UCCS Chi Alpha

GATHERING: Thursday | 7:30 | Friendship Assembly https://linktr.ee/UCCSchialpha

Mission: To make disciples who make disciples: transforming the university, the marketplace, and the world.

Operating as usual

Our Collegiate Jesus Fast starts TOMORROW !! Who is joining us?!

Now ... what does it truly mean to fast?

Biblical fasting is a choice to abstain from food for spiritual purposes. With this, spiritual motivation convinces us to intentionally go hungry so our “hunger” for God may increase in its place!! It is at this point that we decide to deny ourselves to make God bigger in our lives!

While we ourselves have the freedom to fast from whatever we wish ((social media, a favorite coffee shop, netflix, etc.)), almost all examples of fasting in the Bible are centered around fasting either food or drink. For example, in Psalm 23, the Bible says that, “David humbled himself, asking God to intervene because of injustice”. Then in Samuel 12, it is explained how He then fasted for healing and miraculous intervention. This is just one of the many prime examples of fasting found in the Bible.

SO WHO WANTS TO FAST WITH US?! comment below what you are fasting!!

We can not wait to go through this journey together! :)

Tressa invites you to join Chi Alpha in a 40-day fast beginning this Sunday and ending on the Collegiate Day of Prayer on February 27. This is something we do every year and many of you look forward to this, so we are so excited to begin collectively seeking God together in this way.

For the next several days, we will share about what a fast is, why we are fasting during this time, and stories from students who fasted last year. We hope you prayerfully consider joining us.

Hey guys, we hope you are having an AMAZING winter break! What steps have you taken this break to draw closer to Jesus?!

We all miss you so much and can’t wait to meet up again !! As of right now, our first large group of the new semester is to be held on the 21ST OF JANUARY!! With this, we plan to have a hybrid service of in-person at Friendship Assembly ((along with covid restrictions)) as well as an option to join online on Facebook Live! Be sure to mark your calendars! :)

"22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23

Who is grateful for God's daily mercy? ✋🏼✋🏾

We have a unique time during break to draw nearer to God. It can also become even more difficult. We find ourselves in old habits, potentially exposed to people who draw us away from God, and honestly, who doesn't felt that winter break laziness? No matter where you find yourself, His mercies are new. Today is a great day to pursue Him with your whole heart. Take a look at the link in our bio for a tool to help you analyze where you're at in your walk with God. Share this with a friend or your small group leader.

Breaks can be an opportunity for tremendous growth or potential disaster. In order to actualize the former, it is in our best interest to finish break armed and prepared for the semester ahead. Let's go!

It has been one heck of a year, but we thank Jesus for coming to us once and for all of time. How undeserving we are.

We have incredible student leaders in Chi Alpha. They give sacrificially of their time, their resources, and their lives in service of the Kingdom of God- it is a beautiful thing to see students living out the words of Jesus to make disciples who make disciples.

Chi Alpha Gathering

Join us tonight for our LAST in-person Gathering of the semester. Due to the increase in cases, we will be moving all small and large group gatherings online for the time being. We will have more information coming your way.

7:30pm Friendship Assembly (address in bio)

If you are unable to join us, we will be streaming our service on our page. The link to join is in the bio. Our Facebook live begins at 7:45 p.m.

Do you know what the best part of Thursday is? Coming together to worship God and encourage one another! Gathering starts at 7:30pm, but you can join us early at 7pm for pre-service prayer.

Our devotion calls us to propel above the worries and anxieties of the world, knowing that the Lord provides and cares for us day in and day out.

Check out the Habit Study in the link in our bio to guide you as you seek Jesus during this time and throughout this week as you answer the question, "how do I get to Jesus?"

It's Wednesday again, and you know what that means, PRAYER. Send us your requests and let us know how we can be praying for you today.

You can also join us on ZOOM Monday through Wednesday and Friday for Upper Zoom Prayer. The passcode is 626413 and the link is in the bio.

These days are heavy; this last year has been heavy. The political climate is heartbreaking, the social climate is chaos, and in the midst of it all, our friends and those we care about are hurting and struggling and coping the best way they know how. As disciples of Jesus, we are certain that the answers and comfort people are searching for in this broken world can be found in Christ, but there is also a very real enemy that wants to keep them from that. With that in mind, let's do battle for our friends and family through prayer today and throughout this week.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Tonight we begin Upper Zoom Prayer at 9pm. Upper Zoom will take place Monday through Wednesday AND Friday Night as we take time to seek God for one another and for our campus. The link is in the bio and the passcode is 626413.

Worshiping God and praying with you all last night was life giving. We wanted to give you just a quick reminder about a few things we announced last night.

We begin our corporate fast today, but you can join us at any time by chosing to fast whatever you would like.

Upper Zoom Prayer will be Mon. - Fri. at 9pm (link in the bio). See you there tonight at 9pm!!

And finally we felt as though God was calling us corporately and individually to answer the question, what are we doing to get to jesus? Today? This week? Moment by moment?

We love pursuing God with this community.

Worship and Prayer Night

The Holy Spirit is calling us deeper individually and as a group. We are excited to kick things off at our Worship and Prayer Night Tonight.

If you need a ride, send a DM.

Note: In response to increased cases and new Covid restrictions, we are further increasing our precautions for Thursday Gathering.

"Behold, I am doing a new thing."

Chi Alpha firmly believes we serve a God who loves and speaks to His children. We are sensing God is calling us individually and as a group to something new. Join us Thursday for worship and prayer as we seek the heart of God and kickstart some of those new things we believe God is wanting to do in and among us.

7:30 p.m. at Friendship Assembly. Worship will be led by a new church plant in the springs called Zeal Church.

Our guest speakers, Mike & Sonja are jungle missionaries in the Amazon. They use Biblical storytelling to disciple tribal nations and they are elated to cast vision for missions and share their story with us tonight at Gathering.

7:30p.m. at Friendship Assembly or live on our FB Page (link is in the bio).

One of our anchors in Chi Alpha is responsibility because we believe that when you have encountered Jesus, it then becomes your responsibility (and joy) as a follower of Christ to share what God has done in you with those around you.

This week is missions week! We will have guest speakers at Gathering sharing their work in Peru and we will also be announcing our Spring (covid-friendly) missions opportunities. Missions may look different this year, but we are still called, in every way, to GO.

How are you "GOing" into the world around you?

"A cup can only spill what it contains."

What are you choosing to fill yourself up with this week?

Whatever we fill up with will eventually come out especially when met with pressures. Are you filling up with things that reflect God's character? This week let's choose to use our time to grow our character in ways that make us look more like Jesus.

"A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart." LUKE 6:45

Happy Sunday, Family.
