not deserve. In Hebrews 4:16 we find both. When we approach God in prayer, we are freed from the judgment we deserve (mercy) and at the same time we receive help that we do not deserve (grace).
When Jacob’s sons went to Egypt, Joseph their brother showed them both grace and mercy. They did not know who Joseph was, so he could have punished them for what they did to him when he was younger. However, Joseph instead offered them mercy and grace. He gave them food to eat and then sent them back home with enough food to feed the whole family. They deserved none of these things, but Joseph showed them grace and mercy.
Each day, each week, each month we have opportunities to show both mercy and grace to other people. Find someone today/this week that you can show favor they don’t deserve…after all isn’t that what God does for us!

[09/11/20]   From Max Lucado:

Obedience leads to blessing. Disobedience leads to trouble! Remember Jesus’ parable about the two builders who each built a house? One built on cheap, easy-to-access-sand. The other built on costly, difficult-to-reach rock. The second construction project demanded more time and expense, but when the spring rains turned the creek into a gulley washer…guess which builder enjoyed a blessing and which experienced trouble?

According to Jesus, the wise builder is “whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them” (Matthew 7:24). The difference between the two was not knowledge and ignorance but obedience and disobedience. Security comes as we put God’s precepts into practice. We’re only as strong as our obedience.

[09/10/20]   When Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why do you keep looking at each other? 2 Listen,” he went on, “I have heard there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us so that we will live and not die.” Genesis 42:1-2

I am a type A-planner type person. While I can be spontaneous, my nature is to try to have a plan before moving forward. The History of my life as I reflect back over it sometimes tells a little different story. Sometimes the plan was for A to connect to B, but in reality, it ended up connecting with C. Sometimes we can plan for the unexpected, but sometimes it comes as a SURPRISE! It may even seem insignificant to us, but the end result sometimes causes a major impact on our life.
Our verse today tells us that there was a problem in Canaan. Remember God said that the promises He made to Abraham would be fulfilled through Jacob’s family. But some of Jacob’s sons had wondered away from God’s plan into immorality and sin. They even sold one of their brothers (Joseph) into slavery.

The future of God’s plan to bless the world was not looking to good. But a famine came over the land, forcing Jacob to send his sons to go to Egypt to buy grain. After arriving there, they were eventually reconciled with Joseph who invited the entire family to move to Egypt where he could take care of them. Over the next four hundred years, Jacob’s family grew into the nation that returned to Canaan, which was the “Promised Land” that fulfilled God’s promise to them.

God often uses events (in this case a famine) to accomplish His purposes. Be sensitive to the circumstances in your life; God may be on the verge of doing something you could have never imagined!

[09/09/20]   For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

God’s words are the same today as they were yesterday. His Word is eternal and life-changing as the Holy Spirit applies it into our lives. God’s Word is living, powerful, and sharp enough to penetrate to the deepest part of our inner being. His Word reveals the thoughts and intentions that come from the deepest part of our heart. When we read, study, and meditate upon the Word of God it allows the Holy Spirit opportunity to illuminate our hearts. The Word shows us who we are and most importantly who Jesus is. When we see the See the difference, it should humble us to the point we are willing to repent and be transformed into being more like Christ.

[09/04/20]   What then is Apollos? What is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, and each has the role the Lord has given. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 1 Corinthians 3:5-6

I have been more than open through the years of how much I despised farming when I was growing up. I think in part it was because my dad loved it and was so good at. And I so wanted to please him, but the reality was I did not enjoy it and worse yet, I was horrible at it! Who knew years later that God would use me to sow a different kind of seed (The Gospel), and that I would use lessons I learned from my dad as illustrations…only God can do that😊

When a seed is first planted, there is a season when you cannot see anything above the ground. Below the surface the seed is beginning to take root. Jesus describes in Matthew 13 there are different ways a person can respond to God’s Word. Many seeds are sown, but only some of the seeds actually take root and begin to grow. It takes time for a root to take hold even with continued watering and nurture.

The same is true when we share God’s Word with people. We (me included) like to see quick results and it is easy to become discouraged when we see little or no fruit. We may wonder if our efforts are effective. However, we must remember that all new life and growth comes from God. It is our responsibility to share, it is God’s responsibility to produce the fruit at harvest time.

If we are faithful to do our part, we can rest assured God will do His! Pastor Freddy

[09/03/20]   Lord, I believe; help my unbelief! Mark 9:24

Does your faith ever waiver? I know mine does sometimes. Our verse today “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” suggests that we are not alone in struggling with our faith. Many throughout Bible history have struggled just like us.

I heard a saying “Faith is not believing God can, but rather knowing that He will” I want to have that kind of faith all the time, but sometimes I fall short.

When our faith is weak, our confidence must remain in God’s ability to do as He has said. If you’re facing a challenge today, believe on God’s promises and ask for a faith that will not come up short.

Lord, I want to believe forgive me when I don’t…have a great day!

[09/02/20]   Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105

My experience in life is that change happens. Sometimes it is planned, but mostly it just happens. The transformation (change) of a caterpillar into a butterfly is truly a beautiful thing to behold. When a Christian seriously studies God’s Word, something incredible begins to happen. We begin to change into becoming more and more like Jesus. Now, that is transformation worth having!

We may wish our lives were just this constant steady flow of what we want and need, but as you well know our days are interrupted by the unexpected. Some of these unexpected changes can rock our world.

That is where God’s Word comes in. His Word offers guidance, wisdom, and hope. When we don’t read His Word, we miss out on the life changing transformation He offers. His Word reminds us that He is our protector, provider and that He is madly/crazy in love with us!

Through His Word He shows us the way to go and even creates new paths when needed. Satan does everything he can to keep us from meditating on God’s Truth because he knows when our life is changed, we have the power to help others change!

You and I are called to be light to a dark world, but we have to make sure our bulb is burning😊

Have a great day…Pastor Freddy
