[02/05/21]   Does the thought of teaching your pre-teen writing and grammar skills seem like a daunting task?

Classical Conversations can help!

For years, Classical Conversations has been equipping parents and students with the tools to become more competent writers.

The Essentials writing program, which is
for students ages 9 and up, uses the Essentials of the English Language curriculum to guide parents and students through the grammar portion of the classes. In addition, it incorporates the curriculum from the Institute for Excellence in Writing to teach effective writing skills. These tools will be presented to provide parents the confidence to teach their budding writers.

We are available to answer any questions you may have.

Are you curious about teaching your children at home?

Classical Conversations has several solutions for families curriculums that will fit their needs.

Our Foundations program is for families with students in grades K-6.

Once a week, families meet to preview and review weekly memory work in science, math, latin, geography, grammar, and history. Students also learn to develop their public speaking skills as they prepare and deliver weekly class presentations to their peers. Hands on projects in fine arts and science will round out this very full curriculum.

If you are interested in joining us on our home education journey, reach out to us!

January is a very special month for many Classical Conversations communities.

Over the course of 10 weeks, Challenge A students (ages 12+) have the opportunity to put together a Science Fair project and present it before a panel of judges and to their respective community. This Science Fair event allows family and friends to see the excellent progress which their students have made in their research and presentation skills.

We are so proud of our Challenge A students!

Do you have a child going into 7th grade next year?
Connect with one of our local homeschooling parents to help you decide if Classical Conversations is a match for your family.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Homeschool teens get their day in court with mock trial

In Challenge B, the pace picks up as students hone in on their previously acquired skills in order to advance into more capacity-building academics. Highlights of Challenge B are the Mock Trial, which is performed before a judge, and the anthology of short stories that the students write and illustrate at the end of the year.

In 2018, an article appeared in the paper featuring our very own Challenge B students. Take a look!

Challenge A | Classical Conversations

Does your 7th grader LOVE to ask questions?
Or maybe your pre-teen likes to debate or "argue"?

Classical Conversations utilizes the Classical, Christian model to work with a student's inquisitive nature during this stage known as the Dialectic stage.

During the Dialectic stage, asking questions and making connections between ideas is not only normal, but to be encouraged!

In their weekly meetings in Challenge A, students, who are 12 years old and up, begin to use the tools that, with diligence, patience, and practice, will become lifelong skills in cultivating wisdom and virtue.

Throughout the Challenge years, junior high and high school students will engage in meaningful, deep discussions at home with their parents and then again in their weekly, community meetings with their peers.

Feasting on a robust curriculum, which is replete with great literature and designed to help students to learn how to think (not what to think), students will wrestle with big questions and learn the skills of effective communication and logical argumentation.

A Christian, Classical Education?

Learn what other local, Christian families have discovered in their homeschooling journey.

Classical Conversations offers tremendous support to parents by offering not only a ROBUST curriculum, which is centered on a Christian worldview, but also training and support throughout the year.

Find out how Classical Conversations in Charleston can help you!

classicalconversations.com Share the love of learning through a Christian worldview and fellowship with other families. Our families thrive using three keys to a great education: Classical, Christian, and Community.

Our Story

What if your child’s school was amazing?

What if your child received an education tailored to his or her learning style, speed, and interests.

It can be. Classical Conversations of Charleston, Illinois is a home-centered, classical Christian home education program that equips you to teach your child through resources and community support.

Parents teach their K4-12th graders at home, then join with a weekly community of like-minded families and peers who are studying the same materials.

Every week, pre-K through 6th grade students participate in art projects, science experiments, and public speaking presentations in addition to learning geography, math, science, Latin, English grammar, a timeline of world events, and history facts. This is called our Foundations Program as it provides a solid foundation for higher education. Foundations meets in the morning. The teaching parent participates in the classroom so that he or she is equipped to continue teaching at home.

4th - 6th grade children attend an English Grammar and Writing Program in the afternoons. Children gain English grammar and writing skills in a very interactive classroom setting. The teaching parent participates in the classroom so that he or she is trained to continue the lessons at home.

Our Junior High and Senior High aged students participate in the Challenge Program. This is a drop off program. Students attend class all day once per week wherein they practice public speaking, leading discussions, and have wonderful conversations in a variety of areas such as mathematics, literature, Latin, English Grammar, Geography, Science, Logic, current events, and so much more. Class time is very conversational between students as facilitated by the class instructor. It's also a time for the instructor to prepare the students for home study. Instructors communicate with the parents giving support for how to guide their children at home.

Classes are enrolling now. Limited spots available.

You may wonder....Me? Homeschool?
You taught your children to walk, to talk, and yes, you can homeschool them. At Classical Conversations, we believe parents can be the very best teachers to tailor their children’s education. While the idea of homeschooling can be overwhelming, the tools and equipping provided by Classical Conversations support you as you educate your child.

You can homeschool. We can help. Visit www.classicalconversations.com for more information.
