In addition to any decisions by the president or the governor let us remember to respect the pastoral authority of the church in returning to public worship. Click on the picture to see the text of what President Trump said.
On the subject of the pandemic and getting back to public worship, I want to share two scriptures with you which will help us get into the mind of God. This is not His first rodeo! From Isaiah 66:1 “This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be”? From Exodus 15:26 “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you” Pastors Note: Let’s get back to church where the waters are sweet, where God is enthroned and where He inhabits the praises of His people.
Thank you for bringing Your Easter message to our Home.
Watching Easter service with my four-legged friends, Blue and Cran, on #NationalPetDay. Waiting for my skirt-wearin man to come home! He is Risen!
Thank you all SO much for leading us in worship and proclaiming the Word of God this morning! The livestream looked and sounded the best... no issues! Thanks, tech team!
The live stream message today by Pastor Kelly was inspiring and timely. Thank you Pastor Williams for your faithfulness.
Vanguard, have you seen the Emergency Response Relief Fund Grant application opportunity on the Pikes Peak Community Foundation website https://www.ppcf.org/ (click the nonprofit assistance button) - in case you're looking for ways to fund a relief response initiative. (I tried to send in Messenger but couldn't get it to work.)
Life as we know it will be forever changed as a result of the virus. Everyone is searching for answers. Where did this come from and why is it here and why now? I believe pandemics in the past were by permission but this one, this one is by design. If correct then God is either trying to tell us something, prepare us for something, chastising us or testing us. For believers, they turn to their pastor for answers. Everybody knows Pastors always have all the answers, right? I know a man who has been a pastor and teacher for over 63 years and while he usually has [an] answer he does not always have [the] answer. So what do you tell people when you can’t find the right words? First you keep it simple: From 1 Cor 2:1 “brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech” Secondly you keep it direct: From 1 Cor 2:2 “For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified” Third you keep it humble: From 1 Cor 2:3 “I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling” Forth you turn it over to God: From 1 Cor 2:4 “my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power” Lastly, rejoice in the outcome: From 1 Cor 2:5 “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God” And to Pastor Kelly M Williams I offer this admonition: You may not always understand the full meaning of the words the Spirit puts in your mouth but stay true to your calling and to your conviction: From 1 Cor 2:7 “speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory”
I feel the need and opportunity for Pastoral care is greater now than it has been for a very long time. My prayer this morning is for the pastors and elders; that their faith does not waiver in the face of these trials and that the strength of God will show through by the strength that God has given them to serve. This is the day that the Lord has made, give it to HIm to have authority over it in the name of Jesus.
Pastor Kelly Williams lesson on Sunday Feb 2, 2020 had some profound implications on how God works in the lives of His people as seen in the story of Joseph in Gen 39… There are many references in scripture of unique events that would be repeated (handed down) from generation to generation such as Mat 26:13 although the story of Joseph is not one of them this does not diminish the relevance of how God can make something good out of what seems hopeless. There was one of pastor Kelly's conclusions upon which I did starkly disagree however I will be first to admit I may be unlearned on that subject so I would suggest anyone reading this to go back to the Vanguard live stream video and view the lesson in its entirety. It’s worth a second look. In the meantime please continue to pray for your pastor and for the church you attend.

There are particular ways in which God wants us to go about worshipping Him. He wants our worship to come from our physical bodies, it requires physical and emotional engagement.

He wants it to be God-centered and God glorifying. Out of it flows goodness to us and to others through us.

This weekend at Vanguard we are continuing in our BECOMING WHOLLY GOD'S message series. As we talk about a subject entitled, THE INGREDIENTS FOR HOLY WORSHIP.

Welcome to Vanguard Kids! Join us for our third lesson in our series "Sinner...Saved...Sent." This week we are discussing the separation that happened in our relationship with God with sin.

Dear Vanguard Family Of Churches,

We have TWO weeks left in Vanguard’s 2020 fiscal year that ends on September 30th at midnight. We want to end this crazy fiscal year strong. We are asking you to join us in doing just that.

September is stewardship month at Vanguard. Find out here what that means and how to give to Vanguard: https://www.vanguardchurch.org/give/

Our stewardship seminar begins September 30th led by Pastor Jon and Sandi Elsberry. You can read more details and sign up here: https://govanguard.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/544349

We remind ourselves of three things during this time:
1) God owns everything.
2) We steward everything He owns.
3) God wants us to join Him in giving back to the mission He has entrusted to us.

Two weeks ago we saw 4 more people follow Christ in believer’s baptism. We have now seen 3280 people give their lives to Jesus and follow Him in believer’s baptism.

This month we are asking God to prompt someone to give $50k to Vanguard, see 10 new givers, and for each of us to give a gift above and beyond our regular giving for the month of September.

We had 2 new givers last weekend. Thank you Jesus. We are asking the Lord Jesus for 8 more!

2 Chronicles 31:12 “And they faithfully brought in the contributions, the tithes, and the dedicated things

Thank you in advance for your generosity and faithfulness to give to the mission of Vanguard.

This Friday, September 18th, Vanguard Central is partnering with Penrose Elementary school to host a drive-in movie night in the parking lot at 7:30pm. We will be showing a movie called “Playing With Fire.” For more info contact our Family Pastor, Aaron Williams, at: [email protected]

This weekend we are continuing in our “BECOMING WHOLLY GOD’S” message series. We will be looking at Leviticus 6:8-7:38 and talking about a subject entitled, “The Ingredients For Holy Worship.” Here are the message notes: http://bible.com/events/40477895.

September 12 & 13 Weekend Service Sign-Up - Vanguard Church

What do you do when you are ashamed of yourself because you have fallen short? You have a REAL relationship with God through Jesus, BUT you have let God down and you have let down someone in your community? You failed to live like a child of the king. This sin could be either something in your heart or mind, or it could be how you treated your wife or husband or best friend. When you fall short, the relationship is disrupted and restoration is required.

Dear Vanguard Family of Churches,

As we near the end of our fiscal year, I am asking the Lord to give us one $50k giver and ten new givers to help us end this year strong financially, so we can live out the mission and calling that God has place on our church for 2021.

During this pandemic we have seen an increase of 200 people being added to this distribution list and our church has grown in average weekly attendance by 23.4%. However, due to the hardships of Covid this year, we have seen a decrease in the number of givers overall and the average amount of gift per giver.

Like everything, this has been a year of contrast for all of us.

It has been a year of fear and opportunity for faith to grow and shine for Jesus glory!

If you call Vanguard your church home, I want to implore you to give over the next three weeks and help us end this fiscal year strong.

Our Elders and Pastoral Leadership Team are away this week praying for the church and dreaming about the future of what God wants and has for us to do for Him in 2021. We covet your prayers as we seek Him.

We are planning to relaunch Vanguard Briargate on Sunday, October 11th. This will be the FIRST weekend since the middle of March that all three of our locations have met on Sunday.

We are excited about this!

This weekend we continue in our new message series, “BECOMING WHOLLY GOD’S.” Here are the message notes for this weekend’s message:

Last weekend we celebrated four people following Christ in believer’s baptism. It was a glorious life giving time. We rejoice that Jesus name is being made more famous through our lives and the mission of Vanguard.

It would be easy in this season to fall back, cover ourselves, and hope that nothing else bad happens. But like Elisha in 2 Kings 6 “God is on the move!”

When the enemy was coming against Israel, Elisha told Israel…(2 Kings 6:16) “Don’t be afraid! For there are more on our side than on theirs.” 17 Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.

The army of God surrounds you and me.

What you fear is not greater than the God who surrounds you.

In 2 Kings 7 Elisha tells Israel, “By this time tomorrow…(God will change everything).”

Some didn’t believe.

2 Kings 7:6 says, “For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter of speeding chariots and the galloping of horses and the sounds of a great army approaching… 7 so they (the enemy) panicked and ran into the night…as they fled for their lives.”

If you and I won’t give into our fear, God Almighty will use that fear and turn it back on our enemy and cause him to flee.

Look at Israel’s response to the miracle…

2 Kings 7:9…this is a day of good news, and we aren’t sharing it with anyone! If we wait until morning some calamity will certainly fall upon us. Come on, let’s go back and tell the people…10 So they went back…and told the gatekeepers…11 Then the gatekeepers shouted the news to the people…”

GOD IS ON THE MOVE!

JOIN HIM!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Pastor
Kelly M. Williams

This month is stewardship month at Vanguard. I want to remind you of our three stewardship principles: 1) God owns everything 2) God wants us to steward what He gives us 3) He wants us to join him in using our resources to advance His mission for us as a church.

September is also the final month in our fiscal year. At present, we are $62k behind after 48 weeks compared to a year ago in actual giving. That is roughly $1300 a week. Vanguard needs your help to close this gap and finish the fiscal year strong.

We realize in asking you to make a sacrifice, that Vanguard may not be the only one that has been negatively impacted by the pandemic. If you have the means to help Vanguard, please do so in September.

If you do not tithe to Vanguard, I am asking you to take the money back guarantee and tithe for the month of September. If you regret it, after the fact, let me know, and I will get you every penny you give to Vanguard in September back to you.

If you do tithe to Vanguard, I am asking you to take the challenge and give a gift above and beyond your regular giving. Many of us will be doubling our tithe for September.

Thank you in advance for your generosity. After 23 years, it is still humbling and encouraging for me to see God’s people respond to God’s promptings.

Regardless of what you give, I encourage you to pray, ask the Lord what He would have you give, and do just that. It may require some faith on your part. I will be praying that God will give you the grace to give what He asks you to give.

1 Chronicles 29:9 Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the LORD. David the king also rejoiced greatly.

If you would like to be a part of our stewardship class led by Jon and Sandi Elsberry, you can get your questions answered and sign up for the class by emailing [email protected].

This weekend FOUR people will be following Christ in believer’s baptism. Nothing grows my faith like hearing the testimonies of people whose lives have been changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I hope you get to be a part of this encouraging time of the service. And YES, we will be sharing this portion of the service online.

In closing let me encourage you to check out vanguardchurch.org for details on next steps, bible study opportunities with Men’s and Women’s ministry, and getting signed up for the men’s retreat this month. We are hoping to share some exciting news with you about Vanguard Briargate next week.

Thank you for stewarding the mission of Vanguard Church with your life.

What we do for God matters, and in the end it is ALL that matters.

I ask the Lord on our behalf, “Lord, please look upon us with favor and bless us for what we have done for you these past twenty-three years, in Jesus name. Amen” (Nehemiah prayer)

See you this weekend in person or online.

Much Love,
Pastor Kelly M. Williams

Good heart soil in a pandemic

Grateful for the Christian Post sharing Vanguard’s message topic this past weekend. Pray it may be an encouragement to you.

Christians in America have been leaving the church in record numbers for the past thirty-years in the United States.

Every one of us have covid fatigue to go with our ministry fatigue. Recently I went on a break to replenish and get ready for another season of ministry. One thing I like to do is work in my yard and watch my grass grow.

Seems like an easy task right?

Check out the article for the rest of it...
