Wesley United Methodist Church

Dear Wesley family,

This afternoon your Wesley staff and a few key lay leaders met to pray and converse about how we can most faithfully do our part to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Together we determined that worship services and ALL church activities--committee meetings, small groups, choirs, etc.--will be suspended up to and including Sunday, April 5. Should we determine that the suspension of worship and activities can end sooner, or that it should extend past April 5, you will be informed.

Church office hours will be 1:00-4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday during this time, effective immediately. Staff members will continue to work either remotely or in the building and will be available by email or, for those who typically do so, by cell phone.

For Sundays March 22 and 29 and April 5, a worship service will be recorded during the week and will be posted to our website (www.charlestonwesley.org) by Sunday morning. The link will also be shared via our page. The services will remain posted on the website as usual, so please make use of them on Sunday morning or any time thereafter, and share this information with friends who might want to watch them as well.

Your Wesley staff will be working to provide a weekly written communication that will be shared via email and Facebook, and for those who do not use online communication, via U.S. Mail.

We also are working on ways to be in touch with members of Wesley by telephone and through other creative means. Please stay tuned for more information about how that will work and how you can help. And please check on folks who may need something you can offer them.

Pastor Janice and I remain fully available to meet pastoral needs. Please let us know when and how we can serve you or your loved ones.

Also, please know that the church's financial obligations continue during these unprecedented circumstances. Your continued giving will be of great importance. You may use the online giving option on our website, mail your offering to the church, or bring it by in person. Outside of office hours, you may slide it underneath the door of the main office.

Our goal is to be proactive in slowing the spread of the coronavirus. We believe the decisions we are making now will lessen the negative impact of the virus in the long term. We are in an uneasy but temporary time. Yet even in this time we remain the body of Christ, the church, even if we are unable to meet together in the usual ways. Through our prayers and faithful efforts, we will continue to do no harm, do all the good we can, and stay in love with God.

Blessings and peace,
Rev. Tom Corum
Directing Pastor

Wesley United Methodist Church

Knowing there is now a confirmed case of COVID-19 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, and in an effort to do our part to slow the spreading of the coronavirus, all activities at Wesley United Methodist Church are cancelled for Sunday, March 15. We will continue to follow closely all news and information, as well as to consider the safety and wellbeing of Wesley members and others who gather in our building, in making decisions in the days ahead. We will keep you informed. Please consider contacting others who may not use online communications and share this update with them. Also, please consider checking in with folks who may be particularly isolated at the present time. Be safe and well.
