[05/03/21]   Verse for the day: In peace I will lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me rest secure. Psalm 4:8

[05/02/21]   John 15:1-8
15:1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower.

15:2 He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit.

15:3 You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you.

15:4 Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me.

15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.

15:6 Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.

15:7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

15:8 My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.

[04/30/21]   Psalm 22:25-31
22:25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will pay before those who fear him.

22:26 The poor shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the LORD. May your hearts live forever!

22:27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the LORD; and all the families of the nations shall worship before him.

22:28 For dominion belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations.

22:29 To him, indeed, shall all who sleep in the earth bow down; before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, and I shall live for him.

22:30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord,

22:31 and proclaim his deliverance to a people yet unborn, saying that he has done it.

[04/29/21]   Prayer for the day: Holy God, help me to be aware of your presence and promptings in all that I do and experience today, so that I might live as a follower of Christ in every moment. Through the Risen Christ I pray. Amen.

[04/29/21]   Verse for the day: Are you thirsty for grace? Are you hungry for mercy? God is calling;come to the waters. Isaiah 55:1

[04/27/21]   Prayer for the day: Help me O God, to focus and place this moment and this day in your hands so that my own sense of worry is experienced within your Holy Presence and is calmed by your peace. Amen.

[04/27/21]   Verse for the day: Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today. Matthew 6:34.

[04/26/21]   Prayer for the day: Holy God, help me to embrace this ancient promise so that I can experience a grace-filled life. Through my risen Lord I pray. Amen.

[04/26/21]   Verse for the day: For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Jeremiah 29:11

[04/25/21]   John 20:19-31
20:19 When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."

20:20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

20:21 Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you."

20:22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.

20:23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."

20:24 But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.

20:25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe."

20:26 A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."

20:27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe."

20:28 Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!"

20:29 Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe."

20:30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book.

20:31 But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

[04/24/21]   1 John 3:16-24
3:16 We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us--and we ought to lay down our lives for one another.

3:17 How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?

3:18 Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.

3:19 And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts before him

3:20 whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

3:21 Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God;

3:22 and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him.

3:23 And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.

3:24 All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us.

[04/24/21]   Prayer of confession for this Sunday: Gracious God, we confess before you the slowness to embrace the new life you offer. We choose to remain indifferent, self-doubting and in despair rather than living as people who embrace the healing power of the Resurrection. Forgive us, and renew a right spirit within us. Help us to live as followers of the Risen Christ. Amen.

[04/24/21]   Hymn for this coming Sunday: #122 Thine is the Glory

[04/24/21]   Psalm 23
23:1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.

23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;

23:3 he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name's sake.

23:4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff-- they comfort me.

23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long.

[04/22/21]   Prayer for the day: Thank you, Creator God, for the wonder of the land, animals, plants and people around me. Help me to be committed to nurturing the creation. Reveal to me and forgive any actions that create pollution of any kind. Help me to repent and make changes so that I can live as a faithful steward of your creation. Through the Risen Christ I pray. Amen.

[04/22/21]   Verse for the day: The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it, the world and those who live in it. Psalm 24:1

[04/21/21]   Prayer for the day: God, you sent the Holy Spirit to disturb us, to empower us, to challenge and comfort us. Our spirits are disturbed as we seek to make a difference, to change huge

[04/21/21]   Verse for the day: But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like one day.The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all come to repentance. 2 Peter 3: 7-8

[04/20/21]   Holy God, you alone can deliver justice that is everlasting in nature. You alone can teach us what justice looks like in daily life. You alone can create in us the spirit of just actions and attitudes. Help us to remember these things as our country continues to work towards justice for all people.

As news of the verdict of the trial in Minneapolis continues to spread through our country, may all assemblies be ones of solemnity in the memory of a life lost. May all assemblies be ones of respect for a family that asks for peaceful protests. May all assemblies be ones of prayers for the continuing changes that are needed so that justice, equality, and safety for black people in our country will become a reality. Bless us O God, with a sense of being one human family that is tenderly loved and fiercely defended by you. May we understand more fully the depth of change that faith in the power of the resurrected Christ can bring. Amen.

[04/20/21]   Prayer for the day: Holy God, I have only glimpses of what it means to imitate you. Therefore, I seek to be as loving as you can make me. Create within me, O Lord, the space to love other people so that I can truly know myself and revel in my relationship with you. Through Christ, my redeemer and risen Lord and Savior, I pray. Amen.

[04/20/21]   Verse for the day: Be imitators of God, as beloved children. Ephesians 5:1

[04/19/21]   Prayer for the day: Search me, O God, and reveal any thoughts or ways within me that are not loving. Help me to understand myself more clearly so that I may turn from such ways and become the person you created. Through my redeemer, the risen Christ, I pray. Amen.

[04/19/21]   Verse for the day: God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. I John 4:14b,

[04/18/21]   Psalm 148
Praise for God’s Universal Glory
1 Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
praise him in the heights!
2 Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his host!

3 Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars!
4 Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens!

5 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he commanded and they were created.
6 He established them forever and ever;
he fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.[a]

7 Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea monsters and all deeps,
8 fire and hail, snow and frost,
stormy wind fulfilling his command!

9 Mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars!
10 Wild animals and all cattle,
creeping things and flying birds!

11 Kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all rulers of the earth!
12 Young men and women alike,
old and young together!

13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his glory is above earth and heaven.
14 He has raised up a horn for his people,
praise for all his faithful,
for the people of Israel who are close to him.
Praise the Lord!
